A desire to create and communicate within society comes as a natural desire, from school competitions to identifying graphic design as a commercial industry,I have enjoyed the academic and practical challeges of exploring visual communication as an art form. As a practicing BA (hons)student on the Graphic Design programme at Leeds College of Art I have been given opportunity to perfect my technical skills while developing a sense of style and a contextualised understanding of industry through studio visits, industry briefs and competitions. Flick through my portfolio and let me know what you think...

Portland Ashwagandha Farm Brand Identity A dynamic new brand identity for the Portland Ashwagandha Farm. The contemporary logo derives from extended research into the target audience and the viusal culture of portland as a city. The spherical design uses custom logotype to create a bold legible statement that results in a balanced resolution with even weights to create a strong visual focal point, naturally drawing the eye into the centre of the design. The mandala illustration connotes nature with subtle reference to the herbs indian origins and is successful in communicating the natural and organic ethics of the brand.

Business Against Crime in Leeds Poster Concept The resolution appeals to a younger target audience, identified by the client, with the use of universally popular emoji’s to create a high impact visual statement that is easily understood and recognised by the target audience. The visual imagery transcends language barriers perfect for a multi-lingual city such as Leeds, effectively communicating its message efficiently to the public. The minimal aesthetic creates a bold message that will be effectively understood in both the day and night economy, especially at bars and clubs where alcohol may affect legibility of the design.

Grand CafĂŠ Revitalisation

An entry for the YCN student awards set by UCC cofee. The concept of the resolution is focused on the sustainability and ethics of the brand. This informs the re-usable and bio-degradable materials within the products packaging and extends into a revitalised branding identity, that is concentrated throughout the brands DNA. The raw minimal aesthetic will engage current customers and appeal to a new demographic whilst remaining true to its brand values, utilising high quality, sustainable materials complimented by contemporary detailing.

Skills Described as a ‘conceptual thinker’, I have a desire to make design with substance. I find this elevates a resolution from something that just looks superficially pretty to a piece of design with a sense of contextual integrity. Experienced in industry software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indeisgn) with an experimental curiosity to my practice that has lead to an experienced understanding of screen printing, laser cutting and photography.

Hobbies In typical welsh fashion, I was a keen rugby player growing up in North Wales, unfortunately this hobby never followed me to university however am keen to start back up. I would consider myself a social person, although between a university degree, retail job and social life have little leftover time in the day, I visit the gym regularly although have to admit that I am a fair weather runner.

Interests I am beginning to understand the realisation that inspiration is everywhere. From emotions to culture and everyday experiences that affect the way in which we design as creatives. I like to keep my interests as broad as possible to reflect this, however my main interests are music of varying genres, cinematograpy, food (especially organic and locally sourced ingredients) and visual culture, with a whole lot inbetween.
