News from our industrious Marching Band sub-committee

Since putting the Marching Band on hold at the end of 2019, our Marching Band Steering committee has been busy organising the band' s 2021 re-launch.

In recent news, the Steering and Executive committees have decided to advertise for a new Drum Major. Responsible for guiding our Marching Band players, drilling, and organising music for performances, we ' re advertising the role until Wednesday, December 30. If you know someone who would be a great Drum Major, you 'll find a copy of the job description at the end of the newsletter.

As well as seeking new leadership, the committee has planned some pretty exciting events. Once rehearsals start again, be sure to check out the Marching Masterclass with James Brice. Brice has 28 years of experience conducting, teaching, and performing, was the Principal Euphonium/Trombone with the Royal Australian Air Force Air Command Band, and has a wealth of knowledge to share with us. This workshop is perfect for new and returning marchers and will cover the fundamentals of marching and drilling.

While the Steering Committee started up early this year, it' s worth introducing (and recognising the hard work of) our committee members:

Caroline Deane (flute, Senior Band, Chair/Marching Band Manager)

Matt O'Rourke (trumpet, Senior Band)

Alex Lynch (trombone, Senior/Stage Band)

John Paterson (trombone, Senior/Stage/Explorer Band)

Joanna Druitt (euphonium, Senior Band)

David McNaught (tuba, Senior Band)

James McLeay (marching drums, Marching Band)

Chris McLeay (clarinet, Senior/Explorer Band)

Meet Marketing!

Our newest sub-committee has big ideas and the means to get it done

Following the decision from the Executive Committee, the Marketing sub-committee launched in October 2020. Meeting for the first time in mid-November, the subcommittee has hit the ground running with the launch of our latest fundraiser and re-launch of this very newsletter. But, they still have plenty more up their collective sleeves so stay tuned.

Additionally, the sub-committee has been tasked with rebuilding our website, as well as updating our branding and advertising.

Since introductions are a running theme this month, here's a hearty welcome to our sub-committee:

Chair: Matt O'Rourke (trumpet, Senior Band)*

Marketing: Alex Lynch (trombone, Senior/Stage Band)

Social Media: Cerys Akam (alto sax, Senior Band)

Graphic Design: James McLeay (marching drums)

Website: John Bjoltes (Alto sax, Discovery Band) & Warwick Deane (Clarinet, Explorer/Discovery Band)

Writing: Rachel Fieldhouse (tenor sax, Senior Band)

*Are you the Golden Kangaroos' next Marketing Director? Express your interest and you could become the next permanent chair of the sub-committee (replacing our temporary chair/many-hat-wearing Vice President)!
