As we conclude another remarkable year at Reigate Grammar School Vietnam, it is with great pride and gratitude that I reflect on our numerous achievements and milestones. This year has been filled with extraordinary events, outstanding performances, and significant academic successes, all of which have collectively enhanced the vibrancy of our school community.
One of the standout highlights of the year was the fashion and musical performances in Hoan Kiem. These events marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic cooperation between Vietnam and the UK and showcased the immense talent of our students. The performances were not only a celebration of cultural exchange but also a testament to our students’ creativity and artistic prowess.
Our sports teams have also had a stellar year, with notable successes in the HAC competition and VISA league. Our boys’ football and girls’ basketball teams demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, bringing home well-deserved victories and making us immensely proud.
The Poinsettia concerts held at the Hanoi Opera House were another high point, where our students delivered mesmerizing performances that captivated audiences and highlighted their musical talents. The Year 13 art exhibition was thought provoking and showcased the talents of our artists, who explained their creative processes with passion and confidence.
Academically, our students have continued to excel. We celebrated a very successful Year 6 PYP exhibition, where our young learners showcased their inquiry projects with confidence and depth. RGSV students also received prestigious Cambridge awards for achieving the highest marks in the IGCSE exams, a testament to their hard work and dedication.
This year, we welcomed new student leadership appointments, including our Head Boy and Head Girl, who have already begun to make a positive impact. Additionally, the establishment of new academic societies has provided students with more opportunities to explore their interests and develop their leadership skills.
We are proud to be the only school in Hanoi to receive COBIS compliance and accreditation, affirming our commitment to excellence in education. Furthermore, we successfully completed the IBDP reaccreditation, ensuring that our programmes continue to meet the highest standards.
Our vibrant community events, including International Day, Book Week, the Winter Bazaar, and the Tet celebration, have brought us closer together and enriched our school culture. These events would not have been possible without the enthusiastic participation and support of our entire community. As I write this message, we are still looking forward to Year 6 graduation, The Year 13 Leavers ceremony and Speech Day.
In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone - students, parents, teachers, and support staff - for your unwavering support and contributions throughout the year. Your collective efforts have made this an extraordinary year for Reigate Grammar School Vietnam.
Warm regards, Patrick Glennon

What were the challenges that you faced in Year 11?
Khanh Nam: “The material was more difficult than in Year 10, and since I had learned the most of my curriculum online in Year 10, adapting back with proper schooling for the entire year was challenging. It was also difficult to manage the stress that came with the IGCSE tests.”
Hung Quoc: “Due to the COVID quarantine leading to online studying for the most of our Year 10, it was a difficult time to be on track academically, and I would often find myself catching up on previously studied contents, especially in Science subjects. It is an enormous challenge to stay motivated for studying when you are overwhelmed with the concept of falling behind, and it was exacerbated by the pressure of exams. In addition, I performed a subject switch one month into Year 11, which led to the feeling of having to catch up in coursework which places emphasis on that "falling behind" notion.”
What tips would you give to younger students?
Duy Anh: “I would recommend studying using concisely written notes made by yourself, as online resources or textbooks may have redundant information. There are also many studying methods online or recommended by teachers that may be useful. Getting plenty of sleep and breaks is also important, as it is unwise to walk into the exam hall feeling tired.”
Hung Quoc: “Understand. Really understand, especially for subjects like Mathematics where it is often easy to be detracted in a formula-memorising route due to their availability. Seek help from your friends or teachers if required - it is especially crucial to be able to rewrite most, if not all formulas by yourself from reason and not memory. Do puzzles and solve problems until the subject is second nature and you can sense when a mistake is comingthis less error-prone and more proactive method would let you achieve much greater for much less time invested”
What are you most proud of during your IGCSE years?
Duy Anh: “I was most proud of my ability to juggle both studying for the IGCSEs while preparing for the UNISMUN conference for the first time. It was during this period of time when I learned many different time management methods that helped me greatly in the future.”
Hung Quoc: “I am proud of how I have grown as a person during learning. There is the common rhetoric that academic life is irrelevant to "real life," and I am glad it did not apply to me. I believe I have managed to choose subjects so that I am passionate about most of my choices, which made my learning relevant to self-development, for example, by letting me develop new hobbies. I believe that it is crucial to break that common misconceptionone that would reduce studying to no more than a 9-to-5 grind - and I am proud of managing to integrate my academic life as a part of myself.”
What were your motivations to study for the IGCSEs?
Khanh Nam: “I wanted to achieve these goals in order to enrol in a reputable university and follow my passions, but I also wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of doing so.”
Hung Quoc: “First and foremost, I value my academic life and I believe that grades do matter, and it would be pretentious not to mention this unromanticised but undeniable driving force. However, by choosing subjects I am enthusiastic about, I also set myself the target of sharpening skills that I would like to develop, and thus I feel more compelled to study and understand, which greatly reduced the pressure of subjects such as English Literature (and to some extent, my hardest IGCSE subject, Music). Thus, it gives me a vision that I can be passionate in achieving instead of revising for exams in a chore-like manner, which creates a more motivating environment.”

The crowd was packed and lively as the gracious models strutted across the stage, wearing creative and stunning designs by IBDP Year 13 Visual Arts students, Tam Bao Dinh (Zoey), Laura Santos, Tran Bao Truong and Minh Anh Pham. As every model made their way across the stage adorned with vibrant colours of red, black and white from Laura’s collection, accessories and flowy garments from Zoey’s collection, whimsical white sets from Minh Anh’s collection, and striking plaid with Vietnamese distinctive florals from Tran’s collection, applause erupted from the crowd.
“Designed by 4 IBDP Year 13 Visual Arts students, this fashion show provides an example of RGSV students' creativity, as they pay homage to the history, art, and heritage of these two captivating nations. United by a shared passion for fashion, the UK and Vietnam have woven together a tapestry of design that breathes new life into traditional garments and fuses the contemporary with the classic.” - Ms Liz, Head of Visual Arts and advisor for the Fashion Show
When asked about how she felt about performing in front of the crowd, Sue from Year 13, one of the models for Tran Bao Truong, said she was ‘quite nervous’ due to the large audience. However, she “really enjoyed this once-in-alifetime experience”. She acknowledges how getting ready for it couldn’t have been done without the support from Tran and Ms Liz’s rehearsal slots helped her and her fellow models familiarise themselves with the sequence of the runway walk. Altogether, she enjoyed being able to showcase the stunning designs by Tran Bao Truong, celebrating the union of the UK and Vietnam encapsulated in her floral layered skirt and unique top.

After 9,231 kilometers of flight, RGSV students landed in the UK and began their journey through the country, visiting Edinburgh, Manchester, and everywhere in between. The students visited scenic castles in Edinburgh, breathtaking cathedrals in Durham, and the iconic cityscapes in London.
udents also got a glimpse of their future while ng universities like Durham, UCL, Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford and more. The trip culminated in a banquet dinner and formal performance with RGS UK students.
NTERNATIONAL DAY
At RGSV, students had a special chance to experience cultures of various countries. On the day, most of the students dressed up in their traditional clothes and had a chance to do a parade around the school representing their countries.
hout the day, parents from different countries prepared nal activities, food and goods to let students learn more ther cultures.
RGSV Halloween
It's spooky season once again! This year, RGSV joined in celebrating the international traditional holiday, Halloween, with festive costumes and fun activities In the Primary School section, teachers, parents, and students put in great effort, dressing up in spooky and cute costumes. There were witches, pirates, and dinosaurs parading around the school The prep students enjoyed a treasure hunt competition, and awards were given to the best-dressed students and teachers In the Secondary section, students were also allowed to dress up, and some classes were visited by a scary butcher accompanied by creepy background music The PTA delighted all students by distributing prepared treats, which were joyfully received
RGSV BOOK WEEK
There was also a bookmark design competition for those who enjoy art and a book fair outside the library for students to purchase books. Ms. Hoai Anh, a local book author, came by to read her book to some students. But the most exciting event would probably be on the last day of the week where we were all able to come in to school in costumes of our favourite character! It was great fun to see classmates and teachers come in in all sorts of costumes!

After months of orchestra practice, meticulous planning and fine tuning, on the 31st of March the RGSV Starling Orchestra, in collaboration with Harrow School, put on a dazzling show at the 2nd Poinsettia Concert. The students of RGSV and Harrow School began with the national anthem of Vietnam and the UK, setting the tone for the rest of the night
The Poinsettia Concert spanned over 2 hours with moving pieces from “Simple Symphony” to “My Way” The RGSV Starling Orchestra paid homage to the rich culture of Vietnamese folk music as they included renditions of songs like “Que Huong” and “Long Me”, as well as, opening dynamically with “Hello Vietnam”.
The concert culminated with “Auld Lang Syne”, the RGSV Starling Orchestra and the Harrow School played their last piece of the night. The audience’s flashlights twinkled throughout the concert hall, followed by rounds of applause which concluded another surreal, unforgettable experience for the students and the school’s record books.

Khanh Linh draws on mythology and folklore around sleeping, touching on allegories such as “Sleeping is a close relative of Death” and her intrigue by the interpretation of sleeping being intuitive and spiritual rather than scientific and factual.

GOLF ECA
"This year, RGSV introduced many students to the game of golf. It gave a chance for our students to explore a different sport and learn new skills. We are really proud of the students that stepped out of their comfort zone and, hopefully, we have ignited a passion to pursue a sport they may not have had the opportunity to experience " - Mr Aaron

-Mr Preston-
The Tennis ECA gave students an opportunity to learn new skills, work together and exercise. Through hard work students were able to demonstrate progress and improve through practice and competition.
-Mr Faizan-
Engaging in the tennis extracurricular at school proved to be an enriching experience. I relished the opportunity to rally with peers, refine my technique, and foster within the team. It was a gratifying endeavour that not only kept me active but also honed my skills on the court.

(Anh Hong DANG Year 11)
I am thrilled to say that this year's team has truly exceeded my expectations I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them for their dedication to continuous training and self-improvement They have worked tirelessly to perfect their strokes, build their strength, and push themselves to achieve their goals Coming off a strong second-place finish at the HAC last year, we've come back stronger and more determined than ever. Our team has grown not only as swimmers, but as individuals, and it's amazing to see I'm confident that our hard work will pay off as we represent the ORCAS team with pride and strength at the upcoming HAC swim final on 2nd of June Get ready to witness some truly impressive performances! - Coach Madonna
“Serving as captains of the swim team was an unforgettable experience We worked hard to improve our swimming skills while having fun with other students who shared similar interests. By the end of the year, we participated in multiple events, earning well-deserved victories.” - Minkyu & Jaewan
Volleyball continues to grow here at RGSV. We now have teams across every level, and every team is continuously improving. Special mention needs to be made to our VISA girls team for finishing third, our Varsity girls team for finishing 4th in the HAC and our MS boys team which finished 4th in the HAC also. A big thank you to Mr Phuong for all his work with the boys teams and Mr Hayden for once again coaching the girls.
Mr Joe
Picking up from last year, and with some new faces joining the team this time around, the JV Boys set out to prove that this year they can be the best, and they did not disappoint. We saw it all - intense matches, dramatic comebacks, big tackles, amazing saves, and unbelievable goals, all with the teamwork and camaraderie of champions
Played ten, won ten, sixty goals scored and two trophies in the cabinet. A huge congratulations to everybody involved. This year we were unbeatable.
This season, under the guidance of Mr Joe and Mr Faizan, our team remained undefeated and secured champion titles in leagues against international schools across Hanoi and Vietnam. As captain, I’m proud of our growth into a cohesive unit and how we bonded over victories and challenges I look forward to an even more eventful season next year!
Mr Alberto:
What an excellent year for our Panthers Basketball Teams. Eight teams represented our community well in all the age categories, from our MS "B" to our Varsity teams.
The biggest highlight? VISA tournament in Hoi An last November. The Varsity Girls made an extraordinary comeback in the final and got on the plane back to Hanoi with the school's first trophy. The Varsity Boys had a well-deserved second place.

As I stand on the brink of graduation, it’s hard to believe my high school journey is coming to an end. Being part of this community has been an honour, filled with incredible adventures that will become the lasting memories few will ever know. IB was surely challenging, and every precious moment in my three-year journey at RGSV was filled with learning
It is hard to believe that I have spent four years here at RGSV. Each year was an incredibly unique and interesting experience, if at times questionable. However, I made irreplaceable memories (and damaged my health due to IB). Interestingly, I felt the IB years left the deepest mark on me here, evident in my eyebags, hand tremors, and neck pains, especially during exam seasons. But, the difficulties were always intertwined with good times, which made IB more bearable. “Suddenly I developed the ability to fall asleep anywhere at school. My favorite spot was the library floor.”
HUY BUI - Y13A
“IB’s a challenging course, I hope it lives up it its reputation (if I can get to uni).”
KATIE - Y13A
IB has changed me from a person who procrastinates until the last day to a person who procrastinates until the day after the deadline.

Seeing my friends who stayed in the same class as me for seven years, we were unknowingly watching each other grow up. The IB has taught me how to procrastinate efficiently in both my academic and personal life. I have experienced so many things and traveled to so many places during my high school years, and will forever cherish the memories that I’ve made both in and out of school.“Doing the IB is like rolling a dice, you can never get a 7.” Crafter out

My past three years here exposed me to new ideas, challenging lessons, and most importantly, amazing friends I’ll never forget those gossip sessions every free period and bringing Mayak eggs to make bibimbap together during lunch
The most fun part of high school was getting to constantly play music with my friends, which eventually led to our band formation and numerous performances at school. May these memories break our fall

IB, what makes the nights longer and the days shorter I have wanted it to end yet now that my wish is close to being fulfilled, I start to reminisce about the odyssey that we have undertaken Every single one of us has goals and ambitions of our own, some might be more distinct than others but “I have faith” in our abilities to survive the crashing waves from the ocean called life. The last three years were far from only sunshine and rainbows yet it was more than I could have ever wanted :-D

It surprises me to think how we’ve all taken the same diploma, yet are now going towards diverse future paths In less than six months, we will scatter across different countries, no longer sitting at the same canteen table, exchanging conversations or having e crying session together before every mock The memories between us, both within and outside of school, whether joyous or not, will always be etched in everyone’s heart, binding us together! Good luck to all :-)

I cannot remember how many times I cried while revising for my mocks. Two years of IB leave me with academic challenges and no social life. Would rate this course a pass/10
ZY - Y13C
It’s okay to make mistakes, we’re imperfect. Yolo. And believe in yourself, that you’re capable of anything, because that is the only way to help you get through not only IB, but also your life. I mean we have school but we also have to live life too. The best thing is to try to develop your values, help others more and be happy for other’s successes. - But IB is tough so I slept 913 hours in almost four months
HA MY - Y13C
MOLLY - Y13C
High school felt like a simulation Many days, I would be procrastinating and telling myself I would give up, but I never did. It felt like I was being controlled to just keep trying. “No, it wasn’t drive, it wasn’t about power, nor was I hungry to devour, I just couldn’t accept defeat.”
CLAIRE - Y13C
Indeed, these two years of IB are incredible We learned to manifest first and panic later, preferably after mock exams (after pseudocode, personally). To desperately hunt for caffeine from 8 to 5 and 9 to 3, all just to wipe out those blissful IA’s. To enter the music rooms like aspiring soloists, and leave with more gossip than we could even conceal. May we forever preserve those priceless skills (and surely core memories) that IB has bestowed upon us.
YEN NHI - Y13B
After two years of IB, I would like to give my most sincere “thank you” to Salonpas patches, Eagle brand medicated oil, and Efferalgan tablets for soothing my headaches and back pain given by hours of mocks and doing practice papers. I would also like to thank my beloved teachers and friends for tolerating my impulsive behavior of missing deadlines and skipping school. Overall, I think IB has done a very great job in giving me the most traumatised, self-degrading, but rewarding (not really) character development arc in my life story. I hope that university life will treat me and my friends better so we can come back to our lover girl/boy era.
