Joel Ogle ‘11 Millersville provided me with more opportunities than I ever could have imagined. I was able to study abroad and work for the Conservative Party in London, England. This experience was incredible and led me to my current work with the Pennsylvania state government. All these connections were made possible because of Millersville.
WHERE RURAL AND URBAN CONVERGE Millersville’s campus stretches over 250 scenic acres, graced by manicured lawns, towering oaks and pines, and our pond—famously watched over by swans Miller and S’ville. Just beyond campus are the rolling Amish farmlands of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. In this small-town, postcard-perfect setting, you’ll find a safe and warm community where “hellos” are comfortably exchanged and close friendships are easily formed. But when the mood strikes for a larger city experience, you can take your pick. Next door is the historic and vibrant city of Lancaster, a thriving business center and a hub of culture and entertainment with dozens of art venues, cafes, restaurants, shops and boutiques. If you are up for a short trip by car or rail, you’ll find yourself in any one of many major Mid-Atlantic cities.
Alex Dorshiemer ’12 Lancaster City has a lot of fun things to do. You can hear all kinds of music for free on Third Fridays. There are Saturday fireworks at Clipper Stadium, Central Market food vendors and all the unique shops along Queen Street. Plus, there’s the Fulton Theatre, with student rush tickets, and next to it is a great ice cream shop! Whatever you’re up for, it’s the perfect night out.

OUR PROFESSORS DIVE DEEPER Millersville’s professors are recognized leaders in their fields. What does that mean to you? An accomplished geneticist will lead your genetics course. A published author will teach your English class. And an experienced therapist will teach you psychology. You’ll be developing relationships with expert professors, not teaching assistants. Each year, marine biology students engage in hands-on research at the Marine Science Consortium at Wallops Island, Virginia, or study underwater life on dives to a pristine coral reef in Honduras. Millersville’s Robotics Team recently won the national Robotics Cup. Their champion Robot—SAM (Semi-Autonomous Marauder)— was the sole robotic vehicle to successfully move across a beach and autonomously detect and retrieve steel cylinders buried in the sand.
Adam Jacobs ‘12 After seeing the facilities and talking with several of the professors, I knew this place was right for me. At Millersville, faculty time and resources are geared towards undergraduates. I was able to get involved with faculty members doing research projects and inter-department jobs starting in my freshman year. All this is really going to help prepare me for graduate school and the future.
LEARNING BY EXPERIENCE Want to work on a TV production, help with fundraising for a nonprofit organization or set out across the Australian outback? At Millersville, you’ll learn theory in the classroom, and you’ll apply it in the “real” world. You’ll gain professional experience through internships—each year our students intern at more than 230 companies and organizations. You’ll have the opportunity to study abroad— our students travel to every corner of the world, from France, to South Africa, to Japan. National studies indicate that after completing an internship, students’ grades improve, as do their chances of getting hired. Our global education program is the recognized leader among public universities in Pennsylvania. Partnering with institutions around the world, we’re able to send students to nearly any country for a summer, a semester or an entire year.

Every individual has the capacity for leadership, and we work to develop that potential in our students. We connect them to national civic leaders as well as hands-on leadership initiatives ranging from urban revitalization, to sustainable agriculture, to health and nutrition imperatives.
In 2010, service learning work done by Millersville provided an estimated value of $2.8 million to the local community. The Corporation for National and Community Service ecognized Millersville with a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service to America’s communities. Last year, Millersville placed 10 students in week-long “in-residence” sessions in Washington, D.C., and Harrisburg, Pa., affording students opportunities to interact with representatives of state and federal government.

Conducting a food drive to fight hunger‌ During the past year, nearly 2,500 Millersville students participated in service-learning courses, providing more than 170,000 hours of service to the community. The level of student involvement outside of the classroom at Millersville is extraordinary, which is why we created the Student Involvement Transcript—an official record of each student’s activities, leadership experiences, accomplishments and contributions. It serves as an impressive supplement to our students’ resumes and academic transcripts when they apply for graduate school or employment. At Millersville, you can choose from more than 130 student clubs and organizations—from the Cycling Club and Roller Hockey, to the Entomology Club and Psychology Club, to the Film Club and Gospel Choir. Greek life at Millersville includes 10 sororities and eight fraternities, all providing a great balance of socializing, community service and opportunities for personal development.
A CULTURE OF CREATIVITY
Love music? Choose from a dozen ensembles—University Choir, Chamber Choir, University Chorale, Women’s Choir, Men’s Chorus, Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Bands, Marauder Marching Unit, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and West African Dance & Drum Ensemble. MUTV is Millersville’s on-campus cable station, giving you the handson opportunity to write, direct, produce or star in productions. Each year, students produce three main-stage theatrical shows, as well as several one-act plays and staged readings. We even have a professional costume shop on campus, home to the famous Loeb costume collection.
Student artists have their own exhibit space in the Swift Gallery, where they experience the feeling of a gallery showing. In nearby Lancaster, students enjoy the local art scene at First Fridays, where every month you can explore more than 70 arts venues. Millersville also recently established Millersville University-Lancaster, offering performance space and an arts outreach for the community.

Kerri Anderson ‘13 At Millersville I always have something to do. Being involved with the student-run musical organization, campus employment and the broadcast organization keeps me busy. The list of organizations on campus and off seems endless; there is something for everyone.

About 2,600 students live on Millersville’s campus, including all freshmen and sophomores not commuting from home. Organized programs and activities bring residents together and build a close sense of community.

Freshmen and sophomores live on campus in traditional residence halls, which are coed by wings/floors. Suite-style housing in Shenks and Reighard Halls is also available to incoming freshmen. Upperclassmen can select from a variety of options that are adjacent to campus or may choose to live in private housing.
In a recent campus survey, more than 90 percent of our students indicated they feel safe on campus. Student safety and security are always a top priority of the Millersville University Police Department. Important campus security features include: electronic card access, peripheral door alarms, fire alarms, smoke detection, sprinkler system, emergency blue phones/push stations, mass notification alert system, siren system, the MU Alert (text message system) and the campus Threat Assessment Team.
Living on campus means you’ll meet more people. And you’re more likely to get involved in campus activities. It’s also convenient, with nearby computer labs, dining halls, eateries, washers and dryers and vending machines. Cable TV and Internet/wifi are free. Plus, the shuttle bus service will take you anywhere on campus or off campus for shopping and other activities.
GO MARAUDERS! Millersville fields 22 varsity intercollegiate athletic teams that compete at the NCAA Division II level as part of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Marauders have a proud winning tradition, having achieved many conference and national championships.
Chris Edgar ‘12 Balancing athletics and academics can be challenging, but the coaches and the school give us a lot of support to be successful. They offer tutors to help you organize your studies and work in mandatory study halls, if you need them. My coach meets with me and my teammates regularly to keep track of our academic progress.

Marauders care just as much about the community as they do about winning. They raise money to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They mentor young athletes across the community. And they host “Parents Night Out, Sports Spectacular,” where parents can enjoy a night out while their kids have fun with Millersville athletes. Our student-athletes are winners on the field and in the classroom. For the fourth straight year, more than 100 Millersville athletes— from football, to field hockey, to track and field—were designated as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes.

In fact, in a recent survey of Millersville graduates, 97 percent reported that they were currently employed, and 75 percent reported that they were hired within three months of graduation.

The Four-Year Career Management Plan gives students clear, specific direction from the first year through graduation. To set this up, students meet with their advisors, set goals and explore majors and activities. With assistance from Millersville staff, students attend career fairs while they develop and update their resumes. Along the way, students sharpen their job search and interviewing skills. They plan meticulously for success—and, not surprisingly, they achieve it. When you graduate, you’ll join 58,000 Millersville alumni around the world.
