ChangingLives

Having served generations of Reigate families, Morr & Co has been one of the leading law firms in the area for almost 300 years, when the first legal practice opened in 1729 at 46 High Street, Reigate. Morr & Co are there for all your personal and business needs, supporting individuals, families and businesses with advice and solutions in a range of areas from estate administration to buying and selling a property or business, divorce, employment to Wills and power of attorney. We all like to be as prepared as we can be, though you never quite know what challenges await you in the years ahead. Contrary to the widely regarded connotations associated with a Will, there are plenty of great reasons to put one in place or update your existing one, such as…

A baby

Whether it’s your own child, a grandchild or a godchild, you might want to consider leaving a legac y or share of your estate to them for when they ’re older and planning to buy their first home or to help with university fees. You might need to consider a trust if they have special requirements and take advice on the best way to do this without impinging on any benefits they might be entitled to.

For your child, you’ll need to appoint guardians to take care of them if you were to die before they attain 18 years of age – probably the most impor tant thing you’ll ever do.

An increase in wealth

You may have inherited money, won the lotter y (we can all dream), received a bonus, your proper ty or overall estate value may have increased over time. Whatever happens, you’ll want the best outcome for your family by planning around inheritance tax. This could involve some planning during your lifetime and/or via your Will too, to ensure your liability to inheritance is mitigated as much as possible.

A new par tner

More people cohabit in today ’ s society than ever before. It is sensible to consider who owns the proper ty and how you will s afeguard your future, taking into account children from previous relationships and both sets of families.

A new house

For many of us, the proper ty you own will be your most valuable asset. It is a s afe haven that can provide financial security to your family and its future needs. Perhaps you have bought a second home as an investment and wish to leave each proper ty to a different beneficiar y, or ringfence some of the total value of your estate to provide security for them in the future; whatever the situation and no matter the complexity, we are here to advise.

A new international adventure

There are plenty of countries that allow for reciprocity of Will. Probate can hold up the transfer or s ale of a proper ty if more than one countr y is involved. It may be wor th considering having a different Will for each countr y you own proper ty in.

For many, it is one of those things people put off, this could be due to stresses associated with writing a Will, complications that surround it or even lacking the time.

With our experienced team of solicitors at Morr & Co, the journey will allow you peace of mind when putting your affairs in order, ensuring you have taken care of your assets, favourite charities, yourself and your loved ones.
