ABOUT US For over 40 years NEILPRYDE has been at the cutting edge of developing high performance products that go fast.

ELEGANTLY ENGINEERED THE WILL TO WIN

INNOVATE OR DIE

It’s in our blood. We love competition, and more importantly, the thrill of crossing the line first. NEILPRYDE was established in 1970 as a result of our founder, Neil Pryde’s desire to develop cutting-edge equipment that would allow him to fulfil his Olympic dream. This competitive streak still runs throughout everything we do.

For over 40 years NEILPRYDE has been developing cutting edge products that have helped the world’s best athletes push the limits of their sport, set world records, win gold medals. We understand the importance of innovation, developing new technologies, exploring new materials and working closely with the best athletes. The process of “design, test, refine” is a never ending pursuit.

We know a thing or two about speed. About the precise science of aerodynamics. About developing cutting edge technologies. And the rush of handling a machine that defies logic. In 2011, NEILPRYDE applied this passion to the world of cycling, launching the ALIZE and DIABLO bikes, designed in collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. And now we take the next step...

ENGINEER AWARD WINNING PRODUCTS

WE RIDE

“Achieving the balance between form and function.” We’ve all heard this time and time again, but it’s true. Our goal with every bike is to incorporate innovative engineering solutions into a distinct, unique design. Collaborating with some of the most creative designers in the world, like BMW Group DesignworksUSA, and starting every new project with a fresh perspective and a clear vision leads to innovative design and bikes with a distinct silhouette.

Among the team behind NEILPRYDE Bikes there isn’t anyone who doesn’t have chain lube running through their veins. We ride! “The jump to cycling was a natural progression for NEILPRYDE,“ says Brand Manager, Mike Pryde. “As an experienced competitive cyclist with many years of racing behind me I was passionate about developing bikes that can both excel at pro level as well as be ridden by weekend warriors aspiring to climb the most demanding alpine passes or set their personal best time.”

TECHNOLOGY

Every bike starts with an idea. It comes from cyclists’ needs and from our desire to create more efficient and innovative bikes. We design, test and refine before concepts become reality. EXOSKELETON

Tubes, joints and transitions incorporate carbon fibre ribs and gussets in strategic locations for optimum power transfer and riding performance. Developed initially for the DIABLO, the Exoskeleton design has been further refined through finite element analysis and applied in specific locations on the new BURAsl.

OTP Aerodynamics

Tube profiles are optimised to reduce drag through a wide range of wind yaw angles and relative to the nature of the airflow at specific locations on the frame. Wider aerofoil profiles are utilised to achieve the balance between aerodynamics and stiffness. The unique profiles designed for the ALIZE have been further refined in the BAYAMO time trial frames.

OTP Stiffness

Optimised tube profiles developed using finite element analysis enable frame stiffness to be maximised in critical areas to ensure efficient power transfer.

OTP Lightweight

High stiffness? Check. Lightweight? Check. The tube profiles are designed to achieve the optimised balance between both characteristics. The result: the ultimate racing and climbing bikes.

OTP Comfort

Engineering a more compliant grade of carbon fibre into isolated regions of the frame ensures road vibrations are efficiently managed, resulting in a smooth ride.

Extended Kamm A truncated aerofoil design in the downtube combined with the unique seat tube profile keeps airflow smooth around lower portions of the frame. The result: a drag reducing design that allows a stiff bottom bracket, without the penalty of additional weight, to achieve the required power transfer.

C6.7 / C6.9

With over 25 years of experience of utilising carbon fibre in high performance products. NEILPRYDE has developed specific combinations of medium and high modulus uni-directional carbon fibres for our cutting edge race bikes. Specific 3K carbon is applied to high stress areas such as the bottom bracket and head tube.

QFIT

Incorporated into the seatpost collar, the QFIT designs allow for fast and precise adjustment to bike fit ensuring your saddle is always properly positioned.

6

ATHLETE COLLABORATION UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team Close contact with athletes has always been a critical component in NEILPRYDE’s ability to keep our finger on the pulse of innovation. In 2012 NEILPRYDE became the sponsor of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, recognised as the number one pro cycling team in the USA. This was an important step for NEILPRYDE, just one year after the launch of the ALIZE and DIABLO bikes. Our development process allows us to utilise the most advanced computational fluid dynamic techniques, finite element analysis, and extensive wind tunnel and laboratory testing. But real life happens outside the laboratory. And world class bikes are developed through thousands of kilometres of riding, under the best athletes, in the toughest races. The team’s valuable input into our research and design ensures we are constantly pushing the bondaries of innovation.

BURAsl

ROAD RACE SERIES

Introducing the stiff and ultralightweight BURAsl road bike. We know it’s not just about weight but what you do with it, too.

The BURAsl was performance engineered to achieve the highest stiffness to weight ratio, which ensures the most efficient and direct power transfer. And this happened to result in 710 grams of raw desire. The BURAsl front triangle is made from NEILPRYDE C6.9 uni-directional carbon fibre, the highest modulus suitable for bikes, and incorporates our proprietary Exoskeleton technology, first developed for the award winning DIABLO. Additional layers of directional 3K carbon are carefully applied by hand in the bottom bracket and head tube to increase power transfer and steering accuracy, respectively. External carbon fibre ribs integrated in the key joints of the monocoque front triangle ensure the BURAsl frame responds immediately each time you step on the power and jump for the sprint. Drawing on our 25-years of composites manufacturing experience, a new molding process was developed for forming the intricate head tube and seat tube joints, and bottom bracket.

The result: significantly improved control over the frame wall thickness and elimination of fibre wash during molding in the areas critical for achieving the desired frame performance. When engineering the rear triangle, a unique one-piece chain stay, drop out and seat stay mold was developed. This enabled the reduction in the number of bonds, while allowing for continuous strands of carbon fibre to be run through the rear triangle. Combining this unique design with the “chopstick” thin seat stays resulted in the perfect balance between power transfer and ride compliance. Carbon fibre front and rear drop outs, a PressFit 30 bottom bracket, and carbon headset cups further reduce the frame weight without sacrificing durability or performance. The BURAsl is available in two modules – either mechanical, compatible with external cable routing for the ultimate lightweight frame, or internal Di2 wiring for that ultra sleek look and dialed drive train shifting.

ALIZE

AERO ROAD SERIES

This isn’t just any race bike. It’s a very fast race bike. Or to be more specific, the archetype of aerodynamics in motion.

The ALIZE design reflects the balance between elegant engineering and insane speed, and draws on NEILPRYDE’s 40-years of experience working with the wind. Combining BMW Group DesignworksUSA’s computational fluid dynamics analysis and NEILPRYDE’s optimised tube profile techniques, where each tube, joint and transition are sculpted to manage airflow through a wide range of wind yaw angles, reducing drag while maintaining stiffness and assured handling you expect from a pro-level race bike. Wider tube profiles have been incorporated to delay flow separation and maintain torsional rigidity. The unique down tube morphs shape to manage both laminar and turbulent airflow, and the extended Kamm tail design creates an aerodynamic, lightweight and stiff bottom bracket. The optional 78°sl TT/Tri seatpost also easily transforms the ALIZE from a traditional road geometry to a triathlon or time

trial specific set up. Perfect, if you’re looking for one bike that can do it all. For 2013, the ALIZE has been further upgraded : • Dual compatible : full internal cabling, compatible with either mechanical or electronic shifting Increased power transfer : PressFit 30 bottom bracket and proprietary 1-piece chainstay/ dropout/seatstay construction • Decreased weight: carbon fibre dropouts and headset cups • Constructed from NEILPRYDE’s C6.7 uni-directional carbon fibre, the ALIZE frame weighs in at 1,020g (L/56cm), while specific carbon lay-up in the rear triangle ensures a more compliant ride than traditional aero road bikes. All this makes the ALIZE the perfect aero race bike if you like to breakaway from the peloton, tackle the longest of training rides or throw in the occasional triathlon... Just because you can.

BAYAMO

TIME TRIAL SERIES

Time trials are often referred to as the “race of truth”. Man and machine versus the elements.

At 40km/h, 80% of the rider’s effort is battling against wind resistance, often over undulating parcours. Grand tours, such as the Tour de France, are often won and lost in time tirals , and therefore, having the fastest machine can be the difference between winning the tour or standing on the second step. After a successful collaboration on the award winning ALIZE and DIABLO, NEILPRYDE partnered again with BMW Group DesignworksUSA on the biggest engineering and design challenge the teams had undertaken – the BAYAMO. The resulting design was developed using sophisticated computational fluid dynamic simulations, extensive wind tunnels testing, and feedback from the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team’s TT specialists. specialists. The BAYAMO incorporates many unique features found in aerodynamic theory, composite engineering and ergonomics. Concepts, developed and tested

during the evolution of the ALIZE, shaped the design of the unique Kamm tail aerofoil applied to the BAYAMO. A traditional aerofoil profile performs well at narrow yaw angles, but is inefficient at the wider yaw angles of up to 30° experienced by a rider during time trials and triathlons. The narrow profile and long trailing edge of a traditional aerofoil are also structurally unsuitable for withstanding the dynamic forces of a powerful rider.

24 The NEILPRYDE Kamm tail takes advantage of the phenomenon where the “tail of the aerofoil is truncated, cheating the wind into behaving like the truncated surface is still present. Therefore, drag is minimised. The subtle chamfered trailing edge also reduces turbulence at wider yaw angles, dramatically improving the aerodynamic performance. The profile of the NEILPRYDE Kamm tail aerofoil is also 10% wider than those found on other leading time trial bikes. This has the dual benefit of delaying flow separation, further reducing drag, and providing an inherent shape that is up to 60% stiffer than traditional aerofoils.

The result is a frame that balances the aerodynamic performance with stiffness to weight ratios necessary for a professional level race machine. The Kamm tail is seemlessly integrated into the trailing edges of the fork, seat tube and seat stays, further increasing stiffness to weight ratio and improving aerodynamics. Finally, every surface and transition was carefully considered to ensure turbulence between frame, wheels, components and rider were minimised at up to 30° yaw. The result: a cutting edge machine designed to win races at the highest level. A fusion of engineering, aerodynamics and ergonomics, with a healthy dose of aesthetics thrown in for good measure!
