Can you give an overview of Redington? What does Redington’s new revamped look signify to the global market? Recently, we have unveiled our new global brand identity – a new logo and a tagline – ‘Seamless Partnerships’. The new brand identity reflects the core values of Redington as a contemporary and innovative company, which has developed its messaging strategy to reflect its evolution as a brand and its global role as a leading supply-chain solution provider for the technology industry. The new logo and tagline epitomizes the new direction that the company would like to take in the years to come. The new logo of Redington symbolizes synergy – while the existing colour green has been retained, different shades have been introduced as well, keeping in mind the ever-expanding portfolio and services of the company. It represents the synergy and oneness that Redington possesses as an organization - be it with vendors, customers, team, the environment, technology and the ecosystem within its circle of influence. The latticed geometric design depicts technological innovation as well as simplicity in complexity. The symmetrical form shows harmony between Redington and the other organizations that it collaborates. The energy is depicted in the reverse white lines, also representing the common thread of Redington’s philosophy and spirit running through the organization towards a common good. Can you elaborate on the thought-process behind the new tagline? Our logo represents synergy i.e. how we enable different elements within the ecosystem to come together as a unit. Driven by

As part of the launch, employees of Redington based in Dubai achieved a new Guinness World Records title for the longest line of USB drives. The serpentine line had 12480 USB’s arranged to form the new logo of Redington. The launch event was streamed live over the Internet from Dubai to over 4000 employees of Redington globally

Beam is a smart light socket projector that can turn any flat surface into a big screen. Users can control Beam with the Apple or Android app on their smartphones or tablets. They can screw it into any light socket, use the included power cable to place it on any flat surface or use it in the specially designed Beam Fixture. The elegantly designed smart projector seamlessly integrates with any room in a house. Customers can use it to stream content in the kitchen, watch a movie in the bedroom, or take it with you for presentations in the office. The connected projector can be programmed to automatically perform actions. Users can program anything; play a movie when someone arrives home, leave a message, or display the weather every morning.

IPHONE X iPhone X comes with thin bezel and an edge-toedge 5.8 inches diagonally OLED screen. It’s got a resolution of 2436×1125 with a pixel density of 458 ppi, which Apple calls as Super Retina. Apple has also removed the Home button for the new device. It supports TrueTone to adjust the colour temperature to the ambient light around you. iPhone X is equipped with TrueDepth camera-andsensor system to enable users to unlock it via its new facial recognition feature called FaceID. A new

feature in Messages called Animoji can mimic your mood and expression. It tracks 50 facial muscles to sync the emoji even when you’re talking and lets you send your “talking head” to a friend. Under the hood, iPhone X sports an A11 Bionic chip, which Apple says is 70 percent faster than the A10 Fusion in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. It has six cores, two for high-performance computing that are 25 percent faster, and four efficiency cores to save battery life during lower-intensity tasks.

Prioritizing partners Peter Oganesean, Regional Manager, UAE, Iraq and East Africa, HP Inc, speaks to The Shelf on how partners can be successful with the firm’s innovative offerings.

What are the two biggest challenges partners will have to address in 2018? One of the biggest challenges in the region today is dealing with diverse economies and constantly changing market conditions. Although the 2018 outlook is bright, the complexity of doing business in the region will remain. Major shifts in tax policy in the UAE and KSA is another challenge. It will lead to a change in the way channel partners operate in the region. While the introduction of VAT brings in transparency, and will boost genuine businesses, it will also have a major implication for systems, infrastructure, skills and training. In short it will bring indirect costs associated with becoming VAT compliant. How will the regional channel business evolve over the next few years? What factors should partners keep in mind to ensure profitable growth? Technology is evolving at an incredible rate. As a result, we encourage our partners to have an open mind and not be

afraid to embrace these changes. Customers place increasingly high demands on the businesses they work with, and rightfully so. Many now expect a certain level of flexibility, such as only paying for what they use. To be able to deliver on these expectations, channel partners must be prepared to adapt to changes in technology and consumption models.

Can you share your thoughts on the performance of the PC and Storage segments in the last year? Within the PC segment, HP’s shares grew consistently yearon-year, even though the overall market was deteriorating. There has been a significant growth in the ASPs across boards ensuring profitability for the entire ecosystem. Gaming and 2-in-1 categories have seen an increased focus over the last year. The design overhaul in most models has resulted in increased sellout in the retail segment. Industry research reports indicate that the PC industry will continue to see a declining trend in 2018. However, we are optimistic about maintaining the 2017 figures. The consumer data storage segment is anticipated to grow at 12 to 14 percent in Middle East, and with WD’s acquisition of SanDisk in 2016 the storage industry is heading towards consolidation. The game-changer for the consumer storage industry has been 3D NAND technology which led to rise in SSD capacities and decline in prices. Another opportunity space for channel that exist is in the surveillance storage requirement, in the commercial security market, as GCC regulatory bodies have laid down strict rules for installation of surveillance cameras for almost all verticals, along with 180-day video storage. Our priority continues to be to provide comprehensive storage solutions to our channel partners. We believe our association with a leading NAS brand such as QNAP is an initiative in the right direction. This partnership will not only help us on capitalizing the prospects in the growing NAS market but also complement our WD NAS drive offerings. Could you discuss some of the more notable trends within the Printing segment? Definitive trends got underscored in the printing segment in 2017. While the annuity business was steady to an extent, the hardware business saw a paradigm shift in customer preferences and business models. This was because of increased demand for inkjet printers vis-a-vis laser printers, and an overall shift towards Managed Print Services from the transactional model.

There was a decline in terms of the number of units, however, that was compensated by an increase in ASP. We further strengthened our printing portfolio with promising partnerships with Ricoh and Xerox over the last 18 months. This is in addition to our existing portfolio of HP, Canon, and Epson. Internally, the focus is to capture the low market share in A3 printers with exclusive partnership with HP and renewed focus on corporate business. Can you share some highlights in the Components and Peripherals segment in 2017? The components and peripherals segment includes projectors, digital displays, gaming and professional graphics, deep learning and GPU computing as well as storage units. Within projectors, we have performed consistently in a category that is either flat or shrinking year-on-year. We have inked distribution partnerships with newer brands such as Optoma, a brand with core focus on projection. We are looking to target the mid and high-end projectors market, together with Optoma over the course of this year. In the digital display business, we’ve signed up with NEC for professional displays and high-end projectors. This was a completely new stream and different from the traditional IT products that we usually deal with. We intend to grow stronger in the professional display market by expanding our brand and customer portfolio. Under the PC display division, we’ve added Dell’s range of PC monitors, which are already market leaders in the segment. It’s a highly competitive market but we have received positive response in the early days of our operations for this segment. In 2017, we had entered the gaming graphics space with the vendor PNY. The development and growth that we have seen so far is promising. We’ve been instrumental in grabbing market share for PNY in the channel market within a short span of six months. Gamers are also positive about the brand and its offerings. The market can expect to hear more developments on this end

during the year. Our professional graphics unit has also witnessed a steady sustainable growth along with PNY, which is the exclusive supplier of professional graphics in the retail segment. These products are used by designers, engineers, architects, media persons for performing heavy tasks on specialized software. This was another new end-user segment for us. We sought new set of corporate resellers to target these buyers and the response has been fantastic till date. How has been your journey with Microsoft hardware business so far? In the current business scenario where the PC business growth is single digit or almost stagnant the Surface revolution has come as fresh air in the market. Started from 2014 with 2 countries and 1 product, we have now reached 5 countries and complete product line in this business. This is one business which has grown half on half and is continue to do so. The Introduction to HUB in 2016 proved to be a game changer in meeting room solution space and has become a benchmark. With 1 device and lot many capabilities, this has become preferred choice these days for most of our partners and there end customers.

In terms of value, the global tablet market is anticipated to have a healthy incremental opportunity during the forecast period.
