Liquid Campus The ‘Liquid Campus’ series is a yearly project of the ‘Institut für Industrielle Bauproduktion und Entwerfen (ifib)’ in cooperation with the ‘Institut für Tragkonstruktionen (ift)‘ at the University of Karlsruhe and the ‘Stadtjugendausschuss e.V. Karlsruhe’. (www.liquid-campus.de). In 2008 it was managed by Manuel Kretzer, Hans Sachs and Andreas Kindsvater. Altogether 17 students participated and realized four different pavilions.

The project ‘Liquid Campus’ was initiated in the year 2000. From it originated the so called ‘virtual architecture school’ - a platform that is supported by a lot of German Universities and Colleges. Students of the ‘virtual architecture school’ have the possibility to attend a variety design studios from participating schools. Within this field each year students design temporary event architecture for ‘Das Fest’. These pavilions or installations are always a highlight of the festival and gain a lot of attention from the visitors.

Helioglob

by Albert Ellerbroek, Christian Metz, Reo Severain and Stefan Lotze This pavilion was made from a multitude of helium filled ballons that hovered over a suspended nylon foil. This dome gave shelter from rain and constantly changed it’s shape due to wind and weather. DMX controlled RGB-LED tubes were integrated into the ballons and made the whole sculpture glow at night time.
