Building Sysem Design | 2009 | G. Ricci
The project of this private house with a studio is mainly made up of two indipendent bodies, rotated between each other and isolated by two structural walls. The only joint between those bodies is the main entrance, a transparent volume containing stairs to reach the upper level. This volume is the only space connected with the outdoor, embodying an extension of the surrounding inside the building.

RICCARDO RADICA
The Japan Culture Museum originates from the formalization of the kanji of mountain, since climbing to the top of the holy hill is a metaphor of reaching the knowledge; indeed the building is tripartite both in plan and in elevation, similarly to the strokes of the kanji. The central body hosts a permanent exhibition, that can be gradually visited by reaching the top of the building through ramps and stairways. The right body hosts temporary exhibitions, whereas the left one is an auditorium.

reversible drosscapes
The drosscapes formation process, that in the last decades affects fringe spaces and dismissed areas, also involves wide areas of the city of Piacenza. The urban context is made up by the consolidated tissue of the ancient city that is distinctly separated from the countryside by the Po river. Over time several barriers grew up between the builded area and the river, generating the so called drosscapes.

There are three topics inside the project area that generate the recycling process of drosscapes: the riverside re-naturalization, the agricultural product managing (from the crop to the product promotion), and the restoration of the ancient wall park. Each space has its own macro and micro-directrices, tissues and temporary devices, with their specific duration and reversibility. This way we can imagine many time configurations, starting from the earlier one (Expo 2015) arriving at a future possible scenario, where the city can develope a brand-new life cycle.

urban re-cycle
The renewal strategy of Goriano Sicoli old town, struck by the 2009 sismic event, aims to relaunch agriculture and the biological production chain. The project transforms old ruined barns into a promotion, sales and tasting center of biological goods. The project also envelops the main square, that is set up to contain the weekly market and temporary events; a fortunate point of view from which enjoying the old town skyline.

student housing with LUCA MANCINELLI and ENRICA ALEXANDRA PALERMO RICCARDO RADICA
Architectural Desing | 2008 | R. Branciaroli
The campus, not far from “G. D’Annunzio” University, has a student house tower, an hypogeum sport center, an auditorium and a library surrounded by a green park. The design of the tower facade is generated by the apparent casual array of windows and lodges, expression of the inner arrangement of the apartments.

The infrastructures stratification between Po river and the city of Piacenza denied the relationship between inhabitants and the river nearby. Delocating the motorway to the north of the waterway, the old infrastructure can be re-used as the structure of the new Expo2015 pavilions. The project also focuses on the whole riverside zone as a filter between nature and builded areas, giving back the lost relationship to the citizens.

The Workshop tries to generate re-cycling visions and strategies of a land devastated by a huge environmental disaster, that has polluted the Pescara river since almost one century. A linear park, that links Bussi train station to the old city, crosses the ex- chemistry industrial center, renewed into a research center for polluted sites remediation. The linear path contains also a KM-zero market and a memorial museum that reminds how the environment has been damaged and how it can be cured.
