Software and workloads used in performance tests may have been optimized for performance only on Intel microprocessors. Performance tests, such as SYSmark* and MobileMark*, are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products. For more information go to http://www.intel.com/performance. Testing: Measured using 3DMark* Ice Storm 1.2 Unlimited—a 3D graphics benchmark that measures 3D gaming performance. Dalson Trading Company’s Raju Sadhwani, outlines business strategies and plans for 2016.
In the previous issue, I had discussed how tough competition from nimble start-ups is affecting established players globally. For established players, the challenge is to reinvent themselves and innovate their business models. However, it can be a really risky proposition as any sudden displacement or disruption to existing business models can be counter-productive and cannibalize profit streams. So what can incumbents do? Instead of implementing organization-wide sweeping changes, established players could first set up independent silos for innovation, which can start small and when they begin to scale, they can ensure continuity for the business in the long-term. In order to achieve this, businesses need to undergo a complete 360-degree transformation in its go-to-market (GTM) approach within the ecosystem, which includes suppliers, customers and the company itself. The GTM strategy enables organizations to deliver its unique value proposition to target customers. Building an effective GTM not only requires in-depth planning but also creativity. By revamping the approach to the market, established companies can create more room for innovation, which has now become a vital element to sustain growth. Few companies which have used a similar approach by providing all the relevant resources to new initiatives could be Google –from a search company and now also powering smartphones, Disneyfrom Cartoon Studio, an established leade in animation industry to live-action film production, television, theme parks, cruise business. But, one thing common in the above examples is that these companies have not moved away from their vision. If innovation is incorporated right from the GTM stage, large organizations have a better opportunity to evolve with the times without carrying out drastic changes. The important aspect to note here is that irrespective of the ‘how’, organizations must define the innovation space in which they have to operate immediately, and articulate the value proposition to drive profitability. I hope, as our partner, you are continuously innovating to grow your business and we could play a role in helping you do the same.
Yours Sincerely Raj Shankar Managing Director, Redington Gulf

connections made to boost efficiency to meet the specific needs of your workday. In addition to the existing wide array of secure, purpose-built devices, HP is giving business customers a choice of application eco-systems and user experiences. When coupled with the new software offerings from HP and its partners, the company has created a complete mobility solution for all businesses – including education, field service, healthcare, public safety and retail industries.
How does HP’s mobility portfolio bring tangible benefits to customers? Analysts have seen that the modern workforce is more productive working from multiple locations and several devices while connected to customers, resources and colleagues across the world. This means they are able to communicate, collaborate and get stuff done regardless of where they are in the world without risking company data or the data of their customers. The modern workforce is spending more time with customers understanding their day-today challenges and being able to connect with both partners and colleagues from around the world to find the solutions needed to keep our customers doing what they do best – running their business. How does mobility go beyond just apps and devices for enterprises? Enterprise mobility extends beyond device
www.redingtonmea.com
and an app to include enterprise grade security (in both the OS and the hardware), manageability (of data and device), integration with existing infrastructure and the ability to run legacy software written years ago for the business. It also means working from anywhere at any time because of all day battery life, cellular connectivity and being able to connect accessories and peripherals to the device. Enterprise mobility means not having to sacrifice security or productivity for a lightweight device that runs both modern and legacy applications. It needs a device that is reliable and is supported across the globe for the world traveler. What are the concerns around mobility for regional organizations and how does HP address them? Like any new technology, mobility introduces new risks to the way we do business. Some of those risks include loss of device or data, devices breaking and day-to-day bumps and cyber-attacks and malware. At HP, we address these concerns by focusing on the requirements of business by including software that works with vPro technology to reduce the risk of device or data loss. HP Client Security Software Suite provides multiple safeguards to protect the data that is important to business and defends against thefts, attacks and unauthorized users. Our dedication to security extends to include

finger print readers and self-encrypting hard drives for that extra bit of security. Mobile life means devices get dropped, devices get bumped and damages occur. HP reduces physical damage by building products using the same material as the aerospace industry that can deal with life’s little knocks. Should something break, our enterprise devices can be repaired and can include extended four year warranties in over 170 countries. Cyber-attacks and malware have become more organized and are no longer the work of individuals. Windows 10 and the HP BIOSphere with HP Sure Start protection means your device is protected at both the operating system and at the BIOS level. How can partners leverage HP’s mobility solutions and optimize the opportunities present? Partners should be more proactive when discussing enterprise mobility with customers. It is up to our trusted partners and advisors to share with customers how mobility can not only improve productivity and reduce costs, but can fundamentally change the way we interact with our customers and the customers of our customers. Our customers focus on running their business and trust their partners to share not only the hardware and software needed to keep them productive and competitive but also to challenge the way they work by developing solutions that push the boundaries of the hardware and software.

Microsoft
Growth engine The Shelf speaks to Haider Salloum, Small Medium Business Director, Microsoft Gulf, on the channel opportunity with its cloud solutions offering.
What are the opportunities partners have with Microsoft business? In a mobile-first, cloud-first world, partnering with Microsoft delivers many benefits, including business sustainability and profitability. Partners should see a tremendous opportunity particularly in selling cloud technology. A few of the opportunities that can create strong financial upside are as below: As we pull away from the need to invest in heavy CAPEX elements such as hardware, we are shifting the customer’s IT budget into additional services that the partner can provide. Solutions such as Azure support a partner in extending and strengthening the value they provide to their customers by broadening their managed services offering. The cloud expands the geographical reach of a partner as it removes the dependency of the requirement to have someone

physically present to resolve any issues. Selling cloud solutions provide partners with recurring revenue opportunities that foster strong ongoing relationships with their customers. Partners have a great opportunity to align with the Microsoft cloud vision and empower businesses to achieve more. They have the opportunity to not only learn about some of the latest and greatest technology in Microsoft but also to sell some of these solutions. How is Microsoft enabling partners to leverage these opportunities? Microsoft provides partners with the Cloud SureStep methodology framework that is designed to help partners maximize profitability and become cloud technology experts. We supply many forms of resources and assets across sales, marketing and readiness to support partner cloud

acceleration. These resources include business planning modules, cloud enablement training, marketing and sales training, deployment training and much more. These resources help a partner get started with selling cloud solutions and subsequently with growing and optimizing their cloud business. All these resources are available online through Microsoft and its distributors.
How can partners grow and maintain their profitability with products such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Dynamic CRM online and Office 365? It’s very important to focus on three elements; your reach, frequency and yield. You must increase the volume of customers you are selling to (reach) and the frequency with which you are selling to them, in order to ensure business longevity and profitability. It’s important to understand the needs of your customer and ensure you are pitching all the right solutions to them in order to eliminate their pain points and add value. This is important because today’s marketplace is highly competitive so you need to differentiate yourself from your competition by offering your customer more than just a ‘transaction’. You need to be offering your customer a relationship that has value-added benefits for them such as the provision of innovative technology and services and an in-depth knowledge of their industry, which indicates you understand their business requirements.

Microsoft
“We will continue to encourage and support our partners to lead with cloud, and in turn we will keep launching programs to reward cloud adoption and acceleration.”
What are the different ways they can go to market with these products? There are so many ways that a partner can go to market with our solutions. Partners have the opportunity to conduct joint marketing activities with Microsoft, which can include; tele-marketing activity, digital marketing activity and round table events. Partners can also focus on scaling their own marketing campaigns through social media and content marketing. All of our partners have access to our Smart Marketing Centre, which provides any partner with access to a vast amount of content for use on many mediums such as Twitter, Facebook, EDMs and digital media. We also have identified some great digital marketing agencies that our partners can work with to develop go-to-market strategies and campaigns. Over the course of 2016, what are some initiatives partners can expect around this portfolio of business? Even more exciting initiatives are going to be happening with Azure. It’s an incredible solution that has a lot to offer, so watch this space. Is there anything else you like to highlight? We will continue to encourage and support our partners to lead with cloud, and in turn we will keep launching programs to reward cloud adoption and acceleration. We will also continue to support our distributors who are continuously coming up with exciting programs and incentive promotions for our partners.

Telecom Distribution
Can you give us an overview of the mobility market in the UAE? What are the opportunities in this market? UAE is situated at the unique junction of two worlds. We have access to over 50 brands in the market, which has relatively low barriers to entry and comparatively high spending power. Brands in the UAE can find buyers at multiple price points yet there is immense competition. Out of 50 brands in this market only the top five command a majority share of the market and are driving consumer preference. That being said, the market circumstances are ideal for new entrants to establish a strong portfolio. A majority of the UAE population is transient in nature, enabling a brand to reach a far greater audience and reach by targeting just one market. The time is ripe to make a well calculated investment in the future of a telecom brand by investing in the UAE and the Middle East. What are the growth drivers for the business? Redington Telecom Distribution in the Middle East has been aggressive in adding new brands to the portfolio over the past two years. We have been able to secure many strong brands in the market such as Apple, Alcatel, Asus, Lenovo, Motorola and Xtouch. Each brand brings unique business offering and we have been able to cater to the demands of each of these unique customer offerings. Using learnings from one brand when implementing for another, we have been able to define new parameters for rapid brand expansion.

“2016 is an exciting year for the telecom industry and Redington Telecom Distribution in the Middle East. The market will only grow and expand further and we will begin to see consolidation among the various brands.”
We are also one of the few distributors who offer a dedicated marketing team, that can deliver any new brand support in planning and implementing a quick, efficient and high return demand generation activity. How has the demand increased over the years? The democratisation of the smartphone will lead in the shift of consumer preference from feature phones. Now at a more accessible price point – the smartphone will only see growth in adaptation and ultimately enhancement of the models of choice. We have been working with our brands to constantly bring better value to the market. Along with one of the brands that we partnered with, we pioneered the launch of the cheapest LTE 5-inch smartphone in this market. What kind of added-value does Redington offer partners in this area? With a fleet of over 16 vans spread across the UAE carrying ample stock at any given time – we aim to reduce the lead time in serving any of our customers’ orders. Providing quick purchase solutions and speedy order fulfilment allow us to act as a differentiator in the congested telecom space. Customers need not stock large quantities in a market where the price is extremely volatile. How can partners remain profitable in this segment? There are over 50 brands operating for a share

of the customers’ wallet in the smartphone market in this region. There are only a few brands, which stand out in terms of customer recall and market share. I believe making the smart investment in building a strong portfolio will help to remain profitable. Do you see the business picking up over the next few quarters? 2016 is an exciting year for the telecom industry and Redington Telecom Distribution in the Middle East. The market will only grow and expand further and we will begin to see consolidation among the various brands. This year, while smartphone sales continue to grow, we see more consumers moving away from feature phones – this will expand the smartphone market greatly. We will also see brand and price conscious buyers looking for good value in products, which are one generation old. Can you elaborate on your plans for 2016? We will see a continuous consolidation of the number of brands in the market. In order to better reach out to our customers we have invested in a strong infrastructure for UAE. We have a wide network of vans, which reach deep into UAE to enable quick delivery. 2016 will see us expanding our infrastructure with investments in OGCC and Saudi Arabia. We are aiming to be the telecom distributor of choice in the coming years across the GCC with an infrastructure scale to support the largest brands.

Reseller interview
Poised for growth
How does Redington enable and support you to solve these challenges?
Raju Sadhwani, Managing Director, Dalson Trading Company, outlines business strategies and plans for the year.
By adopting innovative strategies and more aggressive price points to remain competitive and attractive to the target audiences.
Could you give an overview of Dalson’s business in the Middle East? Dalson Trading Company (DTC) was established in 1980 and was founded on the principles of excellence in technology, performance and quality products. These key factors continue to determine the success of the company and over the years we have partnered with global brands including Apple, Citizen, Casio and Wellberg. We have transformed from a small family company to now emerge as an appropriately structured entity, well positioned to capitalize on the success of the past years. We have been at the forefront of electronics and communication industry for more than two decades. We are proud to have positioned ourselves as one of the major importers, exporters and wholesalers through our operations based in Dubai. DTC has been actively involved in procurement and obtaining exclusive agencies and distribution agreements. We focus on promoting their products in the Middle East and neighbouring countries and also act as an international arm for our sister concerns – Dalson Trading Co. Branch and Dalson Electronics.
Can you share key milestones at Dalson in 2015? DTC was appointed as Authorized Apple reseller for UAE. DTC also entered the household and kitchen ware product segment through an alliance with
www.redingtonmea.com
Bergner, to be the sole distributor of their brand ‘Wellberg’ in MEA.
What are the drivers for the regional demand? Pricing structure and refreshed product portfolio will improve Apple’s competitive position in the market, making it more affordable.
What are your competitive differentiators? We believe that there is power in numbers, therefore, in 2016 we will be focusing on expanding our network of contacts and potential clients. We enjoy robust relationships with our clients based on deep mutual trust and we are connected with them. The team is customer-friendly and our sales process is simple. It is easy for our customers to communicate and buy. If we cannot differentiate on price due to any reason, then we focus on other aspects such as service, relationship and process.
“If we cannot differentiate on price due to any reason, then we focus on other aspects such as service, relationship and process.”
Could you elaborate on your plans for 2016? We expect our current growth pattern to continue into 2016 and beyond. Four core trends can be identified to underline this positive outlook: Introduction of new Apple products: Reports suggest that Apple is expected to release new devices, new software, hardware and services throughout the year. It will be a safe bet for Dalson. Domestic demographic trends: The domestic demographic growth outlook for the UAE and in particular Dubai is extremely positive, with the population estimated to grow an additional 5% and tourist arrival rising year-on-year. We are confident that 2016 will be another great year for us. Domestic business environment: Dubai offers a unique business environment with the retail industry experiencing a phenomenal growth over the past few years. 2016 too has begun on a positive note in the market and we aim to capitalize on opportunities this open market is offering us. Regional development: Middle East is a dynamic retail market with focus on five countries – UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar, our growth strategy will be to expand the business in these markets and look for new ones such as Egypt.
How much growth are you looking to close the year with? We foresee a growth of 10% in 2016 and with plans well underway, we are positive this can be achieved.
