I am geography unknown, Peninsula unbridged A land of wonder But I am no paradise, no idyll I am ancient and modern, Wilderness and sprawl And industry has marked me Permanently I am road and river, canal, Terrace, mountain and field And eroded chaotically Build your bridge across to me That I may join your land Mine my seams of plenty So that I may be your wealth Chart my waters, plumb my depths That I may be your harbour Build upon my precious shore So that I may be your port Plunge me, sound me Bridge me, bound me Let me take your highway From mainland to the sea For I am no island
