1.

For Questions 1-6 give your answers as simply as possible.

To multiply fractions together you simply multiply the numerators together and multiply the denominators together. e.g.

2.

To divide fractions, simply ‘flip’ the second fraction (swap the numerator and denominator) and then multiply the fractions together. e.g.

3.

3 2 3×2 6 2 × = = = 5 3 5 × 3 15 5

3 3 3 4 3 × 4 12 ÷ = × = = 5 4 5 3 5 × 3 15

e.g.

1 1 × 2 2

7.

2 1 1 ×2 3 4

2.

3 2 × 4 3

8.

4 3 3 ×3 5 6

3.

2 5 × 5 6

9.

2 4 5 ×3 3 5

4.

2 2 5 12 5 ×12 60 1 ×2 = × = = =4 3 5 3 5 3 × 5 15

Then at the end convert improper fractions back to mixed numbers as shown above. Multiplying and dividing fractions is reasonably easy but you must use your other fraction skills like cancelling down and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. © R Foxton - countup.eu 2008

For Questions 7- 12 give your answers as simply as possible using mixed numbers if necessary.

1.

If a fraction is given as a mixed number then it is usually easiest to first turn this in to an improper fraction and then do the multiplication or division.
