reShaped and PLACED CIC were commissioned to transform a redundant and dangerous playground into a low maintenance pocket park suitable for the current elderly population of Baxter Close. The commission included resident engagement, design, specification, overseeing construction work and resident planting days. The consultation revealed that residents wanted a bright, colourful place which created an attractive setting to their houses that their grand children could play in and discouraged anti-social activity. This was translated into the design as bulb-filled meadows with climbing boulders, sloping lawns, rolling hills, edible hedges and a beautiful focal cherry tree. Baxter Close Pocket park is currently being constructed and will be completed this month. Landscape Budget: ÂŁ10,000

Merthyr Tydfil County Bourough Council: River Taff Pocket Parks, Merthyr Tydfil Brief Description of Project: Public realm and ecological infrastructure proposals for the river corridor and Taff Trail to be implemented over a 30 year time period. The strategy plan is popular with MTCBC Cabinet and the funders and is in its fourth phase of construction works. Works have included the construction of a new fish pass and viewpoint, creation of pocket parks, and improvements to over 1km of the river edge walkway with new railing, lighting, paving and planting.
