ANALYSIS OF MY OWN RESIDENCE

ANALYSIS OF MY OWN HOUSE

This is the measured plan of my own house. I was given an exercise in which I had to observe and critically analyse the plan of my house as an Interior Architect. Bring out the necessary problems of the house ,how functional it is and to find out the inferences .

ZONING Since there were too many overlaps of the zones in the house .I decided to show the zoning in two different parts. The zoning done in the image right below is according to the members of the family.

SPACE USAGE How often each space is used in the house during the whole day.

This zoning is done according to the guests (as a public zone)

FORM AND SPACE To analyse the negative and positive space in the house in terms of furniture and space circulation .To check how balance the space looks and to also see the size and proportion of the space.

1.To understand relationship of each space ,how each space interact with each other. 2.To Analyse the distant relationship of spaces from each other.

RESIDENCE DESIGN BRIEF PROBLEM ANALYSING THE PROBLEMS OF THE EXISTING DESIGN UNDERSTANDING THE NEEDS AND REQUIREMENS OF THE MEMBERS IN THE HOUSE

SOLUTION LOOKING FOR A BETTER DESIGN THAN EVER THE MOST UPDATED RESEARCH TO DESIGN A BETTER LOOK TO CREATE A DESIGN FULFILLING THE CLIENTS REQUIREMENTS

COMMON BRIEF FOR RESIDENCE •WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND IN THE SPACE? •WHAT IS THERE? •WHAT YOU WISH TO CREATE IN YOUR NEW DESIGN SPACE?

Designing the existing space in the given grid as per the preferences of the family members. There are two floors required to be designed. .

EXISTING SPACE

1.DRAWINGROOM PROBLEM:In my drawing room, there is enough space which is why it used for my many purpose. The dining space is combined and there is also a diwan like bed for sleeping purpose.Since the entry is from the space it is a bad design. SOLUTION:The orientation of the entry should preferably change. The bed should move to a separate zone to not disturb the public space. 2.CORRIDOR PROBLEM :All the circulation happens from this space. It becomes a very chaotic atmosphere.Since there not enough space for so much of circulation. There is a step down towards to the dining tablre which is not safe, while serving . SOLUTION:There should be complete segregation of zones which the buffer zone usually defines.

3.KITCHEN PROBLEM Kitchen is a very compact space, only maximum 2 people can work at a time, there is not enough circulation happening around. It does not follow work triangle, because the fridge is outside in the dining space which becomes too far everytime. SOLUTION:Kitchen should follow work triangle relationship. The space should be expanded, since its too compact. 4.MASTER BEDROOM PROBLEM:It is very small in comparison to a master bedroom. There is a big window from where lot of daylight and ventilation enters the space. There is not enough circulation, the door swing clashes with the tv cabinet, the orientation of furniture is wrong. There is pooja space inside the room itself. There is no dressing space seperately,The washroom is also very small. SOLUTION:Preferably a larg space is required. The puja space should be in a different area and dressing space should be inside the master bedroom as per the requirement.

PROXIMITY ADJACENCY

WHAT I WANT

WHAT I HAVE

The adjacency ratio defines how space are related to each other in accordance with daily activities and functionality.

BUBBLE DIAGRAM •

Each bubble is in the form of a space, the size of the bubble PROCESS: indicates the size of the space. The bubbles are joined in a way that The arrows indicates the proximity of each space, which space how spaces should be close to which other space. The proximity is should be close to which other space. taken into consideration while making bubble diagrams.

FINAL BUBBLE DIAGRAM WHY THIS BUBBLE DIAGRAM? • • • •

It was fulfilling all my requirements that I needed to apply in my zoning. The relationship of kitchen with other spaces, how well interactive it was behaving. The kitchen acting as a buffer zone. The privacy given to the other floor for bhabhi and bhaiya and also a place to party.

SCHEMATIC ZONING Doodling of the zones helped in understanding the proportions of the space well.Lot of efforts were put in while designing the space. To achieve a better design it had to be logical and well thought plan..

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT STAGE LEARNING OUTCOME: • I understood how to create a space in the given layout. • I understood how to apply principles of design while designing the space. • I understood the criteria involved while designing the space with the given layout. • I also understood that it has to be well balanced. • I understood that the idea and technique of the design is followed by us either it can be form follows function or function follows form. • I understood the intent of designing a good space. • I understood before finalising the space, one should try to keep options. So that there is better understanding to have a better design with us. • I understood to have a good relationship between all the spaces and interaction involved.

ANALYSIS OF THE PROPOSEDPLAN

How a better design can be achieved? How there can be more clarity in a design?

PAPER MODEL

FINAL PLAN In this process my final design of the space fulfilled all the requirements and neeeds of my client. PLAN:After going through lot of changes and trying to fulfill all the requirements of my client .I achieved this design which was close to what I wanted to create. It is a well thought layout keeping in mind the principles of design. SPECIAL ELEMENTS: Creating a double height space-a courtyard.I also tried incorporating puja space in the courtyard so that the space is close to nature. But since there was seasonal factors that stopped me from incorporating the design in the informal space. I designed a private floor for bhaiya and bhabhi keeping in mind their requirements.

DEN PLAN I was given to design a space for my own living. In my space there is entertainment space, pantry, bath area ,sleeping space and workspace It’s a 5mx5m space with 5m height inclusive of mezzanine floor
