Wing ONE at NAS Meridian, Miss., and Training Air Wing TWO at NAS Kingsville were the first two training air wings designated. Training Air Wing TWO was established on Aug. 1, 1971.

In 1992, the T45-A “Goshawk” aircraft was introduced as the sole training aircraft flown at Kingsville.

Approximately 1,900 people are now stationed at NAS Kingsville: 450 military members, an average of 150 student aviators and 975 civilian and contract employees. There are also about 250 U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the base.

NAS Kingsville property includes more than 18,000 acres of land at four locations in South Texas. The main station (NAS Kingsville) consists of nearly 4,000 acres including four 8,000-ft. Runways, four aviation hangars and 1.2 million sq. ft. of building space. Navy Auxiliary Landing Field (NALF) Orange Grove consists of 1,379 acres and two 8,000-ft. Runways while McMullen Target Range near Freer, Texas, consist of two target sites on 4,000 acres of Navy property. NAS Kingsville’s Escondido Ranch, located adjacent to the McMullen Target Range, consists of more than 6,500 acres.

RELOCATION

Navy families moving to Kingsville are encouraged to contact the Housing Service Center as soon as orders are received. Service Center personnel will assist you in locating suitable and affordable housing in the local area. The Service Center will also email “Welcome Aboard” information to you if you provide them your email address. The Service Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and can be reached by calling (361) 516-6498 or DSN 876-6498, or e-mailing: kingsville@housing.navy.mil.

Temporary quarters can be arranged by contacting the Bachelor Housing Office at (361) 516-6428 or DSN 876-6591. The combined officer and enlisted billeting office is open from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. An answering machine is available after duty hours.

Newcomers are also encouraged to contact the NAS Corpus Christi Personal Property Office as soon as possible after receiving orders to arrange shipment of household goods. Once shipment dates are known, contact the Personal Property Office to arrange storage or delivery of household goods.

SPONSOR ASSISTANCE

Preplanning is essential for newcomers moving to the Kingsville area. All new military personnel should hear from a gaining-command sponsor shortly after receiving orders. If not, contact your gaining command Administrative Office and ask for your sponsor's name and phone number. Your gaining command should also provide you with a mailing address where mail can be forwarded until a permanent address can be established.

Inform your sponsor of your planned arrival times so that reservations may be made for berthing in advance. Questions pertaining to check-in requirements can be addressed to the NAS Kingsville Admin Office by calling (361) 516-6288 or 516-6476 during normal work hours Monday through Friday. After hours, call (361) 774-5749.

PREPLANNING IS ESSENTIAL FOR NEWCOMERS MOVING TO THE KINGSVILLE AREA. ALL NEW MILITARY PERSONNEL SHOULD HEAR FROM A GAINING-COMMAND SPONSOR SHORTLY AFTER RECEIVING ORDERS. IF NOT, CONTACT YOUR GAINING COMMAND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE AND ASK FOR YOUR SPONSOR'S NAME AND PHONE NUMBER.

CHECK-IN

Newly reporting personnel are encouraged to check in before 4 p.m. at their prospective command headquarters building. Enlisted personnel reporting to the NAS Kingsville command should report to Building 2740, located on McCain Street. When arriving after duty hours, contact the NAS Kingsville Command Duty Officer (CDO) by calling (361) 438-6938. Personnel reporting to Training Air Wing TWO should report to the Student Control Office, Building 2741. Personnel are encouraged to check in before 9 p.m. when the billeting office closes. When arriving after normal duty hours, the NAS Kingsville Command Duty Officer (CDO) can stamp your orders. Notify the appropriate duty officer in advance that you will be arriving after normal working hours by calling (361) 438-6938. Once you arrive, ask the NAS Security Police Office (361- 516-6217) to notify the duty officer. The NAS Security Police Office is open 24-hours a day. Note: No Personnel Support Activity is available at NAS Kingsville. This service is provided at NAS Corpus Christi.

If you are arriving by POV, you will need to show the gate guard your military ID and orders upon entering the base. Be sure to have your driver's license, a copy of cur¬rent vehicle insurance and current vehicle registration papers.

Vehicle Registration / Pass & Tag Office

All newly reporting personnel must register their privately-owned vehicle with the Pass and Tag Office (361516-6555) within 30 days of checking aboard. Required documents include: (1) current driver's license; (2) military, dependent, or civilian employee ID card; (3) current state vehicle registration; (4) proof of current insurance; and (5) current motor vehicle inspection sticker (if required by the state where the vehicle is registered).

Motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters require all of the above documentation and proof of Motorcycle Safety Course completion. Safety gear requirements for motorcycle riders on base include a helmet with eye protection, hard-soled shoes with heels, long¬-sleeved shirts or jackets, longlegged trousers, full-fingered gloves, and an orange or yellow vest with reflective strips front and back.

Vehicle decals are issued from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Temporary passes are available from the Security Dispatch office outside of these hours.

The Pass and Tag Office at NAS Kingsville is located inside the Security Building. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The DEERS Office, for Identification Cards for military personnel and their dependents, civilian employees, retirees, and Reservists living in the Kingsville area, is also located inside the Security Building. Military and dependent IDs, DEERS enrollment, and civilian ID services are provided from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Firearms Registration

Firearms that fall into any of the following categories must be registered with the Security Department: Ÿ Firearms to be stored at the station armory. Ÿ Firearms to be utilized for hunting on station, Escondido Ranch, or at

NALF Orange Grove. Ÿ Firearms to be used at the station's small arms firing range.

Note: Firearms cannot be transported aboard the station without written approval from the Commanding Officer. See NASKINGSINST 8800.1 series.

HOUSING

On-Base Bachelor Housing Phone: (361) 516-6635 / DSN 876-6635

Reservations for on-base Bachelor Enlisted Quarters and Bachelor Officer Quarters can be made through the Combined Bachelor Housing Office. This office can be contacted 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays. An answering machine is available after¬ duty hours.

Bachelor Enlisted Quarters has accommodations for up to 98 enlisted men and women. Building 3740 is air-conditioned and contains a variety of beverage and snack food vending machines in the lounge areas.

Public Private Venture (PPV) Housing

One of the very first military installations to a test program to obtain quality housing through private contract, NAS Kingsville opened its first public private venture (PPV) housing site in 1997. Hawk's Landing features 102 units, Including 26 two-bedroom units and 76 three-bedroom units ranging from 1,030-to 1,207-square feet. Hawk's Landing is located about LS miles from the base.

On-site features include a community center, swimming pool, tot-lots, basketball and volleyball courts, soccer and ball fields, and the leasing office. Unit amenities include dishwashers, carpeting, extra closets, updated floor plans and other features of contemporary quality housing at affordable prices. Pets are permitted with certain restrictions and fees/ deposits.

Kingsville opened a second PPV property, Hunter's Cove, on Oct. 26, 2001. Located at 3400 S. Brahma Boulevard in Kingsville, Hunter 's Cove is conveniently located approximately three miles from the entrance to the air station.

Hunter's Cove is a gated townhouse community located between Highway 77 and Brahma Blvd. The complex consists of 150 units. There are 56

three-bedroom units with 1,447-square feet and 28 four-bedroom units with 1,477-square feet. Additionally there are 10 handicapped three- and four¬ bedroom units ranging from 1,274-square feet to 1,480-square feet.

On site features include a leasing office, community center, swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, and soccer and ball fields. Unit amenities include carpeting, dishwashers, free basic cable, back patios, and updated floor plans, providing affordable and suitable housing for military members and their families. Pets are permitted with certain restrictions and fees/ deposits.

Lease Information

Service members and their families residing in PPV complexes are responsible for certain utility expenses. Rent at Hawk's Landing is reviewed annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and rental increases go into effect when leases expire or when a change of rent has been warranted.

Hunters Cove rental costs are based on BAH and set at a market rent rate. Should a military family decide to opt for a Civilian Lease instead of a Military Lease there are separate requirements. The Housing Service Center can assist you with this decision of which type of lease to hold.

Initial leases are for six, nine or 12 months. Residents who do not renew their lease upon expiration are placed on a month-to-month lease with an increase in their monthly rental amount at Hawk's Landing, while Hunter's Cove will convert to a month-to¬-month lease until a new lease is signed. A "Military Clause" is honored with a 30-day written notice to vacate. If orders are not in hand, a 30-day written "notice to vacate" is still required and a copy of orders must be provided once they are received.
