A Thank You to Past Board Members
Andrew Békés
Andrew Békés joined the then ROMSBC board in 1999 and at that time he served in many capacities, most notably, as chair of board after the amalgamation. His leadership during this transitionary time set a new foundation for this chapter in the organization’s history. Andrew, a licensed broker, residential/strata property manager and landlord, is passionate about the industry and it shows in his dedication to our association’s wellbeing. He has also served on several boards and non-profits, including service clubs such Rotary International.
A: This one is easy, the work done to bring the regional associations throughout B.C. together to form LandlordBC.
As the chair of the committee that facilitated the merger and subsequently as board chair of the newly formed LandlordBC, it was rewarding to be see the considerable work that went into making LandlordBC the one voice of the rental housing industry in B.C.
A: LandlordBC has gained recognition locally and nationally and my hope is that that continues, and more landlords realize the immense value LandlordBC brings to their business and the industry at large to continue and grow in membership.
A: I continue to be involved in strata and residential property management. I have always been significantly involved with Rotary International and as such will become President of the Oak Bay Rotary Club later this summer.
Irene Tiampo
In the eight years that Irene has served on our board she has shown a significant commitment to our association. Having a significant knowledge of the industry in both Victoria and Vancouver, Irene has been a great asset to several of the boards committees, including the finance committee and the forms committee. An avid beekeeper, Irene has also served on the Capital Region Beekeepers Association and the BC Honey Producers Association. We wish her continued success in her many ventures.
A: The bringing together of the Vancouver and Victoria based associations to become LandlordBC. It was not an insignificant amount of work on anyone’s part and the result, LandlordBC, has proven it worthwhile. Seeing the unified association become a balanced voice for landlords that is also sensitive to the realties that tenants face is amazing, and really, necessary for the future of our industry.
A: We are in challenging times and I have confidence and hope that the association will continue to have a good relationship with the housing minister and the Residential Tenancy Branch. Being at that table is more valuable than most will understand.
A: We have a few projects on the go at Itziar and I have been able to devote more attention to these initiatives. I am also on the board of the BC Honey Producers Association and serve as their treasurer.
Richard Laurencelle
Richard is a Vancouver-based landlord and in his real life a very successful financial planner with Monarch Wealth Corporation. Richard began his involvement with the association as a BCAOMA director and was the chair of BCAOMA during the amalgamation to form LandlordBC. We appreciate his service to the organization and industry, and especially for the thoughtful and positive demeanor that he always exhibited as a director.
A: I was the chair of the BCAOMA board at the time of the merger and it was a step that made perfect sense to me. Bringing together the two similar associations to ensure we had a clearer message to all levels of government was the obvious next step for us.
A: Continue to bring on a diverse array of board members with their own unique experiences. Having different perspectives is really the only way to effectively address the concerns of our multi-faceted industry.
A: Free time? I continue to manage my financial advisory practice which is certainly a full-time job in itself. I am also adding properties to my real estate portfolio which takes a significant amount of time and effort. I am looking forward to being able to travel again once things return to normal.
