CUSTOM RUG PROGRAM

STEP 1: CREATING A DESIGN The first step to the process is to create a design to show the client. A design can come from virtually any source – the interior designer or client may use and existing design, submit a design of their own, or it may be from a part of a fabric, or taken out of a magazine etc. Once we are given the design, we will create a computer rendering showing how the full size rug will look. STEP 2: SELECTING COLORS Colors can be taken from our standard color box, or taken from the Pantone Home and Textile group of colors (TPX) – which we will be able to dye our yarns to match, or you may submit a piece of fabric or other color surface, which again, we will be able dye our yarns to match to. When possible, colors should be submitted along with the design, in order for the computer rendering to be complete and inclusive of the clients selected colors. STEP 3: COMPUTER RENDERING For each rug order, we will provide one free computer rendering. Once the design and colors are submitted, we will create a full design of the rug, in actual scale and to the size of the rug being ordered. The rendering can then be shown to the client for approval. We will usually submit a rendering to you in 1-3 business days. STEP 4: MAKING A STRIKE OFF Once the client has approved the computer rendering, and is ready to proceed with the order, we will then make a strike off sample of the rug. The first sample made is free of charge. The sample is made to be able to show all the colors in the rug, and as best a section of the design as possible. If a client is happy with the rendering and does not need to see a sample, or perhaps wants to have the rug finished quickly, this step can be skipped, and we can move directly into production. Our standard 1’x1’ strike off samples have an average lead time of 4-6 weeks before you will receive them. STEP 5: APPROVAL PROCESS Once a strike off sample is received, the client may decide to approve it, and then proceed directly to making the actual rug. They may also decide that it is not how they wanted it, and request another sample to be made, with some slight modifications. In such a case, we will repeat steps 3-5 again, until the client is happy with the strike off, and can then proceed to make the rug. STEP 6: RUG PRODUCTION Once a rug has been approved for production, we will immediately begin to make the rug. There are several stages in production which include the dyeing of yarns, preparation of loom, weaving, removing finished rug from the loom, finishing process on the rug, washing, drying, and then packing and shipping to the USA. This whole process will vary in time, depending on the size of the rug and the complexity

of the design. Rugs up to size 9’x12’ can take up to 3 months to be completed. Rugs which are greater than 9’x12’ in size can take upwards of 4 months to complete, again, depending on the specific size of the rug. Upon receipt of a confirmed order, we will submit to you an approximate lead time, and we will keep you updated of the progress of the rug during this time. PRODUCTION PROCESS: We are able to produce our Tibetan rugs, which are woven in Nepal, in 4 main qualities – 60 Knot, 80 Knot, 100 Knot and 150 Knot. (the higher the knot count the finer the quality of the rug). All rugs are RUGMARK® certified, to be free of child labor. We can use any of the following yarns in any combination – Himalayan Wool, New Zealand Wool, Silk, Hemp, Linen, Viscose. We can also use Cactus, Bamboo and Aloe yarns in rugs as requested. Because of the nature of the dyeing of the yarns – we use traditional pot dyeing methods – dye lots may vary between samples and rugs, or between rugs, by +/- 3%. Because of the nature of the different weavers’ techniques, different loom set ups, and the final rug washing process, on some occasions, the actual sizeof a rug may vary by up to 2% for each rug. GREEN COMPLIANT Our rugs are produced using a handmade process throughout, with virtually no use of machinery. Our wool pile and cotton warp and weft are eco friendly, sustainable and renewable. Our wool, silk, cotton, hemp and viscose rugs are non-flammable, and meet the flammability requirements (certificates available upon request). Our wool is sourced from sheep that graze freely on a 100% natural diet, and is biodegradable and reusable. Our rugs meet the requirements set by the LEED building rating system.
