DURING this month we will see increased sales to students, mostly college-aged ones along with their parents who will be frantically gathering all the necessities and provisions that will be needed for dorm last days of the summer when road trips often stop at stores along the way or at the colleges themselves. AS had been predicted, more people are staying at home this summer and it has meant some increased traffic and sales at local flea markets. Many families have been using their weekends to visit the various flea markets in their areas. This is a great way to spend family time and mix in some shopping. Treat these new shoppers well and they will remember you when it comes time to do their holiday shopping! WITH the holidays approaching as our next big retailing bonanza, it is wise to start thinking about your merchandise mix as well as new promotions to lure shoppers into your booth. This season it will be very competitive with many of the big box stores doing some early discounting, so make sure you are ready. PUNCH cards and loyalty bonus points are very appreciated by shoppers and they are simple to create programs for. Buy “x” amount of items or dollars and get “x” free. These programs encourage loyalty. It works for most major stores, including Starbucks, who in my opinion has burnt horrid coffee, BUT a loyal following who is very rewarded by them!
