Train Now in Healthcare • Course completed 100% Online • Hybrid of online and in-person instruction The following courses are offered by the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) in partnership with Reynolds and John Tyler Community Colleges. These courses offer flexible scheduling to allow job seekers to complete the course work in a few weeks and enter the workforce with industry-valued certifications.

First-Aid •

First-Aid certification teaches students how to handle situations on the “front line” of an emergency. An ability to respond quickly to injuries can save lives. This course teaches employees how to recognize everyday medical emergencies and care for an injury or illness until professional help arrives. 4 hours

Medical Coding – Certified Professional Coder •

Introduces class participants to the basic principles of coding for outpatient and physician services. Instruction will include beginning through advanced Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding. This certification is preparation for careers such as medical records technician or medical billing and coding specialist. 90 hours

Personal Care Aide (PCA) •

Program provides participants with online and hands-on instruction on how to assist patients with health-related daily living activities, patient transfers, nutrition, as well as oral and personal hygiene. This program is a total of 40 hours: 32 hours of online instruction and eight hours of in-person, handson training. The training follows the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) curriculum for home health and hospice workers. This program is also accepted by Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) for direct patient care staff in licensed assisted-living facilities. 40 hours

Pharmacy Technician Program •

* These programs are part of Fast Forward. Financial assistance available for income-eligible residents.

This program will prepare participants to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board examination. Graduates may pursue a career in a drug store, hospital or other medical facility. 50 hours

Release of Health Information Specialist •

Emergency Medical Technician •

Designed to provide the technical knowledge and skills needed for employment as a release of health information specialist, who assemble, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in a manner consistent with administrative, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Duties could include retrieving patient medical records, protecting the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained and released according to regulations. 7 courses

Advanced Medical Record Coder •

Note: In certain pathways, prior convictions may prohibit employment or clinical placement. Background testing, drug testing and a preemployment physical may be required for placement into many healthcare professions. Some companies may have minimum age requirements for select positions.

Reynolds Community College offers more than a dozen health professions programs and the ones below can be finished in one academic year. These courses are designed for working adults and parents who need part-time options and credits towards college certificates and degrees. Some programs may qualify for Financial Aid.

This program prepares students to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) at the entry level. This program offers several scheduling options for students. 6 courses

Designed to provide the technical knowledge and skills needed for employment as an advanced medical coder. The coursework for the advanced level will equip students to work in medical records and offer an opportunity for existing coders to further their management, supervisory, auditing, or alternative coding skills. Graduates work in hospitals, doctor’s offices and government agencies. Must be a certified medical coder to take this program. 5 courses

Pharmacy Technician •

Designed to prepare students to assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. Students will obtain a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice and are skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, prepare, and dispense medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in a retail or hospital setting. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board examination to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician. 6 courses

Train Now in Information Systems Technology • Course completed 100% Online • Hybrid of online and in-person instruction CompTIA A+ (Computer Repair Technician) •

Offered by the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) in partnership with Reynolds and John Tyler Community Colleges, the program fulfills the requirements of the official CompTIA training curriculum, preparing participants to become CompTIA-certified. This credential represents the IT industry’s acknowledgment of participants’ technical skills and competencies related to computer repair and computer information technologies. This course covers the key terminology and concepts needed to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. 40 hours

Computer Aided-Design Specialist •

The rapidly evolving field of computer technology has had a dramatic impact on the architectural/engineering professions, meeting the contemporary graphic needs of architectural and industrial design firms. This program provides the student with thorough training in two-and three-dimensional computer graphics, including studies in visualization and animation. 7 courses

Computer Applications •

This program provides students with a broad foundation in application software most frequently used in manufacturing and service businesses. Equally important, students will expand information literacy skills so you can sift through facts, opinions, theories, and raw data. Students will use computer application software to develop business applications and prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams for Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Graduates may find employment as computer network specialists, information technology consultants, network engineers, and network support specialists. 9 courses

Keep Going Reynolds Community College offers continuing studies in Information Systems, through the following career studies certificates. These programs fulfill requirements toward the Information Systems Associate of Applied Science (AAS), a two-year degree, and are part of Reynolds’ semester offerings. Some programs may qualify for Financial Aid.

Computer Programming •

Prepares students to design and implement traditional/legacy stand-alone and client-server applications using procedural and object-oriented development techniques and prepares students for the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer Certification. Graduates work as computer programmers and software developers for applications. 8 courses

Cyber Security •

Provides instruction in Information Security and prepares students to recognize and prevent threats to data, information systems, and to master techniques for defense against such attacks and to earn CompTIA+ Certification. Graduates work as a computer network architect, database administrator or an information systems analyst. 8 courses

Network Administration •

Provides students with a broad background in networking technologies, administration, and embeds support to prepare students for the CompTIA A+ Certification and the CompTIA Network+ Certification. Students should complete the A+ Certification before the Network+ Certification. Graduates are employed as network administrators or computer network support specialists. 9 courses

Web Development •

Provides knowledge and skills for the creation and management of well-designed and well-organized Web sites. Prepares students for the CIW Associate Certification and CIW Associate Design Specialist Certifications. Graduates are employed as web developers. 9 courses

Train Now in Business Courses completed 100% Online National Retail Federation (NRF) Certification in Customer Service and Sales Offered by the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) in partnership with Reynolds and John Tyler Community Colleges, this course offers flexible scheduling that allows job seekers to complete in weeks with an industry valued certification. The National Retail Federation (NRF) Certification in Customer Service and Sales is designed to teach the core duties for a broad range of entry-level through first-line supervisory positions across sales and service industries. This certification is industry-driven and helps employers distinguish and recognize qualified customer service professionals. With the dramatic increase in online sales, an increasing number of companies are hiring virtual customer service representatives with the skill sets this class provides. 36 hours 8

Entrepreneurship in Small Business This Reynolds Community College program is designed for persons who wish to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to organize and manage a small business. This program addresses management concerns unique to small businesses, including organizational structure, marketing plans, financial analysis, tax requirements, legal issues, and computer applications. Financial aid may be available. 8 courses


Train Now in Public Safety Courses completed 100% Online The Emergency Telecommunicator Certification Offered by the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) in partnership with Reynolds and John Tyler Community Colleges, this course offers flexible scheduling that allows job seekers to complete in weeks with an industry valued certification. This program is designed to familiarize students with emergency communication centers, emergency telecommunication technology, interpersonal communication, legal issues, and job stress factors related to work as a 9-1-1 operator. 40 hours

Criminal Justice The Reynolds Community College Criminal Justice career studies certificate program provides an overview of criminal justice and basic police officer training for those who have an interest in understanding societal issues associated with crime and the work performed by criminal justice professionals. Students examine various approaches to understanding crime, including maintaining law and order, police-citizen conflict, crime prevention, collecting evidence, conducting criminal investigations, the juvenile justice system, and the interface between police and other criminal agencies. Graduates of this career studies certificate may apply the courses completed to the Administration of Justice AAS degree. Financial Aid may be available. 6 courses

Lean Manufacturing Practitioner •

Learn how to improve processes by applying the most important Lean Six Sigma principles, methods, and tools in the field. The course also includes a hands-on simulation and project development. 24 hours

Manufacturing Technician Certification •

The Manufacturing Technician Level 1 (MT1) certification program was developed to meet the growing employment demands of the manufacturing industry. The MT1 program addresses the core industry-wide skills standards required for skilled production occupations in all sectors of manufacturing. The core competency areas certified are: (1) Math and Measurement, (2) Spatial Reasoning and Manufacturing Technology, and (3) Business Acumen and Quality. A growing number of regional companies use the MT1 as part of their apprentice programs. 60 hours

NCCER Core Construction Certification •

The NCCER Core Construction certification program is required before enrolling in all other Level 1 craft curricula, including CCWA’s electrician, HVAC, and heavy equipment operator programs. Its modules cover topics such as safety, basic construction and introduction to construction drawings. Completing this program gives the trainee the basic skills needed to continue education in further craft areas and to work as a general laborer on a construction site. 50 hours

NCCER Electrician 1 Certification •

The NCCER Electrician 1 certification program covers topics such as Orientation to the Electrical Trade, Electrical Safety, Electrical Circuits, Electrical Theory, National Electrical Code, Device Boxes, Raceways, Fittings, Conduit, Conductors and Cables, Fasteners and Anchors, Basic Electrical Construction Drawings, Residential Electrical Services, and Electrical Test Equipment. 74 hours

NCCER Heavy Equipment Operator Certification •

Gain an understanding of heavy equipment terminology, safety, operations and of grade surfaces in this short-term class incorporating simulators to prepare students for positions in the construction field. Endorsed by the Heavy Construction Contractors Association (HCCA) and Virginia 811 (VA811). 88 hours

NCCER HVAC 1 Certification •

The NCCER HVAC 1 certification teaches HVAC Field Calculations, Basic Electricity, Basic Heating and Cooling Systems, including test preparation for the EPA-608 refrigerant certification exam for jobs in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industries. 74 hours

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Certification •

The OSHA 10 General & Construction certifications teaches safety awareness and helps each worker recognize and reduce the risks of job site hazards. It teaches OSHA standards and covers safety and health hazards workers may face on job sites. 10 hours

Welding Career Studies Certificate •

Employment opportunities exist for students proficient in welding technology. The program is designed for students with no previous experience in welding. Graduates are able to earn an AWS welding certification. 7 courses

Designed to train individuals for employment in express service light repair and maintenance positions at dealerships and independent repair shops. The curriculum covers both theory and shop training with an emphasis on service and minor repair. Students will work as mechanics, service advisors, parts clerk or service writer with skills in vehicle systems. Completers can perform basic diagnostics to determine proper system functioning. Credits are applicable toward the Automotive Technology Certificate. 5 courses

Certified Logistics Associate Certification •

Diesel Mechanics Technology Certificate •

The Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) course provides access to career opportunities in the Greater Richmond Region for full-time warehousing and supply distribution jobs. The CLA certification includes such topics as safety, quality control, supply chain management, receiving, storage, communication, and more. 24 hours

Certified Logistics Technician Certification •

The Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) recognize through certification, individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of material handling at the front-line (entry-level to front-line supervisor) through successful completion of the certification assessments. The goal of the CLT certification program is to raise the level of performance of logistics technicians both to assist the individuals in finding higherwage jobs and to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company’s productivity and competitiveness. 30 hours

Truck Driver Training (CDL) •

The Truck Driver Training (CDL) program will provide the skills and opportunities needed to be successful in a truck driving career. This course will prepare program completers and place them into local, regional and over-the-road jobs driving Class A commercial motor vehicles. Following 80 hours of online instruction, students will complete hands-on, on-the-road instruction in a commercial truck. Four weeks: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Automotive and Maintenance Light Repair •

A two-semester certificate designed to introduce the fundamentals of diesel equipment repair and provide instruction in hydraulic systems, welding, diesel engine overhaul and tune-up, electrical circuits, power train maintenance, and fuel injection. The program provides graduates a practical background in basic diesel equipment technology principles. The curriculum provides practical training and the option of on-the-job experience through cooperative education. 12 courses

CareerStart Courses completed 100% Online Offered through the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) the CareerStart program is designed to help individuals who are unemployed or underemployed get started or start again on a pathway to a well-paying career through career exploration, education, training and certifications. This program introduces students to online learning platforms utilizing progressive instruction to develop and build digital confidence and proficiency.

CareerStart National Retail Federation (NRF) Certification The CareerStart National Retail Federation (NRF) Certification in Customer Service and Sales utilizes a video platform for instructor/student interaction and lectures combined with online instructional modules. Instruction is delivered through integrated education and training which blends industry training with Adult Basic Education (Reading, Writing, and Math). Academic support is combined with the instructional program to weave in work-readiness skills, financial literacy, digital literacy, career exploration and career coaching as well as preparation for the customer service certification. FREE (55 hours)

CareerStart GED CareerStart GED instruction utilizes a video platform for instructor/student interaction and lectures combined with online instructional modules. Academic instruction is combined with an instructional program that weaves in work-readiness skills, financial literacy, digital literacy, career exploration and career coaching. GED Ready testing is utilized to determine readiness to progress to take the official GED exams. FREE (7.5 hours)

Job Skills Improvement Courses completed 100% Online Constructive Conflict Resolution Conflict is part of our daily lives; however, it can be a growth opportunity. With the right tools and frame of mind, you can resolve conflicts in a way that benefits everyone involved. Once people understand conflict and how to more effectively manage it, fear and avoidance can disappear, while personal growth and productivity expand. This workshop covers more productive conflict resolution techniques, starting with how to identify your own conflict reaction style through creating conflict solutions that all parties can support. 6 hours

Excel Overview Workshop Series This workshop series is an overview of some of Excel’s most popular features including formulas and functions, charts, PivotTables and formatting a document for printing. No knowledge of Excel is required. 4 hours

Introduction to G Suite (Google) Workshop Series The workshop series covers file management and sharing files using Google Drive, an overview of Google Docs and Google Sheets, and how to collaborate and edit documents with others using G Suite. You must create a free Gmail email account for this class. 4 hours

Making the Move to Supervisor This workshop serves to establish a shared belief system for what constitutes supervisory responsibilities. For experienced managers, this class allows participants to identify missed opportunities in establishing their supervisory relationships, so that more experienced supervisors can build onto what they already have accomplished. For new supervisors, this session allows participants to start their management assignments with a realistic preview of what is to come and what they need to immediately start doing as supervisors. 6 hours

Microsoft Office Tips Workshop Series This workshop series is designed to increase your efficiency in Microsoft Office by learning some time-saving tips! Navigation and selection shortcuts, keyboard shortcuts, formatting shortcuts and tricks for reducing repetitive tasks are covered. 4 hours

Word-Power Formatting and Automating Tasks Workshop This workshop series is designed to increase your efficiency in Word by using some of Word’s automated features such as sections, styles, forms, and macros. This workshop is designed for someone who wants to become a Word power user and create complex documents quickly. Basic knowledge of Word is required. 4 hours

Grant Proposal Writing 101 This workshop explores the basics of writing proposals for government, corporate, and foundation grants. Participants will learn where to find grant opportunities and how to write WINNING proposals as a useful resource to build programs and services for their organizations. 6 hours
