When it comes to meditation, people have different opinions about it. Serious practitioners have come to love the exercise for the multitude of benefits it brings to their life, body, and wellbeing. If you are seriously considering enrolling in a meditation class, then you need to know about the myths that sometimes hinder other people from doing it. For you to truly enjoy your new routine, you need to be very familiar with it. In case you hear others make strange remarks about your practice, you’ll be able to give a smart rebuttal that will shut their mouths for good. There are a lot of untruths about it, and these are often spread by people who don’t know a thing.

Myth 1: Meditation is all about chanting. The practice has already been made to fit the lives of modern people. You won’t get lost once you enroll in a class. As long as you choose which ones you take, you don’t even have to memorize chants. Styles between teachers vary. Some types start off with easy poses so you can add strength and flexibility before you are asked to execute more difficult bends and stretches. You can even practice this at work and not let others know what you’re doing. The movements are so subtle that only you will know what you’re doing. Besides, you have nothing to be ashamed of because you are working at getting your body and mind to feel better. With

the right class and teacher, the whole experience can actually be a very rewarding one.

Myth 2: You won’t be able to find a class that’s right for you. As with most forms of exercise, meditation offers a variety of exercises on its menu. Research into it and see what suits you best. As you visit fitness centers, you can talk to your teacher and ask questions that plague your mind. Private classes are also available to those who want to learn everything they need to know. Or, you can even purchase DVDs so you can do it in the comforts of your very own home.

Myth 3: The practice of meditation could go against your religion. While meditation could be a way of life, you won’t be doing anything that goes against the beliefs you grew up with. In fact, you’ll only learn how to breathe and move properly so that you are able to give your body the oxygen it needs to think properly and to stay healthy. There’s a scientific explanation behind the movements involved. And as you’ll soon learn, this could improve the quality of your life.

Myth 4: You need to be extremely flexible to be able to do well in meditation classes. Yes, you’ll be asked to stretch and bend your body in ways you can’t fathom, but that is a skill that is only learned through time and practice. When you go to class regularly, you’ll slowly acquire the skills needed to pull off those poses well. Moreover, you’ll see that your body becomes more toned if you are vigilant about keeping a schedule.
