intern Diaries
Hear what RP students have to say about the wonderful internship opportunities they’ve been offered!
Natalie Ann Fernandez Diploma in Mass Communication School of Management and Communication Year 3
Intern at Elle Magazine, Singapore I had the chance of experiencing first-hand what working in the media industry was like. I was extremely lucky to meet such a supportive team of colleagues who guided me to discover my potential by giving me opportunities, encouraging me when I did well, and sharing with me what I could have done better.
"This internship has helped me to prepare for my future."
Covering stories allowed me to go out for press launches, interviews and meet new people which was very exciting. With this eye-opening internship, I had the opportunity to interview celebrities such as celebrity chef Rachel Khoo, and my personal favourite: Isaac Wright (who plays Bran Stark on Game of Thrones).
Intern at DigiPen Institution, Seattle
I'm grateful to be an STA student because of the relevance of what I've been taught in my diploma programme. This is because I've been able to apply what I've learned in class into my internship.
Intern at Kisarazu NIT, Japan My internship with Kisarazu NIT Japan was a unique one! I managed to experience the everyday life of a Japanese student in the dormitory as well as working alongside my professor in the laboratory.
TRANSFORM 22
Jeanne Gabrielle Jimenez Strachan Diploma in Game Design School of Technology for the Arts Year 3
DigiPen Institution was a nice place; it was well-equipped with facilities, conducive spaces for everyone, and the hallways were adorned with all kinds of displays like projects and art works that the graduates of the school had done. Our classmates and professors were incredibly approachable and our day-today experiences are always exciting!
Liew Seng Heng Francis Diploma in Mobile Software Development School of Infocomm Year 3
My responsibilities as a bioinformatician included coding programmes to analyse anti-coagulation proteins, in seeking to discover better medication. As my professor was fairly busy, I had to independently resolve obstacles I met along the way. I'm grateful that SOI has taught me to be more resourceful which has equipped me with the right skills to resolve issues easily.
"If I were to describe my experiences in DigiPen in one word, it would be 'adventure'!"
"I never really knew what each day had in store for me, as I was always pleasantly surprised and challenged out of my comfort zone."
What's more, I got to experience celebrations and festivities such as Labour Day, Halloween, Black Friday Sales, and loads more during my internship. So, I’d say overall my overseas internship in DigiPen was a great adventure and I will never trade that experience for anything else.
Swathi D/O Ramesh Diploma in Wellness, Lifestyle and Spa Management School of Hospitality Year 3
Intern at Banyan Tree Spa My internship with Banyan Tree Spa was an eye-opener. I experienced what it was like to work in the service industry as a full-time staff. It was definitely rewarding as I learned a lot during my internship.
"This internship gave me real-life experience of coaching children!"
My job scope was mainly to offer assistance and consultation to customers. I hope to learn as much as I can and would like to work in other Banyan Tree Spa outlets around the world!
Phua Yun Ru, Iris Diploma in Sports Coaching School of Sports, Health and Leisure Year 3
Chew Wei Zhong, Gabriel Diploma in Marine Science and Aquaculture School of Applied Science Year 3
Intern at Happy Fish Happy Fish gave me the chance to observe and teach students, and learn the administrative operations of the company. I am glad that I was able to apply the coaching skills I've acquired from my course into my internship. It has been a fruitful learning journey as the staff and management were very generous in sharing their knowledge and experience with me.
This internship was unique because other than working with marine mammals, I also learned about various aspects of the job."
Intern at RWS Dolphin Island
"I believe that my internship was a stepping stone for me to get a taste of the wellness industry."
Kerwin Tan Jun Xiong Diploma in Industrial and Operations Management School of Engineering Year 3
Intern at Phee Group, Myanmar My internship with Phee Group was an eye-opener as I learned to be an independent person and also picked up various life-skills. My job needed me to analyse the current processes the company has and to provide solutions to improve them. I also had daily sharing sessions with my colleagues to discuss my findings. From what I have learned through RP's Problembased Learning (PBL), I was able to apply my skills to this internship and helped Phee Group to solve certain issues that they were facing.
During my internship with RWS Dolphin Island, I got to work up close and personal with the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins! This internship helped me in understanding what it's like working in an environment where animals are involved. I’m thankful to be an RP student because the modules and programmes prepare us well for the working world!
"My career aspiration is to be an entrepreneur. Thanks to this internship, I’ve learned a lot about essential processes and skills needed to develop my business in future!"
