Automotive and Transport Sector in India Monthly Update October 2012
Top Story Farmers to benefit from FDI in multibrand retail – Will FDI prove to be a dual benefit? With FDI in multi‐brand retail farmers can now reduce the post‐harvest losses. Loss in transit due to non‐refrigeration and air conditioning transportation system will be cut down and they will get better prices. Further it will boost investment in cold‐chain facilities. As India faces with more cases of post‐harvest losses, more investment to set up such facilities will be possible with the entry of FDI which will benefit both farmers and consumers. With the recent announcement by Walmart that they shall source their products from within 100 Kms, it certainly will be beneficial to Indian suppliers and customers. If the projects are handled properly, it must benefit the farmers.
