Can you make new spaces without knocking the old one down?
EX typography carabba supervision: Studio Berghella Location: Lanciano, Italy Scale: M Status: Under construction Project Year: 2017 The building is a typical example of industrial architecture, dating back to the early 20th century. The building, which has been abandoned for several years, has a fairly widespread degradation, expressed through the deterioration of the brick; the continuous infiltration of rainwater also led to a series of damage to the roof. The project therefore includes coffee restaurant with all the related functions, where new social interactions between people can born.

Can a home be tailor-made like a dress?
Villa towards the sea supervision: Studio Berghella Location: Rocca San Giovanni, Italy Scale: S Status: In progress Project Year: 2018 The private villa is located into the land and sea space, in a privileged position of an italian borough, overlooking the gulf of the Adriatic coast. It is designed on two levels, with essential lines, which together with the use of simple materials doesn’t want to overrun the context in which it is placed; the white plaster emphasizes the geometry of the volumes, modeled and excavated, obtaining loggias and sharp shapes. The villa is carefully tailored to its unique location using nature’s own colours and soft transitions between spaces, that makes the daily changes of the sea an integrated part of the architecture’s DNA.

How can you make a building work, in mimesis with the context?
CONCRETE RIBBON supervision: LĂšcio Rosato Location: Sassa, Italy Scale: L Status: Competition Project Year: 2017 A school intimately influenced by the surrounding territory, from which the agricultural fields traces are taken, a strong sign is obtained, featured by a ribbon made of concrete and wood. The new complex is gently laid in contact with the soil, and rhythmically scanned in clocks, developed on a single storey. The program is setted of each block, grouping the necessary functions and spaces of a school; tzhis allows for a clear organization of the functions, separated by age, leaving the external areas the task of gathering the students during the moments of play and free activities.

How might childrens interact, in rhythm with nature?
wooden ring supervision: Studio Berghella Location: Lurago d’Erba, Italy Scale: M Status: Competition Project Year: 2018 A kindergarten located in a rural landscape in the Italian region Lombardy. The new building was born with the aim to respond with an architectural gesture to accurate programmatic needs; a school internally persuaded by the surrounding territory, from which it wants to resume, in mimesis, the traces and the soft hilly profiles, inheriting the imprint of nature, expressed by the seasonal rhythm. It becomes a wooden ring consisting in a porous inner circle, with concentric layers in which the children are protected, busy to grow together, taken by the beating of nature.

Can a complex programmatic needs of a building, be brought togheter in one?
SHARDS supervision: DDA UNICH (Paola Misino, Valter Fabietti) Location: San Salvo, Italy Scale: L Status: Group Thesis project | 110/110 with honors Project Year: 2016 The project involves the establishment of an ‘Agricultural Technical Institute’ to favor the entry of appropriately qualified farmers in the agricultural sector and in particular the generational turnover. Three ‘shards’ are gained to satisfy the necessities of the program; the façade dialogues with the identity of the territory, through terracotta, typical of the Adriatic furnaces, rough wood and metal panels.

How can a new development relate to its surroundings?
piranesi prix de rome | via dei fori imperiali supervision: n!Studio Susanna Ferrini, DDA UNICH Location: Rome, Italy Scale: XL Status: International Call Project Year: 2016 The “two cities” - ancient and contemporary - living on separate quotes and unconnected. That is the lesson that comes from the excavations carried out in the first half of the 19th century. The project chooses to keep Via dell’Impero, though by changing the texture and the current drawing, through the enhancement of the visual axis that connects Piazza Venezia with the Colosseum, and to preserve the privileged place function for the synthetic vision of the Imperial Forums. The new road is to be considered a museum axis, that joins the Colosseum valley, by defining a system that is as homogeneous as possible.
