AIM: HOUSING FOR IIM STUDENTS (MASTER’S DEGREE)
TOTAL NO. OF STUDENTS: 200 NO.
Concept: Comfortable living spaces which intersect and interact with each other , to create private and public gathering spaces. Main intersecting spaces created are:-
1.Passenger walk
2.Cylinders and Cuboidal intersection to create form
3.Intersection between hardscape and soft-scape
Traditional language is also incorporated in this project for eg.
- connecting bridges that create shaded narrow streets
- low rise buildings i.e G+1
- smaller courtyards and a larger central courtyard space
- exposed brick vault structure
The three units come together to form a cluster. The spaces in these plans are designed according to the basic needs of master students in IIM. Pooja Room is also provided for families considering all age group of people who do their masters. Ground floor bedrooms and low rise units to ease the movement for the old age group.
The cluster composition forms common outdoor space in between , also creating interactive spaces. In y-direction bridge connecting two units ia seen with a central partition to maintain privacy and create seperation in the combination. This bridge shades the narrow passage formed through the composition, and this is inspired from traditional housing design and Asian Games Village by Raj Rewal.
Intersecting pedestrian street , shaded through connecting bridges above. Entry from 3 sides as the road connects the site. Parking space near the site entry to allow easier vehicular movement. A common park at the intersection of the streets.
The units are placed according to a hypothetical grid , centre lines in y-direction are in a straight axis for easier setting out planning. Trees surround the site and added according to landscape, Access to context is also considered while planning.
This mosaic pattern is designed such that it can be combined infinitely to create this pattern, Its inspired from MC Eschers work.

NATURAL LIGHT DIFFUSED LIGHT MAX FLEXIBILITY
Light is essential for a human vision, whether it’s natural or artificial.
Acoustics account for sensitivities due to variable qualities of noise, sound, infiltration and perception.
SENSORY ZONES MAX ACCESSIBILITY TRANSITION
Nature in learning and healing settings is essential. These vignettes explore integration strategies and discuss the potential programmatic organisation.
Rammed Earth - for Texture insulation, cooling property
Connection of open spaces to semi-open and closed spaces.
Fins act as sensory element and promotes venturi effect
Nature provides another layer of security, transition & collective belonging
The design involves concious efforts to provide comfortable environment yet a place where they can adapt according to outer world. Nature is recognised as the best element to bring them a sense of belonging.
PLANNING: G-1 HANDICRAFT WORKSHOP
G ADMIN, RETAIL CENTRES, WORKSHOPS, CANTEEN
G+1 CLASSROOMS, SENSORY ZONES

LOCATION: KERELA
SITE AREA: 2000 sqm
AIM: HOME FOR A FAMILY OF 5 WITH STEEL IN WARM & HUMID CLIMATE
CLIMATE: WARM & HUMID
Concept: The material steel is explored thoroughly and how steel can be used in warm & humid climate considering the affect of this on the material and prevention measures that can be taken to enhance the use as well as use the properties of the material efficiently.
Steel-
- High compressive strength
- high tensile strength
- works good with cantilevers
- possible larger spanning
- 2 way & 3 way systems
Warm & Humid Climate-
- Requires proper cross ventillation
- Large openings are possible
- insulation should be good
- green roofs and green architecture can be explored
- condesation problems occur with metal buildings
- Attics can be made for efficient heat transfer
SIMPLE CONNECTION COLUMN TO FOUNDATION CONNECTION
BEAM TO BEAM CONNECTION
RIGID CONNECTION
The design involves a cantilever structure i.e 1/3rd of the simply supported spanning. Louvers cover most of the facade to complement the warm and humid climate. Both horizontal and vertical louvers are provided according to privacy of the space. Ground floor mainly involves semi public spaces and a bedroom for grandmother , while private spaces on the first floor.

LOCATION: SOUTH CLIFF-VARKALA, KERELA
AREA: 5081sqm
AIM: COMPREHEND AND STUDY THE CONTEXT IN TERMS OF LANDUSE, BUILT-UNBUILT, TYPOLOGY ETC...
CONCEPT- Understand and learn about people living in the region and also the tourist. Recognising development needs and traditional practices that are followed originally, how to increase tourism and also maintain sustainable development.
KEY OBSERVETIONS- Area defined class of people
-Huge compound walls of wealthy people on the boundary side of cliff
-southern cliff was silent and private while the nothern cliff was noisy and crowdy
-foreigners lived here to enjoy Ayurveda and Peace
Observation: unorganised roads in the inner side of the road.
Observation: Hotels with huge compound walls at the edge of the cliff.
Observation: Workers in these hotels come from opposite side of road.
Coconut trees, fruit bearing trees, medicinal trees are majorly seen.
Observation: Flat and Sloped roofs.
Observation: 3 storey complexs near cliff
-2 storey structure is proposed where small markets can run on the ground floor and people can live above ,this would generate income also. -Elevated platform or bridge to allow sea view to everyone.
-A nature walk and public exhibition space or information centre is proposed to have sustainable development as well as to increase tourism in the area.
-Exhibition/community space where works of poor craftsman etc can be promoted.
Kinetic Wall Hanging, is a symmetrical design consisting of repetitive units that are combined to form a complete circular form. The unique feature of the product is its kinetics i.e. manual expansion and contraction in the geometry. The design was first explored in grasshopper to prove its workability and then a model was made manually.
This can be made from wood and other such materials here i have used metal sheet so that it can be worked further using electrical energy.
The scale of the design gave it function, the design explored simulation in grasshopper of changing patterns inside a geometry that develop themselves automatically which enhances strength of the structure. the main purpose on exploring this was to learn more about generative designing and exploring ways to make a structure more creative yet stronger.
Generative designing - a method of using AI algorithms to generate and evaluate multiple design alternatives based on input. I want to further explore into this with nature related generative designing.
GRASSHOPPERCaddisfly starts with one pebble and binds together all the pebbles using silk like material. It starts with the lower body and covers itself leaving the bottom exposed. This silk like material is very flexible and stays strong in water also.
A tent like structure is designed inspired from the above example, with EDPC. This material can be deflated and folded easily, its lighter as well as reflective so one can hide inside and camoflage with surrounding nature.
The idea is to study a insect and how it develops a home for itself and replicate similar idea for designing a tent .
Caddisfly is an insect which is very small smaller than 1/50th part of our finger. These creatures are important as they serve as food to fishes as well as they help in filtering algae. These creatures have very unique way of creating shelter by sticking small pebles of accurate size and shape by a sticky substance they produce by themselves. This substance is transparent yet very strong and is still under study of scientists.
Further, the design proposed involves a new material named EDPC which is a polymeric material that reflects. This material gives possiblility to inflatable architecture.
1. This tensile structure was first thought of geometrucally to avoid bad aesthetic in the final product. Certain typologies were explored to come up with the installation. Colour theme was decided accordingly. Material- dyed fish nets, ropes lights were placed on the ground to enhance the effect.
2. This bamboo frame structure was made to understand the properties of bamboo and create a frame structure on the entrace. the concept was to create hierachy and Assymetry.
