News Update General
Yatra.com looking to increase franchisee outlets from 29 to 100 Yatra.com is looking to increase the number of its franchisee outlets from 29 at present to about 100 within a year. The company has already expanded its franchisee network in north India and central India and is now looking to expand in other regions as well. The focus is on the southern and western parts of the country, targeting tier II cities with a population of more than 800,000. Although people book tickets and hotels online, when it comes to planning their holidays, people prefer offline models such as an outlet which can offer travellers products and services including domestic and international holiday packages, air ticketing, hotel reservations and travel insurance. Hence, the company hopes by expanding its franchisee outlets, it will be able to reach more customers.

News Update Expansion Plans
Metro Cash and Carry to start two new centres in Punjab Germany‐based Metro Cash and Carry is planning to add two new centres in Punjab in a bid to consolidate its operations in the state. The two new centres will come up at Zirakpur near Chandigarh and Amritsar. While the store at Zirakpur is likely to be operational by the end of October, the store at Amritsar would start operations by the end of the year. With these two new stores, the wholesale chain’s presence in Punjab will increase to four locations with Ludhiana and Jallandhar already have operational outlets. The wholesale chain has created synergies with farmers in Punjab who get better and certain remuneration by selling their produce to the wholesale chain. The farmers also save on transportation costs as the collection is done at their doorstep. At present Metro is operating 11 stores across India with nearly 600,000 customers. With the two new stores in Punjab, the total number of stores would go up to 13 by the end of this year. The company has been taking initiatives through awareness campaigns on hygiene and presentation with an aim to take restaurants, hotels and caterers into its fold. Industry Expert Speak Ista Hotels to Be Rebranded as Hyatt Hotels– Ratnesh Verma, Senior Vice President, Real Estate and Development for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in AsiaPacific “As a company we see a perfect fit with IHHR’s forward‐thinking philosophy and vision. We feel honored to have been selected as the new brand for their portfolio in India. It is our constant endeavor to create preference for our brand by having hotels in markets where our customers are traveling. This opportunity allows Hyatt to further consolidate its distribution in India and offer its customers a choice in new markets such as Bangalore, Amritsar and Ahmedabad.” Metro Cash and Carry consolidating its operations in Punjab – Vishal Sehgal, Head, Corporate Relations, Metro Cash and Carry India "We have created synergies with about 500 farmers in Punjab and new centres are lined up in the state. We expect to double the number. There is a stiff competition not amongst the wholesale chains but with the mandis. Their efficiency is very high and it is a challenge to beat the local mandis.” Services Sector – Monthly Update
