CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGY
Narrative Overview
This project draws inspiration from biblical concepts of the Vine and the branches, and the Fruits of the Spirit, aiming to instill strength, hope, and connection to something higher. The retreat physically embodies this biblical narrative, chosen to address poor mental states by offering values that counter feelings of helplessness. The design encourages an outward focus, aligning with the unique biblical perspective that true hope is found in God, not in oneself. This perspective, if embraced, guides one, standing on mentally solid ground through life’s challenges to ultimately meet God.
One entrance | Salvation
The Invitation, The Surrender, the Acceptance
A welcoming ‘reception’ building as the only entrance to the park symbolizes the biblical theme of salvation. Just as one receives access to God solely by belief in Jesus and accepting his gift of eternal life, entering the park implies a taking eyes off oneself to the One who provides salvation and hope.
The Retreat centre | The Source
Modelled after the idea of God as the source of all, like a vine to its branches, the center is culmination and heart of the entire retreat.
The Journey | Sanctification
The transformation
The park offers diverse paths leading to a central hub. These paths symbolize the Christian journey of heart transformation, how, post-salvation, God molds you to resemble Him by producing these ‘Fruits’ in you. By going through the park, these values are tested and inspired in you.
Overview | Love
At the core of the site, symbolizing the ultimate fruit of love, the essential retreat facilities are hosted here to address profound socio-economic factors affecting well-being. Providing free services here embodies a love that expects nothing in return, pure, selfless and self-sacrificing, and maximally inspiring the themes joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control.
This section reflects the Christian narrative that God is love, offering hope in a broken world, being the ultimate place of rest and satisfaction.
