STUDIO PROJECT semester 1st l individual. summer 2015.

site: unspeciďŹ ed dimensions: 9m 9m 4m requirement: to design a studio cubicle with no speciďŹ c site and requirements. skills: conceptual design as a beginner, hand sketches.

Based on the informaon that no specific site and user was stated in the brief, the concept revolved around two words i.e. flexible and ever-changing design. To design a module that can be implemented anywhere for any user, according to the specific needs. The layout of the space is mainly le to the user by just providing four movable and foldable parons around a fixed central part. Thus, it becomes adjustable and interesng by being ever-changing in its layout and size.

HOW CAN A SMALL LIVING UNIT BECOME A SPACE FOR EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ?

The fixed central part of the floor plan consists of bathroom and the kitchen. Four movable and foldable paron walls guided by a system of rails that run around the central fixed part, makes the space flexible for living, dining, guest, bed, study and what not, corresponding to the needs and desires of the user whenever he wants. The module can be further modified in terms of the outer walls and materials according to the site and needs. 1 bed

SHOPPING MALL

STUDIO PROJECT semester 4th l individual. site locaon: Gurugram, India. site area: 3000 sqm maximum coverage: 36% requirements: 64 shops, 1 anchor store, 1 food court and offices. skills: design, presentaon drawings.

The site is located in a dense context surrounded by huge office buildings, with almost no open and green spaces. Based on this, the concept of the design is to provide a public space that acts as a green pocket in the otherwise dense context by fusing the social and open-space aspects of public architecture of a park and commercial aspects of a shopping mall.

CAN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS TODAY, BE SEEN AS HEALTHY PUBLIC SPACES, TO IMPROVE PEOPLE’S LIFESTYLE?

The concept is achieved by keeping the design permeable, horizontal, light-filled and open. A public park is integrated at a sunken level of -2m with perforated pavilion over it which will help blur the boundary between the experience of a closed and an open space. It allows to shop rain or shine, while enjoying fresh air and natural sunlight. The shopping mall will also serve the purpose of a relaxing public park and eang point for the office workers in their free me.

To minimise the feeling of being in a closed space, the plans are kept linear with corridors facing outwards.

URBAN CANVAS

COMPETITION

Annual NASA design competition l summer 2017 shortlisted top 24 team of 4 site: transits in Chandigarh, India. brief: to idenfy abandoned public space in the city and to execute design soluon that can revive the space as a vibrant social point. my role: research, design, presentaon, praccal execuon.

As demanded by the brief, the research to idenfy the underused or unsused urban spaces lead to the concept of brownfield sites which exist as structures, once built but have fallen into disuse due to various factors. Chandigarh, the city planned by the master is oen termed as a model of an ‘ideal city’ but like any other city, many of the transit infrastructure tumbles into misuse, abandonment and neglecon, remaining balantly as small scale second generaon brownfield sites.

CAN TRANSITS ACT AS VIBRANT SOCIAL POINTS ALL ACROSS THE CITY, THROUGH MINIMAL INTERVENTIONS ?

Transits, as spaces of flow, shape a web of diverse people and connect them all across the city, thus, holding immense potenal to be the points of dynamic interacon in their concept of being transional through minimal intervenons and creang a greater social impact.

EXPLODED VIEW PLAN

The first project was executed on a footover bridge. To revive it, narrave architecture was used to link the structure to user’s memory. The narraon of people’s thoughts was used by wring it on coloured frames that can be temporarily aatched anywhere, aiming at reaching out to the strangers by associang with their thoughts. The process of revival took place in a span of four days.

SECTION

day 1

day 2

People from different parts of the city were asked to answer a queson by wring it on the frames.

day 3

Colored re-writable frames were installed on the structure. They made an impact on people’s percepon and added a new interacve funcon to it.

day 4

The structure became a plaorm for free expression and acted as a discussion point for various events and issues in the city.

SEER CHAUPARI

COMPETITION

Louis I. Kahn Trophy l winter 2017

naonal runners up team leader team of 28

locaon: Behlba, Haryana. brief: to document an adminisrave building that reflects democracy and holds potenal to be a heritage site. my role: research, documentaon, analysis and handwork.

The trophy sponsored by UNESCO, involves analysis and physical documentaon of a site on which being cited, enters the UNESCO database as a heritage site. The relevant data is finally reproduced by hand, using pen and ink as the medium. Democracy in India came to be known only aer it became independent in 1947. But the democrac principles in India existed long before it got introduced in Athens, making it the origin of democracy and sll its physical manifestaons are unknown and less celebrated.

HOW LONG, HAS THE PRACTICE OF DEMOCRATIC ARCHITECTURE LIVED AND HOW FAR IT CAN GO IN THE FUTURE?

The concept of Chaupal (Chaupari) as a democrac space, existed in India since the Vedic period. It evolved into physical structures during 1800’s. Seer Chaupari built in 1921, is the oldest surviving one. It was an open plaorm for free expression even during the mes when the naon was under Brish control and sll connues to serve the purpose.
