On the following pages, you will find an amazing variety of activities on offer. If you have any questions, please contact the member of staff in charge of the activity.

Both the Sports and Music practice and rehearsal timetables for this term can be found at the back of the booklet. Most sport and music activities won’t have descriptions in the Societies’ Register, but please do speak to members of the Games and Music Departments for more information.

The RGS Clubs and Societies’ Fair takes place on Monday. Come and see what is on offer and talk to the pupils and staff who run and take part in the activities.

CCF Trident

Trident, the ultimate tri-service CCF after school activity that will elevate your cadet experience to new heights!

Each Monday after school, following on after Monday P8 activities until 1800hrs, Trident awaits to immerse you in a world of thrilling military activities designed to hone your abilities and broaden your horizons. Whether you're drawn to the precision of marksmanship, the intricacies of cyber defence, or the adrenaline rush of casualty evacuation, Trident has something for everyone. The programme also includes a few weekend activities including an overnight exercise at the Urban Training Complex at Longmoor Army Camp.

Sharpen your rhetoric and interpersonal skills in a friendly, sometimes heated, but always welcoming environment. You will also have the opportunity to participate in some of the nation's leading public debating competitions, including the English Speakers Union public speaking competition and the Oxford/Cambridge union debating competitions

Drama Club (Junior)

This is a fun, friendly and informal club where we play lots of drama games that we don't have time for in lessons. You will also develop your acting skills, learn how to improvise, make new friends and develop your confidence.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The RGS runs the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. The Bronze expedition training and expedition is carried out during EXAD and on FDs. Silver and Gold training and expeditions take place on 2 Sunday training and planning days and expeditions that generally take place in the holidays.

Pupils arrange their own Volunteering, Physical and Skill section activities, which the school supports via the eDofE system.

Sign up for the Bronze takes place in November and Silver and Gold expedition sign up every September. You can register for the next level as soon as you complete the previous. There is a charge for the Silver and Gold programmes of approximately £380 each, which includes the training and two expeditions. The school also provides rucksacks, tents and stoves.

Mr Scampton is available in NC1 to assist with questions and completion.

RGS Economics Society (EcoSoc) gives passionate economists the opportunity to explore topics outside of the curriculum. You can expect a mix of talks, seminars and discussions on all aspects of Economics, including current affairs, behavioural economics and the economics of sport. In Michaelmas term the focus is on U6 student applying to study Economics at University and in Lent and Trinity term it is open to both L6 and U6 Economists.

Fencing Club

Michaelmas Lent Trinity

Fencing Club is free and open to all boys in the RGS. We welcome fencers with no experience to those fencing at national level. All fencing equipment will be provided by the school and boys should arrive in their PE kit (tracksuit bottoms and long socks needed). RGS boys have won numerous national and county titles in recent years in both foil and epee. Our coach is a former British Champion and four times Commonwealth medallist.

Location –Alpine Snowsports, Aldershot

The school enters the ESSKIA race events and fields teams in all age groups. Boys must be confident skiers, but do not need race experience. Training takes place at Aldershot Ski Centre. Minibus transport leaves school on the days of training at 1605, with the sessions running from 1700 to 1830. Minibus transport will return to school by 1915, or you may be collected from Aldershot if you wish. Trinity only. There is a charge of approx £300 for each season’s training. The school also enters the British SchoolBoys overseas races in Wengen every January. Details published each year in October/November

This Drama club will be primarily for those who wish to work on producing a short film by the end of the year. This could be a devised, original screenplay or an extant script if that is preferred by the group.

There will be opportunities for activities other than acting, so those who would like to write scripts or help with filming elements are welcome. Pupils will need to make a commitment to attending each week to ensure that we can rehearse effectively during the club lunchtime sessions.
