BIOGRAPHY

My name is Ricardo Rovisco Teixeira and I was born on April 23rd on the beautiful city of Lisbon. Being the son of a sculptor, from an early age, I felt involved on the creative field and in direct contact with the raw material. I wasn’t afraid of experimenting, or going wrong, because I felt I could use those mistakes to learn. I grew up making my own toys, my small sculptures, drawing my imaginary characters, under the shape of cartoons and cutting socks and t-shirts to dress up my G.I. Joes. After concluding high school in Arts, I went to the university to study Visual Arts, but I wasn’t fully satisfied. Then I decided to apply to Fashion and Textile Design. My characters began to come into life and so I felt I was on the right track. During that academic path, I’ve kept myself active and proactive. I had an exhibition on the Museu da Guarda, a Professional Internship at the Dino Alves atelier in Lisbon, I’ve participated on urban arts and crafts fairs and I was selected to an international contest in San Francisco, California, where I had the chance to attend a Master Class with Thierry Rondenet and Herve Yvrenogeau , on the Arts of Fashion Foundation. Meanwhile I took my Professional Internship on DIELMAR, where I started working as a junior fashion designer, on classic men’s wear. I am dynamic, high spirited, organized and I have a very strong team spirit and I always look for a permanent evolution and to overcome myself, day by day.

INSPIRATION

Inspiration is essentially external to the individual because it arrives to us by stimulations that formalize on the creative person’s imagination, and materialize themselves through various forms. The main difference is the capacity to digest that is inherent to the being, so that he can translate that information that is held by intuition. This Catalogue gathers a few of the works and products that I’ve been developing as a Fashion Designer and Creative. For any questions or doubts about prices please go to the customer’s area on my personal site, that has an easy access and a regular follow up.

A Day in Amsterdam

New Optimism

A robust yet sexy look is the focal point of the man who embodies the bohemian and creative spirit of a modern traveler. A sophisticated playboy that brings back and flaunts traditional elements much like Downtown Abbey, with the recurring concept of vintage and retro. Emphasis on used and distressed looking fabrics: cooked wool, pure or blended, with unique dyes, jerseys, tweeds and nattés, Shetland wools and printed velvets help creating a vintage look with a luxurious retro twist. Wool blends in with cashmere for a sheen effect, but is also used in it’s super 130’s and 150’s versions in traditionally constructed suits. 8, 12 and 14 wale cotelê fabrics with washed and used aspect are a statement. Brushed, distressed surfaces give a cozy and comfortable feeling to the look, with garments that transmit a story. Old, traditional tartans and English patterns are back. Flannel and Saxony finishings are pivotal to reaffirm a trend where old looks tend to have more texture and authenticity. Leather and suede in the details become fundamental to lock up the look. The waistcoat establishes itself as the essential garment to recreate a Dandy silhouette. Patterns, shades, material and textures intertwine. Knitted accessories, such as neckties and handkerchiefs, claim the spotlight . The general color palette is built with a range of neutral, cooler shades paired up with warmer, natural tones, creating a traditional Fall feeling with the fruit and berry shades warming up the fog and slate greyish tones. Midnight and navy blue, teal, forest green, olive and brown blend in with shades of pumpkin and orange, rust and copper, mustard and wild berries.

The traditional and classic look makes its appearance on this collection, through a modern offer, with a fresh young touch that escapes from the seriousness of the most common garments. The coats with simple cufflink, more form fitting and with an impeccable cut or the double breasted jackets, have a leading place, along with trousers more fitted to the body, with or without pleats, suggesting a younger and more contemporary silhouette. The traditional tailoring appears with a modernized look, mixed with sportswear pieces, using washed and casual fabrics. Inserted on this new wearing concept, DIELMAR presents for the first time at Pitte Uomo, its most recent line of products, DIELMAR WEEKEND COTTON, presenting tailoring inspired pieces but with a sporty look and construction. It is a line where the fabrics are 100% natural cotton and have on their composition, a high percentage of cotton, occasionally mixed with linen, silk or even wool and always washed. Chino trousers garment wash and garment dye and 5 pockets jeans complete this new product offer. As colors are concerned, a palette of indigo blues sometimes delevé, mixed with a vivid red, white and sky blue, approaching a nautical view, evolving to a palette of mint greens, yellow, saffron and soft browns mixed with brick, a little on the ice cream style, sometime punctuated with a hint of rose and orange. On the city wear line, DIELMAR PRIVATE, the soft greys mix with white in fresh wool suits in Super 130’s versions, in a more semi-traditional construction. Some window squares in jackets and three colors stripes on the shirts, set the rhythm and provide relaxed and informal pictures. The attention dedicated to detail in the under collar in stripped fabrics or with embroidery, blazer style buttons with monograms and the inside of the pieces more sophisticated, transforms a dull style into more elegant and creative pieces.

Hero for a day

Gangs of New York

Elegance isn’t just a way of dressing but an attitude, a way of thinking. Disconnected references are brought together in an eclectic way, creating menswear that presents apparently incompatible concepts, such as sophistication with simplicity. The Bespoke style appears in several silhouettes, some perfectly fitted to enhance the male form, others in a deconstructed version of the business suit, so that charm and sophistication are cleverly combined to produce subtle and surprising results. Geometrical patterns such as stripes and plaids glorify and update the masculinity of the fabrics. Only ever using natural fibers, the blend of wool, silk, cotton and linen provide a fresh, elegant and refined look. Chromatic harmony is present in three prime combinations: half-tones of aquamarine and blue; pastel lavender paired with greys; and finally pale, natural colors merged together. Indigo and deep blue underly each of these combinations as the foundation of the overall palette. In this collection, a multitude of influences meet harmoniously to produce a sensation of total unity.

“An urban and sophisticated environment with a polished, refined aesthetic where wool, cashmere, silk and angora play a pivotal role in well constructed garments with exclusive trimmings. DIELMAR uses only the best fabric suppliers to create a unique collection that includes Prince of Wales check, the timeless bird’s eye and suit pinstripes in a colour palette that combines shades of grey, brown, navy blue and black. This Winter is full of situations in wich the appropriate look is essential and DIELMAR, a historic Portuguese brand, is proud of its ability to dress men with the utmost distinction for every single occasion, whether it’s a business meeting, a day in the countryside, a ceremony or a social event. The brand has already dedicated 46 years to the development of a timeless style, with elegance and an exquisite attention to detail, a tribute to men and the art of being well dressed.”

Master Class Series 2008

Influence

The challenge was to manipulate a “kimono”, having as a perspective the formal and cognitive evolution of the image, so we were given the basic mold of the piece, some satin ribbons and a few plastic circle shapes. To construct the pieces we had to reuse vintage materials, such as bed sheets, curtains, table cloths for the Kimono and fur coats for the construction of trousers or shorts. The satin ribbons and the plastic circle shapes were for the styling and accessorizing the outfit for the show.

By the influence of the Greek mythology and Icarus dream, this collection represents one of Man’s greatest ambitions: the desire to fly. The eternal dream of flying, of traveling between skies and seas, much like as a contemporaneous Icarus, is what gives form to this collection. The harmony, the equilibrium amongst shapes and colors express the deepest concern in reaching this concept. Influenced by Yohji Yamamoto’s collection for Mandarina Duck, Aitor Trouph and his fictional characters, Brancusi, as well by some flight clothes. As for the fabrics, waterproof, jersey and leather were chosen due to their comfort and versatility, much-needed characteristics in traveling cloth. As for the colors, blue symbolizes the sky and the sea, white stands for salvation, black represents lurking danger, and finally the brown leather gives a sense of antiquity.

Corricolar Internship at Dino Alves

Mousetrap Warrior’s

DINO ALVES launched a limited edition of exclusive t-shirts looking like “Fucked T-shirts”.

Mousetrap Warrior is a metaphor that is about the thoughts that come from the purpose of city life, as its own traps with which the social plot involves and chokes us.. All this occurs surrounding the purpose of a posterior manipulation, aiming an unarmed man. This man gets poorer because his greatest wealth has been stolen, being able to see and therefore, act and intervene, maintaining an active social part. But then the warrior appears as a way to fight those traps and that is why the inspiration of the collection is about the Portuguese warriors “Templários” and war armors. Because this is the collection I presented at the end of my degree, I felt the need to also talk about the place that took me in during the years I spent studying. Castelo Branco is a Portuguese city, homeland for the “Templários”, and that is why its presence is so strong, throughout its “Albicastrence” history. To put together the image that I wanted and to enhance the concept of dissatisfaction and a journey to find the perfect place, some oriental influences arose. To make the concept stronger, the color black was used, symbolizing mourning, sobriety and fertility, as it is seen in certain cultures (the richness of a black land or the fertility of a black sky holding the promise of rain). This collection aims a man whose age is between 25 and 35. Its public is active, urban and sober.

Made from old or brand new “Merchandising” t-shirts, they go through a destruction process, suffering high temperature washing, plunged into water for several days, altogether with nails and other iron items, so that they get rusty and ripped, with holes in it, made by sharp tools. Then they are reconstructed, passing through a new decoration stage, where several materials and elements are added. In the end they are turned into objects, by ironing them very strongly, they harden as a card board or other pictorial support. At first, they are an art object that can be kept like that, but if we want to wear them, we just have to wash them.

Heaven’s Playground

Unification Pride

“Heaven’s Playground” is a theme and a reflection of a thought that has been developed about the city life, the marasmus, the vicious circle and the passivity that involves all this. Having as a starting point the book from the Portuguese author Eça de Queirós, “A cidade e as serras” and all the thinking about the role that cities play on the path of man, and the way that they manipulate and push him to a narrow place, feeding the worst that exists in our essence and blocking what is ahead, making us feel smaller, by taking from us what our eyes want to see. It makes us poorer, because our only treasure is being able to see. Reflecting about these matters and also because I believe that the communion between the human being and nature is still possible, I’ve projected a collection holding the purpose of inviting man to enjoy nature and its horizon of freshness, for a Spring/ Summer filled with balance and well being. It is a collection conceived for the upper middle class man, that possesses a traveler spirit, adventurous and whose age is between 25 and 35. The land art, the masks and the tribal elements, as well as the cool places, namely, Serra de Sintra, are elements that cannot be avoided on the aesthetic and the linearity of this collection. Formally speaking, I’ve tried to offer to the possible consumer of comfort and versatile products; an opportunity so that he can enjoy the best that country has to offer. Concerning the chosen pantones, the grey palette symbolizes the “City” of our days; the greens, the vegetation and the spirit for survival; the white symbolizes peace of mind, “internal rinse” and flowers; the blue is for the water and the sky. In what concerns the raw material, cotton knits were chosen and acrylic for its touch, comfort and lightness, ideal for Summer time. Concerning leather, this one is a reference to the animal kingdom and to that animal side that, sometimes, also possesses us. Leather as a timeless material, adds a touch of class and distinction. The waterproof fabric gives us texture and lightness. “Heaven’s Playground” is a returning to the origins.

Proposal of a collection for the summer of 2008 developed for fashion and textile design discipline, with the aim of being a Commercial proposal for a Designer by choice. The chosen designer was the Belgium Walter Van Beirendonck, for his amazing ability to create and innovate, and for his activist and interventionist personality in society. So I created an inspirational panel, based on the Artist’s aesthetic that served as a starting point for the assignment, because he also develops his collections with a strong and present graphic influence. Five graphic symbols were developed and a sixth, afterwards, resulting of the mixing of all the others, and the collection developed almost as a recipe with a history and a common thread. All materials are recycled and made from natural fibers, preserving the ecological characteristic and the social concerns. Symbols: 1-Soul 2-love 3-power 4-people union 5-Vision Recipe: 1 We must have the vision of a better world, we must believe that our planet can smile for good and breathe in a healthy way. We must want to recycle, to re-use the materials and the mind. 2 Then we leave to gather with ourselves, we recycle thoughts “renewing” them to construct a new soul. 3 To that soul we add all the love spoons we can muster, because only by loving life and everything in it, we can succeed. 4 Put everything in a pot and add the power that we all possess and an explosive mixture will come out, capable of turning this world into a much more enjoyable place. 5 Season everything with an eclectic mixture of sounds and flavors. 6 Drink the potion that will make a hero out of you and get down to it.

Lifefreestyle

Monkey business at the Urban Jungle

Regarding the course Fashion and Textile Design Discipline, we had to elaborate a Children’s collection for Fall Winter 2008/2009. I chose a feminine target, whose age was between 8 and 12, middle class. The collection has a strong inspiration on art deco, clothing design of époque clothes and a few creations by Kate Pastefield. In what concerns the cuts, I ended up by drinking a bit of the metrics that is felt on the Retro stained glass (vitral). At the same time, in graphic terms, a comic was created and conceived with the Urban Stickers and their picture styling methods influence. This comic was created as a way to pass the message that I intend to pass. This message tries to alert children for the fact that they can grow a lot more, interacting with other people, through the contact with the material and go looking for themselves, in a fearless way or with other children Then I achieved the concept of the urban warrior, the fearless self of the child or the character that the combinations of clothes can originate, offering a world full of imagination, giving birth to other ways of playing, away from videogames and computers. We are reaching the “social generation” and young people can make a turning point and continue the fight for creativity, that is only possible by absorbing the outer references e and our relation to what they has to offer. As a response to these intentions, all the garments are made with practical materials, with knee protections and other reinforced fabrics, giving the idea of a warrior’s armor, a fighting garment, a fight for a personal definition, because it is a very important age for one’s personal development. The colors are bright and contrasting and the goal is to cheer, to awake, to make a stand, to enhance the character and bring it to life.

This collection has been developed for Spring Summer 2007 and it essentially goes around the statement: “It is better to be a fake somebody then a true nobody”. Is there a better definition of fashion? And the identity created around an image? What is its importance? What’s real? This proposal was developed after this thought of finding “characters” with a unique, exclusive and personal identity. With an inspiration on the photographic work of Steve Mc Curry, and the infinite labyrinths of sand (crated on the streets of India) and with some urban looking grunge walls influences.

Concept | Description Mousetrap Warrior is a metaphor that is about the thoughts that come from the purpose of city life, as its own traps with which the social plot involves and chokes us..

Concept | Description “Heaven’s Playground” is a theme and a reflection of a thought that has been developed about the city life, the marasmus, the vicious circle and the passivity that involves all this. Reflecting about these matters and also because I believe that the communion between the human being and nature is still possible, I’ve projected a collection holding the purpose of inviting man to enjoy nature and its horizon of freshness, for a Spring/Summer filled with balance and well being.

Concept | Description Proposal of a collection for the summer of 2008 developed for fashion and textile design discipline, with the aim of being a Commercial proposal for a Designer by choice.

Concept | Description Regarding the course Fashion and Textile Design Discipline, we had to elaborate a Children’s collection for Fall Winter 2008/2009.

Concept | Description This collection has been developed for Spring Summer 2007 and it essentially goes around the statement: “It is better to be a fake somebody then a true nobody”.
