INTRODUCTION I started photography at a young age, being introduced to black and white film. Not stopping since, I have worked with colleges and a local charity taking and publishing photos. I like taking photos because I get to capture the memory of the snap; the key moment when the photo is the way you wanted it. This is more than a hobby for me. This is my life through a lens and what I experience in the world. I want to go on a journey, to see powerful scenes of reality or the excitement of imagination within art. The focus that has always brought me closer and closer to my goal are the people I meet through this, the laughter, the memories, the pictures.

All photography was originally black and white. Even after color film was readily available, black-and-white photography continued to dominate for decades, due to its lower cost and its “classic photographic look. It is important to note that some monochromatic pictures are not always pure blacks and whites, but also contain other hues depending on the process. The cyanotype process produces an image of blue and white for example. The albumen process, first used more than 150 years ago, produces brown tones.

BLACK

& WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY Many photographers continue to produce some monochrome images, often because of the established archival permanence of well processed silver halide based materials. Some full color digital images are processed using a variety of techniques to create black and whites, and some manufacturers produce digital cameras that exclusively shoot monochrome.

Working with cameras and people has always been some of my best qualities. I have photographed people since the age of 12, always trying to get that perfect snap, the most memorable moment, which can be dramatic, happy, or dark and mysterious. I have had this interest due to the work of Nan Golden, a 1980’s sensation al photographer, having worked in America, London and even Paris, her most famous work gave me a lot of influence and gave me a glimpse at what I’d like to do in the future. I’d like to create imagery of the everyday, harsh reality but also have a bit of comedy element where it’s not so depressing or hurtful.

The smoking man (left) has exhaled and pushed the smoke so as to block the other half of his face, as if showing a dark side to this person. The focus is on the man’s face and how he uses his emotion to push out the smoke with quite rough features with high contrast to show more detail and a dark mysterious side to it as well.

My line of photography involves attitude as well as natural shots. I like to create fame within the shot giving the subject more light, in this photo there is a woman waiting in a bar, holding out a cigarette and dark sun glasses. The photo shows focus on her attitude as it makes an imprint to the shot with the exposure.

A child at play. In this shot you see a lot of exposure to his face and hands to which the picture is in complete focus on the child on the climbing set, rather than the backdrop of the building behind where is blurred.

Color photography is photography that uses media capable of representing colors, which are traditionally produced chemically during the photographic processing phase. By contrast, black-and-white (monochrome) photography records only a single channel of luminance (brightness) and uses media capable only of showing shades of gray. In color photography, light-sensitive chemicals or electronic sensors record color information at the time of exposure. This is usually done by analyzing the spectrum of colors into three

COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY channels of information, one dominated by red, another by green and the third by blue, in imitation of the way the normal human eye senses color. The recorded information is then used to reproduce the original colors by mixing together various proportions of red, green and blue light (RGB color, used by video displays, digital projectors and some historical photographic processes), or by using dyes or pigments to remove various proportions of the red, green and blue which are present in white light (CMY color, used for prints on paper and transparencies on film). 28
