ACM Acoustic Engineering Ltd was formed in 1993, and was originally office based, having three staff. The business has been providing supply, design and installation of acoustic equipment specifically for the generator/stand by power market. After 23 years the company has grown and now has a factory in excess of 20,000 ft2, employing 22 staff directly, and approx. 10 sub-contractors on an almost permanent basis. The company includes clients who are major players in the generator market, who come back time after time. The quality of their product is one of the main reasons for their continued success. In recent years, their more prestigious projects include The Emirates Stadium, The Olympic Stadium, The Shard, The Cheese Grater (122 Leadenhall) and numerous banks, hospitals, data centres and financial institutions. ACM Acoustic Engineering began to experience clients requesting the ISO 9001 certificate. Chris Porter, Director, got in touch with IMSM to begin the ISO certification process. As it was a customer requirement they knew achieving ISO 9001 certification would be beneficial for the ongoing success of the business. Chris recalls the process of working closely with IMSM, “The process was easy. That said, we had previously used IMSM to gain ISO 9001:2000, which has now lapsed. However, many of the procedures were still in place which meant minimal changes to what we were already doing.” Chris said that the whole process didn’t take that long – approximately 4 months. Now ISO 9001:2015 certified they are looking forward to the future and hoping to see a smoother running production facility. For CK gas who specialise in supplying industrial and research establishments with a comprehensive range of gases, acquiring ISO 14001 was a prominent way to validate its environmental credentials. For more than 27 years, CK Gas Products has supplied industrial and research establishments with a comprehensive range of gases. These include industrial, special, high-purity and mixed gases, which the team supplies in all quantities. The company also supplies related gas-handling equipment. As Jonathan Bell from CK Gas, explained, the company wanted to demonstrate its environmental credentials – particularly within a sector that handles potentially volatile compounds. “Many of the gases we deal with, such as cyanide and chlorine, can be dangerous in the wrong hands,” he said. “So we wanted to show our customers and prospects that we care about protecting people and minimising our impact on the environment. Gaining ISO 14001 was a great way to reveal our commitment to customers and reinforce our expertise.” IMSM came recommended to CK Gas by a previous employee, “The IMSM Assessor came to us and went through everything clearly and simply. It was all straightforward and hassle-free. Best of all, the process never once distracted us from our daily tasks.” To comply with the certification, the company acquired a new fleet of efficient company cars and updated its handling of hazardous goods. CK Gas was already meeting many of the requirements. “We’ve always aimed to operate as efficiently as possible; for example, we don’t have an excess of waste. The process enhanced our operations through improving efficiency, adapting procedures and reducing energy usage.” Since becoming ISO 14001 certified, Jonathan has seen a growing interest among customers in CK Gas’s credentials. He also plans to communicate the achievement to the wider world. “It’s early days, but we’re in the process of updating our website to inform customers and prospects about gaining ISO 14001. I’m sure it will positively impact our business and perception within the industry.”
ISO 9001 helps streamline operations for UK Powder Coatings Organisation Clover Coatings was established in 2005 and has developed into one of the leading powder coaters in Bradford and the surrounding areas. Clover Coatings has achieved this by producing high quality work consistently on time and at the right price. Clover Coatings takes great pride in what they do and ensure that customer’s products are finished to the highest possible standards. This in turn has created a lot of repeat business, and has enabled them to establish long term relationships with clients. With IMSM’s support Clover Coatings has achieved ISO 9001 (A recognised standard against which to evaluate the quality management systems of a business). Jujar Singh, MD, explains his reasons for gaining ISO 9001: “We have been in the business for 9 years now and decided that by gaining ISO 9001, we could potentially have our eyes opened to new procedures, as a result this would enable for better organisation and smoother processes within the business. Furthermore we also wanted to be one of the first in the industry to achieve ISO 9001 as we feel in the future; clients may start asking for ISO qualifications.” “We were recommended to use IMSM and I believe we made the right choice as it was a very simple and easy process.” “We have only just started promoting our ISO standard but by the year end we are hoping to see new business. Potential clients may now be reassured by our quality standard. As we have already seen results within the business, we would potentially look to gaining further ISO’s in the future.
Based in the South West of England, IDN was founded August 2000 by Managing Director Cris Cadby. IDN has been providing bespoke ICT solutions for 15 years and has a truly vendor independent approach, thereby ensuring that all solutions fully meet the individual needs of all its customers. Since its inception in 2000, IDN has been providing its customers with solutions based technical expertise, and project management in networking, communications, audio visual, computing and maintenance services throughout the South West of England. The company’s reputation is built on word of mouth and is well known for its honest and customer-focused approach. IDN came to IMSM after experiencing more and more PQQ’s requiring the certification ISO 14001. Obtaining the certification meant they were able to bid on higher value contracts than previously, but also grow the business in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Cris, Group Managing Director, comments on how they are already experiencing the benefits of ISO 14001 and look forward to seeing the changes it will bring to the company in the near future: “ISO 14001 has opened up new business opportunities for us as a company but most importantly has made us more aware of the environmental impact of our business which we have been able to reduce.” IDN found the process to ISO 14001 certification a smooth and well planned process. The journey to certification from start to finish took approximately 12 weeks to complete. When asked how they found working with IMSM, Cris recalls:“Whilst there may be cheaper companies offering their services we found that using IMSM proved best value for us as a company. Obtaining certification is the simple bit; working in partnership with a trusted partner is the important bit and with IMSM we have found that.”
