The RGS Today Monday 23 March 2020 Issue 431
NEW WEEK. NEW GOALS. NEW CHALLENGES. #TOGETHER Today’s Reminders Daily Routine Reminders: Welcome back to remote RGS for the final week of term! Embrace the remote learning and immerse yourself fully in the experience. Just a reminder about some of the key headlines for this week:
Tutors will be logged in and available between 8.45am and 9.15am.
All boys should ‘register’ with their Tutors at 8.45am via Microsoft Teams as highlighted at last week’s briefing.
The school timetable will be followed as closely as possible. All academic lessons will occur as per the normal timing. The exceptions to this are Games Sessions, PE Lessons, Third Form ExAD, Period 8 and First Form Music (singing) lesson which will not, for the moment, operate. Use these periods as an opportunity to have fresh air and to take a break from screen time.
All students should be logged into the appropriate class on Microsoft Teams for all periods when they would be taught, as per the timings of the school timetable. For the First Form, Period 5 will run from 12.05pm – 12.45pm in line with other year groups.
Workspace: We would strongly recommend, wherever possible (and we appreciate this may not be an option), that you set up a workplace in an area of your homes other than your bedrooms. This provides a valuable distance between work and rest/relaxation which is all the more important during a sustained period of working in isolation at home. It also allows an element of transparency and helpful control in terms of efficiency and effectiveness of working. Mallison Library Lit Quiz Club: The Lit Quiz Club will meet over Microsoft Teams at 1.15pm. We will have a general discussion of literary matters, and hopefully share some recommendations for the closed period, as well as a quiz or two. You will have to provide your own cake on this occasion! If you have not already joined, email me and request to join the Team (TFF). Public Examinations: Mr Dunscombe will circulate further updates in due course. Social Media: We would be grateful if you did not discuss any aspect of the school closure in the media or on social media. In the event of any queries in this regard, please email Senior Master, Mr Pressley.

Wellbeing Screen Time: We would strongly suggest that you have sustained periods each day where you are away from screens, whether that be computers, laptops, televisions or phones. Wellbeing: Remember to look after yourselves. There are a number of major contributors to wellbeing. They do make a real difference. More tomorrow! Adequate and restful sleep: Recharges both body and brain; improves the capacity to learn and retain information; and improves social and emotional interactions Connecting with self and others (even just family members in time of self-isolation): Develops moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts and feelings, and gives a sense of belonging, identity and security. Stay connected: family, friends, old friends, lost friends. Take the opportunity to chat!
#AlwaysPartoftheRGS The Daily J-A-M Challenge
Just do it!
The J-A-M: The Just-A-Minute challenge. At the same time each day as you would be walking between classes, we invite you to take the one-minute J-A-M challenge. Take just 60 seconds between lessons. 8 opportunities: 9.50am, 10.30am, 11.25am, 12.05pm, 12.45pm, 2.40pm, 3.20pm, 4.00pm. A different challenge every day. What will be your Personal Best? Today is the ball sports challenge. Another challenge tomorrow. Now, choose your sport: Rugby: 10 passes off each hand, how many times can you hit your target (a wheelie bin is a good target)? Hockey: Feet shoulder-width apart, how many times can you dribble the ball left to right in front of you outside the line of each foot (using your reverse stick to move from left to right)? Football: How many keepy-uppies can you do in one minute? The smaller the ball the tougher the challenge. Cricket: How many times in one minute can you keep the ball tapping on the face (or edge!) of your bat?
Today’s Cryptic Challenge Today’s Teaser: An easy one to start with! Can you work out the answers to these clues, all of which contain the letters R-G-S in that order (but not necessarily consecutively)? 1. Most intelligent, just like our students! 2. Your first required appointment of the day. 3. One of the RGS Learning Habits: most needed at the moment! 4. Not remembering things: easily fixed by reading The RGS Today! 5. A member of our teaching staff (if there were two of him…!).
