Dear RFD and friends: I thought that we were forgotten here, thank you for writing. Many of us are out of solitary now after a long joint strike that removed the warden and his associate. Much change is going on, and we are now the Prisoners Justice Commit tee. Your support is v ita l. We are well and growing here, I am fine. Havn't time to really write. Energy is import ant this week in other areas so please forgive me for this short one, write me again and te ll me a ll will you? Stamps I need to answer.

As the above two letters show, we at RFD are cauqht up in a struaale with our comrades at Akwesasne Notes. Feeling that we were not, and would not, aettina anywhere alone we decided to invite other friends into the dialogue. So we sent copies of the above letters to 33 people/orgamzations/media friends who we felt might be helpful to the situation. We chose who'to send to and involve from previous records of anti-sexism and/or anti-racism. We want Akwesasne Notes to re-analyze their attitudes towards homosexuality, our "type of behavior". We feel that the service that Akwesasne Notes is involved in is invaluable, we support Native American rinhts and self-determination, but not at the expense of lesbians and gay men, includinq those within the tribes themselves. We would like to see this struggle resolved in order to move on to oreater struggles, in unity. The following folks have received copies of the letters. Native American Solidarity Committee (3 branches), Golden Lance/Native American Council of Nations, Gay American Indians, American Indian Movement, National Indian Brotherhood, American Indian Media Directory/American Indian Press Association, Wounded Knee Legal Defense/Offense Committee, National Indian Education Association, Ganienkeh Newsletter/Ganienkeh Indian Project Indigena, American Indian Historical Society, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Maurice Kenny, Arthur Fvans, Allen Young, Bruce Boone, Open Road, Win magazine, Michigan Freo Press, Northwest Passage, Portn ^ A ^ Crnkei’ ^3n Community News» Fag Rag, Gay Sunshine, Body Politic, Hundred Flowers, Makara, Off Our Backs, Bay Area Gay Liberation, New American Movement, Theatre Games, Moonbrothers.

.(& Dear Brothers: I'm in my 8th year of living in the green state of Virqinia. I have been makina a livina, payina my mortgage and enjoying life in its simplicity. I have managed to keep the wolf from my door by breedina and showina, and as a result, selling fancy Bantams, geese, swans, various breeds of domestic and legally kept wild stock. I also raise and show canaries and various small cage birds, parrots, cocatiels, etc. If any of you folks out there would like some info on what I consider to be a profitable hobby, drop me a line and I'll be more than happy to answer you. If anyone is planning on coming to Virginia, drop me a line and if the house isn't too full, you'd be welcome. Send self-addres sed, stamped envelope for a list of breeds and prices. I have Silkies, Games, Frizzles, Sea brights, Japanese and many more. In Brotherhood, Bob Theodore, Rt. #1, Box 282, Charlotte C.H. 23923, VA. (t? My lover and I live in Renton Washington, a small town with desirable topographical features such as rollino hills, lakes, and rivers. There is also enough land for relaxation with the convenience of beina near the economic and cultur al necessities of Seattle. Until recently there was little concern about other aa.y people living or working in Renton. However, since the Renton Human Rights Commission refused to include gay people in their equal riqhts ordinance, it has become a matter of great concern. We would like to hear from other gay people in Renton. Bob Bennett, 706 North 29th Street, Renton 98055, WA. 0 $ I left banking and accounting ten years ago to clear sagebrush on a piece of auction land, and just last Sunday at 2pm
we finished this year's harvest of 13,000 boxes of Goldens and Red Delicious apples. I've screwed ur) by not latching onto a lover along the way...doing all this completely alone (while working a Seattle warehouse job for funds on week ends, this place is 210 miles away), and now it's finally paying off. So I can write a letter for your magazine in hope that some of the replies might line me up with someone appreciative and compatible? I've done the hard work...now I need someone to cuddle with at night and have dinner with and share the work and the ample rewards. The view of the Columbia and the valley area from my 40 acres, you wouldn't believe!! Thanks, Orvan Storlie, Rt. 1, Box 60-C, Brewster 98812, WA.
Dear Friends of RFD, I've just moved here from Missouri to work as a copyeditor for a newspaper. That is a whole story in itself which I choose not to go into. I've left all my friends, or all but a few, back in Missouri. I am here to learn something and as soon as I have fulfilled that need, I suspect I will move on. While I'm here, though, I would like to hear from any people in the area who might by some miraculous chance read this magazine. Mississippi is a lonely place right now, and I would appreciate hearing from anyone who wants to share time by writing. I grew up in Mis sissippi, surprising even to me, at present. I have not lived here since I was barely 18 in1969. I have grown u and the place is a stranger to me. At timesa foreboding stranger, but it has turned out to be something I need to do. I want to see for myself what it's like here. Thank you for your magazine. Dennis or Jack in Fayetteville, drop me a line. Kinsey Lowe, 530 Sykes Road, Jackson 39212, MS. We are two homesteaders who escaped from the big city to start on our own. We live in Berkeley Springs West Virginia, on a ten acre farm. We are looking for friends and neighbors around the area who are into growing good food, music and just laying back and enjoying the good life of the country. We don't eat meat, but intend to raise pigs and chickens to sell. Jim my lover, friend and partner is into raising flowers, birds, good with crafts, and enjoys music. I also like music and can play a couple of instruments, and do some writing. I play guitar and piano. We would like to hear from someone who would like to come out and visit and say hello and get to know other gay people, if there are any around here, and we can trade ideas, goods, and have some fun. Please write and say hello, or if you would like, stop by. Look forward to meeting some other F.F.'s (faggot farmers). P.S. If it makes any difference we are bearded and long haired boogie children. Love and bearhugs, Art Webber & Jim Liston, Berkeley Springs Post Office, Berkeley Springs 24 j 11 * W.VA. 0
Hello: We are Jon and Scott from San Diego. We are planning to make a move to a more ruralplace, and are looking the right place to go. A lot of the letters we read in RFD reflect feelinqs of loneliness or isolation on the pa the writer. While we are eager to escape the “people pollution" that characterizes southern California, we both recog nize that our happiness is dependent on maintaining at least some social contact with our qay brothers. For this reason we are anxious to hear from people living in areas where some gay community, albiet small, does exist. Last summer we did some travelling through some Sierra foothill places, along the northern California coast and into southern Oregon, and visited a number of people and places. We will probably travel more next summer, and therefore, are interested in making contact with new people in new places and hearing their experiences. Right now we are both electronics engineers. We do not have the agrarian background and would likely starve if we tried to farm for ourselves. Rather, we would like to live by using our skills in some fashion to more directly benefit at least a few people. If any of you are living ir areas where there are a few other gay people, or where you have gotten positive vibes from the local straight people, we'd love to hear from you. With much love, Jon & Scott, 3830 Jennings Street, San Diego 92106, CA.
