Good news to the people of Kentucky! The Kentucky house has just approved free community college tuition plan to anybody who graduates home school, high school or receives their GED high school equivalency certificate. The state will cover their tuition attending up to six semesters but as long as they maintain a 2.0 grade point average. 15,000 – 18,000 students from Kentucky will benefit from this plan immediately with a cost of $20 million a year.
Everyone would be so glad to know that there is a bill like this, thousands of students will have a big smile on their faces once they acquire this college plan, well, i guess anybody that could get a free college plan would jump for joy. Parents would also be so happy to have their children go to college without them having to pay for fees. Being able to have a plan as something like this is a great opportunity for students that will absolutely give a big boost to them wanting to learn despite of being short on budget when it comes to paying for their tuition fees. They would have a better future because of the knowledge they gather in school, thanks to the community college tuition plan. The new program, dubbed Work Ready Kentucky Scholarships, does not replace other local, state and federal scholarship programs. Students must still apply for those. But this new program will pay for whatever cost those programs do not cover. To qualify, students must have a high school diploma or GED by the time they turn 19. They must enroll in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System immediately after high school, take at least 12 credit hours per semester and maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average. The bill moves on to the Kentucky senate for a vote and if passed it will go to the governor’s table. Kentucky has worked hard since 1990 to move up in education rankings across the country, spending big and innovating to rise from the bottom of the pile. The Great Recession has hit the state just like everywhere else, but the economy is growing
nicely. The budget won’t be final until April but with minimal funding needed for a large student impact, Work Ready could be up and running for fall 2016. We hope that this bill could pass through so that many will benefit from this plan. Being able to learn and go to school for free surely inspires students to study hard and be those people that reaches success and having their dreams come true. A big thanks and very huge appreciation to the people behind this bill should be given because they think of the future of the next generation and the generation that will come. Making Kentucky a state to be adored because of the bills they want to pass with good intentions and a heart for everyone. We hope for the best in everything and one of our prayers would soon be answered.
