Luar Batang Fish Market, North Jakarta (Best 20 Projects Studio VII, previewed in SKETSA magazine issue #28) Sunda Kelapa was one of the most influental city which led the forming of Jakarta we knew today, extending to became the biggest city in terms of development in Indonesia. While its also forms a cultural affections to the present city, this area also act as a performing scenery of the culture itself, the fish market. The fish market, resounding the historical nodes, the trading activities that made up the face of the old city of Batavia. Due to the ever-changing environment, and prior to the VOC downfall, its started to lose its identity, and slowly also left behind by the recent government. Furtherly, its function gradually changed as the fish market moved to another potential areas. But as it was said, the culture still there, the needs still in there, and the historical fact of the area’s strength point remains the highest, so bring back the history should create the same value as well as reviving the culture, cultivating the culture itself.

while the canal waterfront enhances the ambience of maritime tourism, its also create a new public shared space.
the auctioning space will transform into a public space program while its changes back to be the auctioning plaza in the dawn.
the use of natural light and air circulation also makes the corridor-like market space to be comfortable whilst also sweep off the smell of the fishes, etc.
the main purpose of this project is to embrace the interaction space of the maritime-tourism area, creating a distortion of land-sea area, the in-between, and therefore cultivating the culture from the people inside and outside

the form is based on experiments in models and study of urban fabric
the inspiration come by the observation of the historical site and how it could come together with the present urban scenery

Rumah Sanggar Palbatu, Jl. Palbatu IV / 14, Tebet, South Jakarta (collaboration with Kurniawan Wijaya) Kampung Palbatu, located in Tebet, Jakarta. Famously recorded in MURI (Record Museum of Indonesia) for the longest street Batik mural, the Batik mural stretched to 133.9 m, allowing the public to recognise this kampung as Kampung Batik. Unfortunately, post the events, Batik never exposed thoroughly in terms of the process, leaving the culture itself in a stagnation. Therefore, we proposed to modify one of the houses there into a prototype-esque house for mixed-use purpose. The house will try to accomodate the privacy of the owner, production house, a gallery, and furthermore, create an awareness to cultivate the Batik culture itself inside the kampung. Within a dimesion of 8m x 12.5m and a FAR of 60%, the whole function had to be integrated in 1 unit.

RT 5 Development, Tomang Pulo (3rd Place Workshop HUT SKETSA 25, collaboration with Matthew Aditya, Ronald Winarta, Antonius Tan, Natasha Sudewo) Kampung Tomang Pulo has been conducted with demolition issues throughout the year. While it’s already exposed to the public, the concerns still there. Not only that, a rob issue always resurfaces, yet it seems unsolvable. By the chances offered, there is a solution which the architects could be the one who take the role, together with other disciplines, to solve this problems. This proposal of Kampung Tomang Pulo would be one of them.

Guggenheim Museum, Helsinki, Finlandia (collaboration with Gratio Ray, Kevin Yamaputra, Antonius Tan, Matthew Aditya, Antonius Tan, Ronald Winarta, Denny Husin) “No valley, no hill, no water, shore more dear than this northern homeland, precious land of our fathers.” From “Maame” (Our Land), Finland National Anthem Finland, blessed with enormous natural landscape, embraces its treasure by honoring the sublimity of its landscape. Mueum’s evolution has transformed its morphological structure through times, reconstructing its opennes and civicness though still being questioned In this era, museum has become more interactive in establishing dialectic relationship with nature as its geographical setting. The embryo of Museum Landscape is grown from a combination between city’s grid investigation and the pattern of the park, forming an urban hub as the dialectic relationship between the two. The building is shaped to form a blending geometric pattern from the city and organi pattern of the landscape, establishing harmonized composition between massing and its topography. This artificial landscape creates a continous fabric, it is injected by various programme, facilitating public with cross-activities.

Extension of Jakarta Maritime Museum, North Jakarta Jakarta Maritime Museum had just been establisehd in 1977, while it holds a longer period of time of exixtence. Used to be one of Dutch-East-Indie Company Building back on the colonialism era, this museum holds a spices that were stored by the company for market purpose. While it has gone several improvements, it seems that the essence once envisioned for this museum has been lost and ineffective throughout the way. One major condition is that the whole complex is not developed as one integration units, which i think will effectively catalyzing the museum itself. Therefore, the addition of programs in the collapsed building on the area which the museum stood will be the focus. While the main museum still maintaining its purpose holding one of the biggest maritime collections, the additional building will focus on the practical way, to inform the legacy of the boat makers, which will be the main hall. Also, the whole units will be integrated by improved social structures and public spaces to support the museum programs and accesibilities.
