CRAFTSMANSHIP We at Reynolds Cycling believe in craftsmanship and building nothing but the finest quality wheels. The process starts at our facility in Sandy, Utah, where our team defines the goals for every project. Once we have identified the priorities for any given wheel, our group of aerospace engineers sets out to define the optimal rim dimensions and carbon layup to support the objectives. Only after designs have endured all scrutiny in computational software do we set about opening the first molds. When the molds are finished, the next stage of the process begins. Our uniquely specified carbon fiber is laid out and painstakingly cut. Special care is taken to ensure that every last piece of fiber is correctly oriented in the mold. The resulting rim is nearly flawless and requires little finishing before wheel assembly. The wheel assembly process is the final step. All the carefully selected components— hubs, spokes and nipples—are mated to the finished rims by our team of trained builders to exacting specifications. Every wheel that is boxed and shipped from Reynolds stands up to our rigorous standards of design, engineering, durability and ride quality. We stake our reputation on it.

New AERO
Versatility
Our new AERO rim profiles improve upon the strengths of our already stellar performing DET™ designs and we complement these with additional new features to offer the most versatile, aerodynamic wheels on the market. Wind tunnel testing confirms that our DET™ profile optimizations near the leading edge and spoke face minimize drag inducing fluid separation from the rim surface. The improved profile shapes provide a drag reduction of 4-5 Watts over our previous AERO wheels at apparent wind speeds approaching 30 kph, and also generate a more even pressure distribution over the entire rim surface. This enhancement yields increased stability over a wider range of riding conditions, translating to lower steering input and improved crosswind performance.
A further advantage of the new profiles is their tire option versatility. Our new AERO rim profiles are designed to accommodate larger tires without degrading aerodynamic performance. The 19mm tubeless ready tire channels and new rim shapes result in nearly identical lift/drag numbers through a range of tire sizes. Riders are free to choose tires for lowest rolling resistance and their own preferred ride quality, and still enjoy all the aerodynamic benefits the rims offer. Our new precision hubs also improve ride quality over our previous AERO line. The wider flange spacing and resulting spoke bracing angles boost lateral stiffness for better control, crisp acceleration and enhanced durability. The new hub internals feature silky smooth, durable bearings by Enduro which minimize rolling resistance and provide a nearly effortless feel on the road. Equally important to aerodynamics and ride quality is safe and reliable braking. Disc brakes set the standard for speed modulation and outright power, so we’ve dedicated center lock compatible disc brake models to deliver the ultimate braking performance. For non-disc wheels, we’ve updated our brake track construction with an incredibly heat resistant High TG resin. This new method improves upon our pre-existing CTg technology in providing industry leading brake heat management, and overall braking performance in all conditions.

Methodology
We source only the highest quality aerospace-grade carbon fiber from Mitsubishi in Japan. Each batch is certified according to our strict specifications, and we dictate numerous combinations of fiber, epoxy, and resin, each destined for use in a different region of the rim.
We are scientific and uncompromising in building our wheels. Two principles guide us: Hybrid Modulus Laminate (HML) and Variable Resin Chemistry (VRC). We examine the unique, complex, and dynamic forces acting on every part of the wheel and rim, and precisely assign unique carbon fiber lay-ups and resins to the separate regions. There is no such thing as ‘one composite fits all’.
Our carbon fiber is pre-pregnated with epoxy in the U.S. and frozen for transport to our company-owned facility in China, where storage is temperature and date controlled to ensure the integrity of the materials. Each batch is inspected and certified according to our high standards.

Our exclusive molding process is called Inert Gas Compaction (IGC). We use an inert gas compound under very high pressure to aid the chemical synthesis of our resin system. Unlike other molding methods, IGC ensures that we create an optimally durable rim that will not soften or lose structure as it ages.
CR6 (Carbon Rim 6 Technology) CR6 (Carbon Rim 6) is a proprietary engineering solution for durability, strength and stiffness. CR6 is based on unique lay-ups of carbon fiber for each of six critical areas of the rim: the sidewall, spoke face, nipple bed, tire channel, rim hook bead and brake track. CR6 is a proprietary hybrid carbon layup (HML) combined with variable resin chemistry (VRC) and inert gas compaction (IGC).

pR3 (Performance Rim 3 Technology) PR3 (Performance Rim 3) is the precise method of assigning different carbon fiber lay-ups to these three rim regions: the rim profile, rim hook bead and brake track. Reynolds specifies fiber type and orientation, adjusting the specs to achieve the perfect tensile strength, stiffness and elongation for each rim model. Each batch is certified according to Reynolds’ specifications.

DET™ Dispersive Effect Termination The DET™ airfoil rim design smooths turbulent, energized airflow and re-attaches it to the rim surface, effectively reducing aerodynamic drag. In the real world, wind is omnipresent, affecting bike handling, aerodynamic drag and yaw angles. With Reynolds DETTM, the side forces associated with a crosswind are minimized and more consistent over a wider range of angles, resulting in improved handling and unmatched steering stability. Developed using CFD and validated in the wind tunnel, Reynolds DET™ also delays aerodynamic stall, characterized by a sudden reduction in lift, and thus improves the wheel’s overall performance window relative to yaw. This window is 32% bigger than any of our competitors’ wheels, in effect providing a larger ‘sweet spot’ of aerodynamic benefit to the cyclist.
SLG Swirl Lip Generator® The original Swirl Lip Generator® (SLG) is a 0.9mm ‘lip’ strategically placed on the sidewall of the rim near the spoke face. First introduced and wind tunnel tested on the RZR® 46 and RZR® 46 Team, A2 Wind Tunnel testing demonstrated that the Swirl Lip Generator® reduces drag so effectively, that a racer can save 12.5 seconds over a distance of 40 kilometers. SLG effectively helps re-attach turbulent air to the spoke face after flowing over the spinning rim. It also decreases the side force acting on the rim, further reducing both turbulence and drag. At a yaw angle of 10 degrees, SLG drag reduction is validated to be 20% (A2 Wind Tunnel Tests, 02/2011). The newer Enhanced SLG (Swirl Lip Generator®) utilizes a lip that is 8x larger than the original SLG, offering a 35% aerodynamic performance improvement as demonstrated by CFD.

CTG BRAKING SYSTEM Designed as a fully integrated system, Cryogenic Glass Transition, CTg, is Reynolds’ patented carbon fiber rim-and-brake pad pairing that allows Reynolds wheels to run up to 53% cooler than standard, non-CTg rim-andpad combinations. CTg ensures smooth, predictable braking performance, enhanced safety, and industry-leading dependability.
In thermal image testing conducted at the Reynolds Composite Studio, a Fluke Ti32 Thermal Imager, clearly demonstrated that CTg Brake Tracks and CryoBlue Power Pads work in tandem to effectively mitigate heat build up in the rim. Cooler rim temperatures benefit the rider through more braking power, better modulation and improved rim durability in every situation.
CTG BRAKE TRACK Unlike other brands that order materials off-the-shelf, Reynolds formulates its own proprietary carbon fiber laminates and specifies only the highest grades of resin systems for its rims. With this superior inventory of unique carbon fiber lay-ups and high-performance resins, Reynolds engineers arrange laminates in optimized layers to create the CTg brake track. These layers extend into the rim, effectively creating a heat sink. Heat dissipates away from the surface, to be cooled by the passing air..
CRYO-BLUE POWER BRAKE PADS Reynolds co-engineered our Cryo-Blue Power Brake Pads with industry brake technology leader, Brakco, to give you increased stopping power. The sleek, tapered aerodynamic design offers a 44% larger braking surface than Reynolds’ original Cryo-Blue brake pads. There are six angled slots that serve not only to move air through for additional cooling, but also to act as siphon channels, removing water from the brake track for superior braking in wet conditions.
BRAKE WEAR INDICATOR The Brake Wear Indicator, BWI, is a 10mm wide red line that Reynolds embeds into the brake track. The indicator, centered over the valve hole on both sides of the rim, becomes visible only when excessive wear has occurred, thus indicating that the wheel should be retired from service.
