Waterford Institute of Technology has a proven record of research ac- Total Research Funding tivity and considerable experience of translating this into benefits for Awards 2003 -2013 society and the economy. Over the last 10 years, WIT has attracted over €130m in competitive research funding, from both national and European funding programmes. During the academic year 2012-2013 WIT was successful in securing in excess of €17.3m, a 48% increase on the €8.9m in the previous year. One of the key highlights of 2012 was the introduction of the WIT PhD Scholarship Programme, whereby the Institute funded 15 PhD students across all disciplines. The Institute has created a research and innovation ecosystem bringing together researchers, students, entrepreneurs and established companies focussed on ensuring that our research activities are internationally benchmarked, strategic and economically relevant. The WIT Research & Knowledge Transfer Strategy 2012 – 2015 aims to maintain this momentum by focusing on the following five key objectives:
Support and Develop High Quality Research of National & International Standing Create a Sustainable Environment for Research Prioritise the Translation of Research for Societal & Economic Benefit Value and Support Research Career Development Expand and Develop High Quality Graduate Education
As the Institute grows, so does its research community and the impact of its research outputs.
