HEALTHY AIR PROPTECH

Air purifiers are soaring in popularity

Since the start of COVID-19, property owners and consumers have been pouring money into air quality products that offer real-time particle recognition and remediation systems, including sensors and machine learning to detect, predict and remove germs and pollutants. In fact, healthy air proptech firms can’t keep up with the demand from buyers in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. where the appeal for WiFi-enabled air monitoring and purification products is soaring.

While some products are small and sleek, and can be placed on desks and tables, larger units the size of dehumidifiers are available to handle rooms. Decentralized HVAC units (that look like air conditioners) and sensor clusters can be mounted on walls or integrated into a building’s existing HVAC system. These products can transmit their air quality data to the manufacturers, which in turn offer subscription monitoring services.

One such manufacturer is WYND, a California-based company recently named to Time Magazine’s annual best inventions list. Wynd’s technology detects, predicts and remediates air quality issues with proprietary sensors, software and analytics. Its technology can be integrated with major HVAC systems and other products offering air purification solutions.

Another new start-up is OXYGEN8, based in Vancouver. Since its recent inception, the company has installed more than two dozen of its flagship Nova ventilation systems in buildings across the United States and Canada. Oxygen8 is on the cusp of releasing six new models to accommodate building owners in seek of solutions to facilitate healthier air. Supported by studies showing that ventilation, along with well-oxygenated air, can improve cognitive function, Oxygen8 is the first investment for Greensoil PropTech Ventures Fund II, a recently launched $100 million venture capital fund investing entirely in early to mid-stage PropTech firms.
