Issue 3
Sunday 4th September 2016
Time to wave goodbye to Wayne Thanks to the standard British weather the Campfire took place in The Lid. With the red, orange and yellow lighting the lack of fire was quickly forgiven. With renditions of the explosive version of Campfire’s Burning, 10 In the Bed and a very active version of My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean. The Lid was filled with raucous laughter as people recognised songs with different words and tried to work out which hand was left or right and how to hold their nose, ear and clap all at the
same time. As the campfire ended there was a mad dash to the International tent for the fiendishly hard quiz and the AGM Marquee for the ceilidh. The ceilidh ran into the night with much laughter as some people tried to establish which direction they were meant to be going in while others seemed to breeze through each dance with confidence. The Lid hosted the later evening entertainment provided by The Cassettes, rocking the roof well past
midnight with the jungle themed party goers dancing
the night away despite the on/ off rain showers.

Lisa’s Inspirational Scout Adventure
We met Lisa many years ago here at Gilwell. Over the past few months she has become a close friend. She has been on a Scouting adventure travelling to many camps, Jamborees and of course here at Gilwell. She has traveled to Ireland and has been welcomed by all, especially Larch Hill. She is also soon to be invested into the Irish Scout Association. She has been through a lot of ups and downs but still manages to keep a smile on her face, despite her ongoing health issues. Lisa, you are so inspiring to us and I hope you can be to many more people who cross your path. Never stop exploring. Love, Andrea and Claire
The top award of two countries Yesterday marked a special day for Matthew Bursley who received his Queen’s Scout Award, an amazing success in itself, however, Matthew is a little bit different as he is also an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America! We believe that he may be the first person to have received both awards! To finish his QSA Matthew gave his final presentation on site yesterday, telling his audience about his opportunity to hone his skills as photographer at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan as part of the onsite Newspaper Team and his Expedition along a section of the North Country Trail, the longest trail in North America! Having achieved both awards he is still deciding on his next adventure, but says he has spotted a few options at Reunion. Congratulations Matthew!

You tell us... “What is the most random thing you’ve seen at Reunion? The weirdest thing we’ve seen is Shrek walking round all weekend posing for photographs.

Friendship as nice as silver
Amy, Becca, Matt and Matt
There were a lot of very weird dance moves going on in (and out) of the Lid!
Emma The photo booth was filled with people dressed up as cowboys, Vikings and a Hawaiian theme.
Yasmine and Insaf
Let’s face it, pretty much everything has been weird this weekend!

Reunion is all about friendships, and for some they last lifetimes. The Silver Arrows are a fantastic example. The group have been meeting for many, many years and 2016 marks their 20th as a whole.
Jenga World Record Achieved The crowd sat with baited breath. The cameras were poised. Scouts, old and young looked on as Emily stepped forward to take on her attempt to become a world record holder. The skill involved in the removal of the most Jenga bricks (one-handed) in one minute may not be one of the records you see day to day – but Emily’s nimble-fingered attempt was a sight to behold. As the clock ticked over the one-minute mark, the adjudicators adjourned to make their decision… Success! What an achievement. She was very excited to have achieved the record. “It was great!” She explained. “I thought I’d give it a go, but I didn’t think I’d be a world record beater!” A very humble response!
As well as Emily’s Jenga speciality, attempts were made by many to catch the most tennis balls whilst blindfolded, and the quickest time to sort thirty crayons. Although there were no records broken there, it seemed like great fun. Well done to Emily and also to all those who made attempts.
Gilwell fact of the day
Highwayman Dick Turpin used the forest at Gilwell Park as his trapping place for London travellers
To be invested into the Silver Arrows you must have attended and camped with them at Reunion for three consecutive years. To celebrate their 20th year they invested honorary member Wanye Bulpitt!

Weather for the day
It’s going to be a cloudy day all day today, which should mean that you can get your tent down dry! Its going to feel muggy too, with heavy cloud cover and highs of 20oc. Safe travels on your way home!
AGM Bingo Bit of fun here people! There are four bingo cards across the newspapers. When one of the words is mentioned, cross it off. Fleur de Lis is a free space. We’re looking for a line of five across, down or diagonal.
