A NOVEL APPROACH
Fourth to Sixth Forms
From protest literature to instapoets, comic TV scripts to Russian novels, we explore literature beyond the classroom. The topics are determined by those who come along and the range of teachers who offer to talk on their passions.
BALLET
All Students
We are pleased to offer RAD Ballet lessons to all students on Tuesday lunchtimes with Miss Eleanor Coley. Students are given the opportunity to take RAD Ballet exams whilst focussing on classical ballet technique and pointe work.

Be part of something bigger! An opportunity to get involved and lead the school’s work supporting local, national and international charities.
CHESS CLUB
First to Sixth Forms
Chess Club for new and experienced players. The RGS Chess Club holds regular fixtures against other schools throughout the year.
CLASSICS CLUB
First and Second Forms
A chance for First and Second Form students to experience talks and activities surrounding the myths and history of both Greek and Roman civilisations. Come along to find out more about gods, legends and monsters, with the opportunity to take part in an inter-school competition each year.

Lunchtime screenings of films, television series and documentaries inspired by the ancient world.
CREATIVE ENGLISH
First to Sixth Forms
A weekly meeting for intrepid writers to discuss what they have been reading and to develop their own creative writing. Each week sees a different activity: the focus ranges from developing characters to creating powerful descriptions and scenarios. As the year progresses we will collate our writing to create an anthology of the fantastic writing taking place at RGS.
ECO COMMITTEE
First to Sixth Forms
For all students interested in the environment, sustainability and making RGS a greener space. During the committee sessions students discuss and debate current issues whilst actively working on solutions. These include creating awareness campaigns, lobbying those in power, building habitats and learning new sustainable solutions.
FILM SOCIETY
Fourth to Sixth Forms
Exploring the exciting art form of film, we meet to discuss and present on our shared passions. So far we’ve explored Film Noir, the atmosphere of horror films, and the style of Kubrick as well as watching and analysing a whole range of film clips. If you love film then this is absolutely the only place to be – grab your popcorn and come to see what’s showing! Fridays 1:30pm - 2:10pm Room 1.

Enthusiastic readers and reviewers are warmly welcomed to the group, as we shadow the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards.
FIRST FORM COOKERY CLUB AND SECOND FORM COOKERY CLUB
First Form and Second Form
Expand your repertoire of culinary skills. Dishes are sourced from many different cultures and students are encouraged to develop their finishing techniques to make their dishes look and taste amazing. There are two separate clubs - one for the First Form and one for the Second Form.
FRENCH LUNCH CLUB
Fifth and Sixth Forms
A sociable and enjoyable chance to put language skills into action over lunch – sometimes themed – in the dining hall.
GEOGRAPHY MISSING MAPS CLUB
First to Sixth Forms
Students map the most vulnerable places in the developing world so that local and international NGOs can respond better to crises. Many of these places are missing from any map and disaster relief teams lack the information to make decisions in the relief effort. Students learn to map and use new software whilst developing an awareness of the difficulties in supporting these far-flung areas.
GEOGSOC
All Students
The Geography Society meets fortnightly on a Monday lunchtime for talks and discussion on topical issues. Recently, these have included the coronavirus, the impact of airports on cities, sustainable architecture and ethical sourcing of goods at Lidl. Whilst the talks are aimed towards senior students, we welcome anyone who wishes to further their knowledge and understanding of geography.
GREEK CLUB
Second Form
If you’re fascinated by the world and culture of Ancient Greece, or love language and want to take on a new challenge, come along to Greek Club to take part in language puzzles, discussions and activities all centred around the Ancient Greeks.
HISTORY AND POLITICS READING CLUB
Sixth Form
A weekly group for Sixth Form students of History and Politics who are encouraged to discuss books they are reading or interesting articles, particularly for those who are considering university courses in related subjects.
HISTORY AND POLITICS SOCIETY
Sixth Form
A weekly discussion group for Sixth Form students of History and Politics who are encouraged to present, discuss and debate. This society hosts guest lectures, competes in national essay competitions and organises visits and trips to sites of historical and political significance.
JUNIOR BOOK CLUB
First and Second Forms
Avid readers from the First and Second Forms are welcome to indulge their love of reading in a group setting.
JUNIOR CULTURE CLUB
First and Second Forms
Weekly fun-filled opportunities to discover lots about many languages and different cultures. You will be taking part in a variety of activities such as learning salsa dancing, tasting different foods, learning about a specific country, region or tradition.
LAW SOCIETY
First to Sixth Forms
The Law Society is a student-led society, where we engage with legal issues and topics through debate and discussion. It is aimed at those in the Sixth Form, either with an interest in a legal career, studying law at university, converting to law, or those who would like to broaden their horizons. It is particularly suited to humanities and students of social sciences, however, all are welcome to attend.
MANDARIN LUNCHTIME CLUB
First to Fourth Forms
Learn Mandarin Chinese from scratch through fun packed bite-size lessons based on effective linguistic tips, games, songs, quizzes and hands-on activities.
MUSLIM PRAYER SPACE
First to Sixth Forms
Every lunchtime BL11 is set aside as a space for Muslim students to come and pray. This is a drop in space and Muslim students from any year group are very welcome. For more information speak to the Chaplain, Rev Jackson.
OPEN KITCHEN
Upper School and Above
The kitchen is open for any GCSE student to practise their skills and DofE students who are doing Bronze/Silver Cooking as a skill.
PSYCHOLOGY MEDIA SOCIETY
Fifth to Sixth Forms
How accurately is human behaviour depicted in the Media? Students are invited to come and watch some clips from film and television to help them understand this question further and broaden their knowledge on the reasons we behave the way we do.
SPANISH CHAT
Fourth and Fifth Forms
Students develop their conversational Spanish by chatting informally with their peers and picking up new turns of phrase by discussing IGCSE topics.
SPELLING BEE
First and Second Forms
A fun weekly club to practise spelling specific French words in order to take part in exciting competitions throughout the year. An opportunity to improve your French in a relaxed but sometimes competitive way.
TRACK MATES

Academic mentoring available for Third to Fifth Form students at lunchtimes.
ENTERPRISE CHALLENGE
Lower Sixth Form
Students set up and run a company under the guidance of a member of RGS staff (and an external business adviser). They pitch for start-up funds from the Peter Jones Foundation and then make all decisions about their business, from the company name to company finances and selling to the public. Participants gain practical business experience and key skills, valued by universities and employers.
