Old School Comics presents…
“RAISING THE STAKES” You’ve been duped! This book isn’t what it seems. Yes, it’s a superhero comic, but its secret identity is something a bit more sarcastic and sinister. Chad Lambert is a deeply disturbed individual, and he definitely brings those demons into his work to create an unnerving and enjoyable non-generic-superhero superhero comic. Despite playing a Frog Brother on film (and co-owner of the worst comic book store in Santa Carla), I’m not a fan of generic superhero comics — which is why I love the Revisionist. From 2004-2008, Chad wrote these stories exclusively for Digital Webbing Presents, a grossly underrated anthology published during a time when anthologies weren’t cool. Chad’s plots were the same in every story: introduce stupid characters and kill them. Not exactly groundbreaking territory, but the creative execution is like poetry each and every time I read it. Is the Revisionist going to take your notion of the superhero comic and knock it on its ear? Probably not. Will you see the brilliance of it the way I did? I hope so, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I was pretty wasted when I read it. I also don’t read a lot of comics, so there’s a decent chance it’s complete crap. Regardless, it’s much more than your typical spandex vigilante adventure. It’s crime noir satire at its finest, and all five of these stories (as well as the rare two-page first appearance) are all under one cover for the very first time. But don’t judge this book by its cover. These stories may be “10 years gone,” but they hold up just as well as a certain vampire movie from our collective youth. And no, I’m not talking about fucking Twilight.
