Junior year took Melissa Britton by surprise. When choosing classes her sophomore year, precalculus was at the top of her list, a way to get ahead. She hit the ground running, but it wasn’t enough.

“I was struggling a lot, every test I was scared that I was going to fail,” she said. As the year progressed, just a really amazing experience even though it was really difficult,” she said Rocklin High School math teacher Craig Waechtler was her teacher at the time and contributed to Britton’s success. She formed close bonds with her classmates due to the level of difficulty of the class. “I think it was just how much fun we had even though it was so difficult, because we were all just bonding over the struggles,” she said. Britton met her boyfriend in that class. “[Our] first date was studying for our math test because it was so difficult, but we really bonded over that.” The class is known for being difficult for many people who take it. Nevertheless, the class taught Britton many things. Most importantly, it showed her the difficulty of the world outside of high school. In the beginning, Britton took this class to prepare for college, but she ended up making connections that continue to flourish today. class a little lighter.
