Tell us a little bit about yourself, Paul. What did you do before you came to ResourceCo?
I started my professional career as an apprentice in the aluminium industry, but after getting all my qualifications I travelled the world helping to manage some exciting projects. I completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went into the mining sector, providing project management and operational, maintenance and shutdown management for BHP. I was enticed into the recycling and waste to energy sector by Suez, where we worked with ResourceCo to grow the Adelaide alternative fuel business as an efficient processing facility. After a brief hiatus back at BHP I was recently given the opportunity to join the ResourceCo team and continue in the resource recovery industry.
How do you explain your role at ResourceCo to people you’ve just met?
My current role is all about helping ResourceCo with strategic growth and business development. I am helping to deliver the largest capital investment and growth projects that the ResourceCo group has ever embarked upon.
Amazing! What prompted you to join us here at ResourceCo?
I’ve worked for large multinationals creating large carbon footprints, and it’s exciting to now be working with a company that produces opportunities to dramatically offset that footprint.
What’s a challenge you’ve recently faced at ResourceCo?
Taking the alternative fuel business in NSW and helping them improve the operational efficiency has been challenging. I guess this part of history is still in the making.
What’s something you’ve achieved recently at ResourceCo?
It’s been rewarding for me to see ResourceCo move forward, even in the short time I’ve been here. Knowing that I am now involved in this success is great.
Quick fire round! Describe ResourceCo in 3 words.
Inclusive, progressive, challenging.
What’s next for ResourceCo and the wider resource recovery industry?
I’m excited about the role that ResourceCo has to play in the future of the resource recovery industry. Government funding coupled with ResourceCo’s commitment to growth means it’s an incredible time to be backing a circular economy.
REGINA PHILLIPS
Group Accountant and Executive Assistant to Managing Director Simon Brown
Tell us a little bit about yourself, Regina. How long have you been a part of the ResourceCo team?
I joined ResourceCo way back in 1999. Before that, I held a senior role in finance at a rubber manufacturing organisation. When I first came to ResourceCo I was an Office Manager responsible for all payroll functions, accounts payable and receivable, and administration. I was also the first female to join the organisation! Now, I’m the ResourceCo Group Accountant and EA to our Managing Director, Simon.
How would you explain your role at ResourceCo to someone you’ve just met?
I’ve had many different responsibilities over the years here at ResourceCo. These days you can find me supporting the finance team, processing payrolls, filing BAS returns, payroll tax and work cover, and verifying the accounts off all companies under the ResourceCo umbrella. I also keep Simon on track with his dayto-day tasks.
You’ve been an important part of ResourceCo now for over twenty years, what’s stood out to you during your time here?
I’ve witnessed some amazing moments here. Like when ResourceCo won the Telstra Small Business of the Year Awards and attending the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards which Simon won. The team here is constantly striving for better which has helped ResourceCo become what it is today.
How have you challenged yourself at ResourceCo?
Keeping up with change is a challenge! With growth comes change and that in itself is a real and exciting challenge.
What’s something you’ve achieved recently at ResourceCo?
My career has been absolutely rewarding. Meeting new people and collaborating with them to make real progress is something I love.
Quick fire round! Describe ResourceCo in 3 words.
This was so long ago, so I don’t think I could put it in just 3 words. But I have always loved coming to work. Every day brings something new.
What does working in the resource recovery industry mean to you?
I’m very proud to be working for a company that’s preserving limited resources for future generations. The focus beyond profit is just great to see.
