Pre-Prep Sport
Boys receive weekly specialist sport lessons from Nursery to Year 2 The aim of Pre-Prep Games is to create a safe and enjoyable environment to nurture pupils’ enthusiasm for sport.
The PE and games sessions focus around the development of movement, the development of sport specific technique, co-ordination and Small Sided Games. This will ensure that all pupils are exposed to sessions that inspire and motivate them to develop the necessary skills to become competent and enthusiastic about sports in general in a fun and safe environment All Games sessions are designed to maximise opportunities for players to touch the ball and interact with others.
Prep Sport
Our PE curriculum aims to develop the core physical attributes in each individual; creating better athletes for future sports participation and encouraging lifelong participation in healthy activities.
Our objectives are:
• Create a lifelong passion for sport and sports participation through offering a wider range of both major and minor sports.
• Improve all key fitness components over a 4-year period (speed, stamina, flexibility, balance, coordination, muscular endurance, agility, reaction time).
• Allow greater participation for every individual.
• Removing barriers to development and ensuring each individual has the same amount of practice time.
• Improve leadership, teamwork, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Improve self-esteem through sport.
• Provide clear tracking and progression through transparent assessment.
• Create a commitment to maintaining healthy lifestyles outside of school.
• Allow boys to take more responsibility for their own fitness/athletic development.
House Sports Opportunities
In addition to co-curricular sporting fixtures, RGS Prep has a proud history of House competitions across a wide spectrum of sports. This is a vital part of the fabric of the school and it allows participation in high numbers across the sports listed below:
● Football
● Rugby
● Cricket
● Swimming
● Athletics (Sports Day)
● Cross Country
The boys are passionate about their House, and sport provides an opportunity for them to embrace inter-House competition with boys they perhaps wouldn’t otherwise play alongside.
The school values are integral to the success of the House competitions and, although we encourage the boys to do their best and play to win for their House, it is equally important that they maintain humility, gratitude, honesty, self-discipline and respect when performing with and against their peers.
