There is a shift in regional channel dynamics. Global vendors are progressively moving towards in country distributor partnership. The hub and spoke arrangement with a central hub managing multiple country operations is becoming increasingly less reliable. Each country has been recognised to have its own dynamics and its own localised channel partner relationship. With an overall slowdown in corporate IT buying, global vendors are keen to aggressively penetrate and develop country markets previously kept at second run. With such a perspective, in country distributors are better placed to recognise the role played by local channel partners and their requirements. The Handbook of Distributors is an effort by Reseller Middle East to move towards profiling distributors in more detail and in multiple countries. RME sent out survey forms to more than 250 active vendors. The Handbook is a compilation of their responses. We hope you find this compilation useful and informative. Leading with partners Asim Al Jammaz, VP, Al-Jammaz Distribution, shares plans about channel initiatives and business development in the region. Recent highlights As a VAD player in the Saudi market, our main focus was developing the channel by inspiring, enabling then empowering them. We have executed many programmes and initiatives toward demand generation or enabling and empowering the partners. In demand generation, we have developed joint marketing services and activities working together with our partner VARs where we focus with them in different market verticals to generate demand, leads and manage a pipeline together through joint promotion, events and out bound calls to his customers. The biggest demand we have seen from the market is for customer education of the problems and how to solve it by using our vendor products and solutions. For the enablement initiatives, we have provided different programmes to our partners in coordination with different vendors. These programmes include workshops and training in different technologies for both the sales team and the technical team of our partners, we have at least two workshops every week and sometimes

six in different cities, these programmes start from simple education of technologies to hands-on training on how to install and implement technologies, after that we guide them through the different tests and certifications. The third initiative is to empower the partners and help them to bundle services and solutions to be able to deliver the project and implement it, also engaging the VAR in a complete package bundle solution from several vendors to give a complete solution rather than asking the VAR to look for the rest, we have built a great technical team who is providing a lot of implementation services to our VAR partners in different areas. Growth drivers Technologies such as cloud and hyper cloud solutions and software, IoT infrastructure and devices, security solutions and building more advance data centres, will be the growth drivers for tomorrow. from commodity product and box moving towards providing a total solution and solution bundling, thinking about data centre requirement rather than the user devices as desktops, looking for quality resources rather than quantity, taking the risk to move to promote new technologies rather than selling existing technologies. Business focus Our business focus is to capitalise on the huge potential in the data centre space. In 2015 we are working with many partners in the mid-market to enable them to sell these kind of data centres for big brands. We will also focus more on developing a stronger sales channel including partners and IT pro-community and tightly connect our product marketing initiatives to ensure proper channel fulfilment. Our aim is to choose the right mix of sales channels and optimise their performance; this includes putting the channel in place, putting the programmes in place to support the channel, and putting the measurements in place to assure they are accomplishing what we and our vendor partners expect. We will also continually monitor performance and tune the organisation in its execution of the strategy, which is critical to achieving a successful business.

Dedicated collaborations Aside from leading its partners’ growth, building loyalty in the channel is a top priority of Almasa Value Distribution. Executive Director Roger El-Tawil discusses the company’s strategies and future plans. the region for this period and having the market reach we have today really gives us a good motivation to go further. Having said this, we remain focused on expanding our portfolio and our channel reach. While there has been quite a few challenges in the region over the past year, we do think that things are starting to look up again and we see a tremendous growth ahead. We have recently added a few members to our team and we do believe that these people can help us achieve our goals for growth in the coming year.

Company highlights It has been an interesting year. This region has been very different than usual this year, however, we have been able to maintain growth. Also, Almasa Value Distribution is celebrating its 20th year this 2015, which is definitely a major achievement. Being in

Vendor portfolio Almasa Value Distribution has four main vendors in its portfolio and three more are lined up to join in the coming year. But what we have done is expand our tie ups with some of the existing vendors in our portfolio. As an example, we are now the official distributor for LG Hotel TV. So, instead of just bringing in new products, our approach is expanding our solutions in each vertical. This strategy helps us put more focus on the top performing segments such as healthcare, education and retail. We try to have a portfolio of complementary vendors. In fact one of the new companies that we’ll be adding has a very niche offering. So that is

However, I think we are still in the infrastructure phase of these trends. Mobility is definitely a prevalent trend here, this is because people here in this region are always on the lookout for ways to stay connected at any time wherever they may be. Competitive edge For us, we always make sure that we have the right people on board to drive the business forward. Also, we’re always improving our offerings rather than keep changing it all the time. We ensure that we build loyalty in the channel. And, rather than trying to sell everything, we see to it that we concentrate and build a strong presence in a particular segment. Channel initiatives We currently have a few channel initiatives, most of which have been built together with our vendors. Since we are trying to increase our wallet share for more opportunities, we’ll be bringing in new products and value-added solutions to the verticals that we are currently serving. A lot of our initiatives entail educating the channel on these verticals and the solutions related to this. Also, we plan to continue on-boarding new partners that complements the organisations that are already in our current portfolio. This is because we aim to have partners that are working in focused segments. Plans for 2016 The sectors that we’ll continue to focus on are retail, hospitality, healthcare and education. We will continue our momentum in these industries. We are also seeing mid-market industries and SMBs doing well in the coming years and we plan to cash in on those segments as well.

On networking, network virtualisation technology has emerged to change the architecture of networking and have already started to build skills around that. Channel plans Our comprehensive portfolio of products enables us to offer our partners complete solutions that will fulfil the requirements of their customers. Arrow endeavours to support them commercially and technically to find new market opportunities for these solutions. We are doing this through initiatives like having an extensive programme of training and enablement. This is powered by our expanded training centre and our new data centre, where partners can visit and request for demos of all the products in our portfolio and have hands-on training with our certified technical team. Another initiative is our partner incentive programme, which was created to encourage partners on selling and crossselling various solutions provided by Arrow. The partners will benefit from the total relationship with Arrow by gaining incentives such as discounts, marketing campaigns, PCOs, training and shopping vouchers. Finally, we aim to provide our partners with marketing support. This year marketing will take a big part in Arrow’s partner support, we will be creating tailored marketing plans with our focused partners in the region and help them with its execution. Company overview Dell has been operating in the region since starting its international expansion into Europe, the Middle East and Africa in 1990. It is an exciting time for Dell, our customers, and our partners in terms of regional outlook and trends. The GCC has been rising up the global ICT rankings and enjoying steady growth for a while now. Similarly, we have been fortunate enough to witness double-digit growth as a company. Middle East highlights Dell has seen significant growth across the MENA region and Turkey. Dell sees that many organisations throughout the region face similar challenges and expect more and more advice and support as they expand their markets. In early 2015, Dell consolidated its business in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa to create one new business region: META. Market differentiation Dell values channel partners and understands the huge advantage they bring in their regional markets as well as their domains. We are investing in developing channel programmes for the Middle East to help partners accelerate their business and improve their capabilities and expertise around Dell Enterprise and software. We are also motivating and enabling partners to develop core-competencies in our many lines of business. Local training and enablement is a critical component of Dellâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s channel activities. Dell has established a Solution Centre in Dubai to support all technical training requirements. Our training lab also supports better training of Middle East partners, which is set up as a classroom style lab for one-on-ones and one-to-many training. Partner training is free of charge as Dell recognises the importance of making 24

information available and accessible to as many resellers as possible. We are focused on making improvements to our partner program and value proposition on a yearto-year basis. Partners in the Middle East can look forward to enhanced rebates and incentives, and an ongoing focus on rewarding expertise in the channel through the competency model and associated rebates for preferred partners. Channel plans We continue to strengthen and expand our commitment to our channel partners in the region and are planning to expand our market reach through partner recruitment and enablement. We put a great deal of focus on partner development for existing partners and by recruiting new partners to cover our growing solutions portfolio. Our sales force will focus on assisting partners to close business with products from its portfolio suited to meet end customer needs, including PowerEdge servers, storage, networking, software, thin client, workstations and Dell SecureWorks. Challenges in the channel market Partners benefit a lot by raising discussions with their vendor and partners. Investments need to be made not just in building partnerships with technology and solution providers but also by investing in their own capabilities. Investments also need to be made in relationships, including things like searching for prospective customers while really taking the time to understand each of their potential needs for IoT. Alliances and joint ventures could play an important role as well. Helping customers understand the cost and efficiencies of new IT trends and models means being able to showcase the opportunities and make sense out of the end-to-end challenge with an

end-to-end solution focus as well as the traditional siloed lines of business. Customers expect that collaboration within the channel should bring a strong practical knowledge-bank as a value-add to the engagement. So, it is crucial for partners to develop hands-on confidence in this topic. Beyond staying up-to-date with knowledge, partners will benefit from joining forces with vendors who are leaders in end-to-end IT solutions and services, and vendors who showcase success in innovating for new data centres. The right collaboration models for partners involve a vendor that can provide the flexibility to explore a breadth of solutions and make available resources to enable partners to deep-dive and get hands-on with customers. Business objectives for 2016 As we did this year with our phenomenal pace of innovative solution launches, - leadership in storage, converged infrastructure solutions such as FX, as well as leadership positions in security - we will continue in the same vein next year and beyond. Could you give us an overview of Redington’s volume business? Redington Volume Distribution is the largest broadline distributor in the Middle East region in terms of turnover, number of units sold, channel and product breadth and depth. The division distributes over 69 product categories with multiple variants for each category from over 28 global IT vendors. Redington Volume division transacted with over 1950 plus active partners across Middle East during the previous year FY 14-15 with almost 24 percent of partners increasing their transaction value year-over-year. How does Redington reinforce Microsoft’s business in the region? Redington presence in UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain with local sales offices and experienced team is an extended arm of Microsoft for it to expand deep into these markets through the wide reach of our partners. We are well positioned as Microsoft’s regional distributor for their cloud service offerings, providing them a leverage of cost and time to market by maximising channel reach and helping them build scale. As a distributor, what is the value addition you are offering for Microsoft’s cloud products? In addition to the conventional value adds of credit, financing, logistics and partner management, we now need to play the role of a ‘trusted advisor’. We will continue to help channels to vet the various cloud offerings, provide training and enablement, marketing, sales and technical support and guide their choices with scope for consolidated billing. Additionally, in this evolving world, we need to hand hold and mentor channels to reach out and secure efficient scalable access to SMB

organisations, which is key to succeed in the cloud environment. For a partner who is interested to come on board, what are the incentives they can look forward to? We incentivise our partners’ business through Redington Cloud Club. This promotion is primarily focused on cloud product offerings such as Office 365, Azure and CRM Online. It is a well thought out promotion created to entice all the stakeholders of the business, be it partner distributor, partner reseller or partner resellers’ sales team. The idea was to encapsulate all the benefits such as incentives, rewards, trips, training, and migration services, under one promotion. This way the promotion offers benefits to all and can help in influencing decisions. How can partners go about growing their market share within the cloud space in the region? Besides reselling, partners offering solution and services on cloud coupled with managed services will have more

advantages in the long run. It is a fact that the cloud business is destined to explode and resellers need to quickly embrace this shift and invest in it today. As a distributor how do you groom your partners to go to the next level? We do this by encouraging our partners to invest in Microsoft Partner Network and achieve certifications, which differentiates them in the market and advertise their specialisations, opening them for new business opportunities. We will help partners make the right choices and be a one-stop-source for them to select their pick from across a suite of diverse vendor cloud offerings. How do you see the cloud market shaping out within the Middle East over the next couple of months? With declining oil prices and uncertain economy, cloud-based solution is the answer to customers looking to upgrade their IT. This world will see 90 percent of commercial apps and 70 percent of CIOs adopting the cloud-first strategy by 2016. In this region, the cloud adoption evolution model may vary, which will be a hybrid cloud with combination of public and private cloud, depending on the customer’s workload need for an efficient environment. Public cloud will be preferred for standardised workloads such as e-mail, testing, development, collaboration projects (PaaS), incremental capacity for peak load times (IaaS), SaaS applications with well-implemented security strategy. Private cloud will be preferred where control, security and data privacy are paramount for business data and applications. The digital signage market is expected to grow by 70 percent in the Middle East region and the demand from application areas such as retail and healthcare is expected to drive the market over the next five years. Trigon realised that creating and distributing content via digital signage serves as an effective marketing tool, which is expected to spur adoption in the corporate sector. Hence, a dedicated business unit was set-up. This resulted in a growth of 50 percent higher revenues during 2014 compared to 2013 from the SI / Corporate segment. Also, during 2014, Trigon signed distribution agreement with Philips displays as the authorised distributor for its entire range of monitors across GCC countries including UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The new relationship will strengthen Trigon’s product portfolio and cements Trigon’s positon as a dominant display technology company. It will also open up new business avenues like healthcare where Philips has a strong presence. Market focus Our business is not dependent on any

single market or product, rather we have a wide spread of network. This helps us to maintain a positive balance growth between countries, partners and products. We see trends towards mobility business, tablets and smart phones, digital signage, large format displays, video walls, interactive touch as well as wearable devices. Thus, our focus remains to continue to focus on the reseller segment, retail and corporate SMS / SME as well as health care, education, hospitality and banking.

Future plans Our plan will remain to focus on the reseller segment as well as retail and corporate SMS. We will continue to support all our loyal partners and resellers irrespective of the business they do with us. Looking at the current market scenario, the only mantra is “Good Business” We have take care not to overload them with excess inventories which eventually builds up pressure on every member. This has helped them to generate good and safe business. For many companies, their passion of top line growth surpasses their awareness of cracks under the surface. These cracks keep on widening, and eventually the business will become untenable. Companies such as these inevitably collapse. Gross margins and good business have been the mantra of any business, be it a distributor or a reseller. Thus, resellers require more focus, caution, and control. Objectives for 2016 Few of our key vendors are focusing on the B2B segment and are putting a strong emphasis on solution business. Trigon will leverage this situation and focus more on value added business. Most of our Power Retail partners have aggressive expansion and growth plans during 2014 and we will partner with these plans at all levels. Regional expansion plans are in place and the feasibility study is being concluded to identify the areas for expansion.
