For 30 years Shropshire Review has been informing and entertaining its readers in the Bridgnorth district. Originally called Shropshire Review and Saver, the 32-page black and white magazine represented a breakthrough in the free publications market with its commitment to including quality editorial as well as informative advertising. The very first issue saw Richard Brookes look at the possible impact of the bypass which was under construction. Would it simply help tourists get around Bridgnorth as fast as possible to spend their money elsewhere? Or would it release the town from its ‘dreary bottlenecks’ and allow a vibrant tourist industry to develop? Fashions may have changed, businesses have come and gone, a bypass and even a relief road have been built, but Review is still going strong. And while those original copies may look a little dated now, it’s a formula which has served us well over three decades.
