Dell EMC expands data protection offerings for multi-cloud environments Data Domain and Integrated Data Protection Appliance deliver simply powerful data protection at a lower cost to protect. Dell EMC has announced new and enhanced capabilities to the Dell EMC Data Domain and Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) portfolio of backup storage appliances designed to offer organizations real-world flexibility and value with expanded multi-cloud capabilities and improved performance. The enhancements also provide mid-sized organizations and remote offices of larger organizations with more choice and options in obtaining enterprise-level data protection. According to IDC, 92 percent of organizations have adopted a cloud environment with 64 percent adopting a multi-cloud approach. With a mix of different clouds, protecting data across workloads while meeting compliance and security requirements is a critical challenge for many organizations. Dell EMC recognizes this challenge and continues to enhance its data protection appliances to help customers mitigate risk and protect their most valuable asset – their data – in multi-cloud environments. “As the industry leader in data protection appliances, Dell EMC is committed to delivering continued innovation in our data protection portfolio that supports and improves
customers’ adoption of multi-cloud environments,” said Beth Phalen, President, Data Protection, Dell EMC. “Our appliances are powerful, simple to manage and make it easy to expand to public clouds with native cloud capabilities.” Multi-cloud capabilities Data Domain OS 6.2 and IDPA 2.3 software now provide customers with even more choice to extend their data protection to public clouds with expanded Cloud Tier support to Google Cloud Platform and Alibaba Cloud, thereby, enabling more flexibility for long-term retention.
This is in addition to support already offered across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage, Virtustream, Ceph, IBM Cloud Open Storage, AWS Infrequent Access, Azure Cool Blob storage and Azure Government Cloud. Also, a new Free-space Estimator Tool for Cloud Tier helps enable more efficient capacity management to help reduce on-premises and cloud storage costs. Dell EMC also expanded its ecosystem of supported public cloud providers for Data Domain Virtual Edition (DD VE), which provides software defined data protection
on-premises and in public clouds, to AWS GovCloud, Azure Government Cloud and Google Cloud Platform. This adds to the already supported platforms AWS S3 and Azure Hot Blob. The expanded cloud ecosystem combined with the previously announced increased capacity for DD VE – up to 96TB per instance – ensures customers will receive the same level of protection within their growing cloud environments as they receive from their on-premises Dell EMC appliances. Additionally, Native Cloud Disaster Recovery is now available across the entire IDPA family, enabling customers to cost-effectively failover to a cloud environment with end-to-end orchestration. Customers no longer have to bear the expense and management of setting up and maintaining a secondary site for disaster recovery and can failover to public clouds with ease in case of a disaster event and failback when the issues are resolved. With this expansion, all Data Domain and IDPA models support AWS, including VMware Cloud on AWS, and Microsoft Azure for Cloud Disaster Recovery. Organizations will also find peace of mind Continued on page 3

Dell EMC expands... in that all Dell EMC data protection appliances provide modern, simple-to-manage user interfaces. Also, administrators can easily manage multiple Data Domain and DD VE appliances – on-premises or in public clouds – from a single user interface with the Data Domain Management Center. Updates to the IDPA family now provide more performance for Instant Access and Restore with an enhanced data cache that results in up to four times more inputs/outputs per second (IOPS), providing up to 40,000 IOPS with as little as 20 milliseconds latency.
Also, Data Domain appliances provide faster restores from an on-premises appliance and faster recalls from public clouds. Given these enhancements, organizations can now restore their data up to two-and-a-half times faster from a Data Domain appliance and recall their data up to four times faster from the cloud to a Data Domain appliance, allowing them to meet more stringent SLAs. Dell EMC Data Domain Operating System 6.2, Dell EMC IDPA 2.3 and enhancements to Data Domain DD3300 are available immediately through Dell EMC and its authorized channel partners.

The Saudi Channel in 2019
By Rashad Baradie, GM, Saudi Arabia, Redington Value
As 2019 begins, we can expect changes, large and small, to transpire within the channel partner ecosystem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the course of the year, we expect the following trends to take off: Digital transformation is happening in the Kingdom: Channel chiefs say getting partners to adopt new technologies and business models is their biggest challenge, however, partners are investing in their future. Six out of 10 partners are making investments in expanding their cloud computing capabilities. More partners are seeing growth opportunities in IoT, mobile technologies, cloud infrastructure, AI and blockchain. Security business to be at all-time high: As the IT business is undergoing a stagnant period overall, security is the next growth destination where channel partners should head to. In 2019, we will see partners expanding verticals and stepping into the security and sustainable business in a big way. Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises: The government will facilitate access to funding for SMEs and it will encourage financial institutions in the Kingdom to allocate up to 20 percent of overall funding to SMEs by 2030, as they only contribute 20 percent towards Saudi Arabia’s GDP. To address this, the recently established SME Authority plans to review regulations, remove obstacles, facilitate access to funding, and enable youth and entrepreneurs to market their ideas and products. Big data consulting services top analytics opportunities for channel: The business opportunities afforded by big data analytics are further underscored by the lack of channel companies seizing them. Many firms are looking to do big data projects and some are looking for help to align with Saudi Vision 2030, but it is taking a while for the companies conducting the consulting to develop and mature.

AWS announces Amazon WorkLink
HPE Launches...
Fully managed service enables customers to easily and securely provide employees oneclick access to internal websites and web applications on mobile devices.
Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, has announced the availability of Amazon WorkLink, a fully managed service that enables companies to provide their workforce with secure one-click access to internal websites and web applications from their mobile devices without connecting to VPNs or using custom browsers. End users simply download the Amazon WorkLink app to enable access to internal content through existing browsers on their mobile devices. IT administrators determine which internal content to make available, and Amazon WorkLink securely renders it behind the scenes using the compute and networking infrastructure of AWS, delivering a non-cached, fully functional, graphical representation of the web content to the user requesting it. Amazon WorkLink removes the need to build and maintain complicated infrastructure and software deployments to secure access to internal content on authorized mobile devices outside of the firewall. It also re-
duces the risk of information loss or theft because content is never stored or cached on devices. There are no up-front payments, per seat licensing costs, or long-term commitments, and customers pay only $5 per active user per month. Amazon WorkLink was built to provide convenient access to critical content for workers and to make it easier for IT administrators to deliver secure access to mobile devices, all while providing greater security by ensuring that the corporate web content is never stored or cached on the device. At the core of Amazon WorkLink is a secure web browser hosted in the cloud that transforms web content into a fully interactive simple vector graphics (SVG) graphical representation. Once rendered, Amazon WorkLink sends that graphical representation to the web browser on an end user’s device. Unlike virtual desktop applications, this means Amazon WorkLink does not stream content, but instead embeds a fully interactive image in an end user’s existing browser, enabling
common gestures and features like scrolling, typing, and pinching locally on the device despite the web page running in the cloud. “When talking with customers, all of them expressed frustration that their workers don’t have an easy and secure way to access internal content, which means that their employees either waste time or don’t bother trying to access content that would make them more productive,” said Peter Hill, Vice President of Productivity Applications at AWS. “With Amazon WorkLink, we’re enabling greater workplace productivity for those outside the corporate firewall in a way that IT administrators and security teams are happy with and employees are willing to use.” Amazon WorkLink supports devices running iOS 12+ (with Android 6+ coming in weeks) and works with Safari, with Chrome support to follow in the coming weeks. Amazon WorkLink is available immediately in North America and Europe and will expand to additional regions in the coming year.
available, with either a front-to-back and back-tofront cooling design. Low-latency, high-performance system design powers data-intensive applications at the edge – The single-socket design, equipped with high-end Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, reduces latency and energy consumption. System components can be combined, scaled and hot-swapped to meet changing demands, supporting, among others, NVIDIA Tesla GPUs, FPGAs from Intel and Xilinx, NICs from Intel or Mellanox, up to 1.5TB of memory and 16TB of storage. Modular blade and chassis options for use-case flexibility – With a range of depth and width options for blades and chassis, the system can be flexibly configured and scaled to meet new or changing use-case requirements. The flexible design allows CSPs to extend small- and micro-cell deployments, ensuring that cellular coverage can keep pace with increasing numbers of connected devices. One-click provisioning and remote systems management ensures continuous availability and performance in far-flung cell-sites – HPE’s proven HPE iLO 5 technology and the newly developed chassis manager software enable remote provisioning, ongoing system health monitoring, updates, and management of HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge Systems across thousands of cell sites, from cell towers to oil rigs, without needing IT expertise on site. The HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge System will be available worldwide from June 2019.

Barracuda boosts Total Email Protection with Forensics and Incident Response Automated incident response gives customers and channel partners a faster, more efficient way to find, investigate, and remediate malicious emails delivered to users’ inboxes. Barracuda has announced the introduction of Forensics and Incident Response. Available to Barracuda Total Email Protection customers, the solution automates incident response and provides remediation options, helping organizations address issues faster and more efficiently. Attackers often attempt to bypass traditional email security measures by using social engineering tactics — emails that contain no malicious code, attachments, links, or accounts — or by trying to reuse credentials stolen in an outside data breach or compromised through another threat vector. When an attack like this does slip through an organization’s defenses, administrators need to respond quickly.
With Forensics and Incident Response, when users report a targeted attack, administrators can investigate the attack, find all the affect-
ed users, remove malicious emails directly from users’ inboxes, and send alerts to users impacted by an incident. In addition, discovery
and threat functionality help identify anomalies in delivered email, giving customers and channel partners proactive ways to detect email threats. “Today when security teams learn about email-borne attacks, for most companies, security incident response is a time-consuming, manual process that can take hours or days to identify and remediate, which can often lead to further spread of an attack,” said Asaf Cidon, VP of Content Security, Barracuda. “Forensics and Incident Response addresses these problems by arming businesses with the tools and information they need to handle incidents in a faster and more proactive way that can take minutes instead of hours or days.”
