O
ur history with design for senior living goes back many years. I was first asked to design a project in the suburbs of San Francisco for a client who very specifically charged the design team to create something exceptional—something that had not been seen in the industry before: an environment crafted as beautifully as a private residence, or a fine hotel. That was the Peninsula Regent, which was soon recognized for its design accomplishments and commercial success. Successive, successful projects gathered critical acclaim and notoriety for their sensitive, attractive design approach. These early successes led directly to our long relationship with Japan and Half Century More—an enlightened client who similarly challenged us to design environments to complement the desires of an aging population in Japan with grace, comfort, and sensitivity. The results have garnered international recognition for their design excellence, site appropriateness, and cultural sensitivity—all continuing goals of our studio.

Showa Kinen Koen tok yo, japan
Located on the northern edge of Tokyo's popular Showa Kinen Koen, HCM's newest Sun City Palace engages itself with the park. From the entry approach down a wooded estate drive along the park's edge, to the expansive dining room and library garden, Sun City Palace Showa Kinen Koen has been envisioned as an extension of the park.
