COMPASSION Communicate effectively, promoting patient safety and ensuring professional accountability. Work collaboratively with medical and health care professional partners to prioritise patient safety and deliver harmfree care. Promote a culture of shared learning, using mortality reviews, incidents, benchmarking and positive experiences to inform our working practices. Actively listen to patients’ feedback and provide monthly ‘patient stories’ to the Board as examples of learning in wards, departments and ICSUs. Empower nurses and midwives to be strong advocates and to safeguard our patients. Encourage a culture where providing individualised care is everyone’s priority.

ACCOUNTABILITY Promote ‘making every contact count’. Provide coordinated care, support and treatment. Demonstrate that our patients and carers are regarded as partners in their care. Strive to exceed our patients’ and families’ expectations of care. Drive Quality in all care delivery. Develop and maintain a Ward Dashboard Accreditation. Develop and ensure accurate documentation and individualised care planning for all aspects of care delivery. We will improve the information we provide to patients and carers to enhance two-way communication. We will work in partnership with patients, families and carers to build a foundation for co-design and service improvement. We will improve our patients’ journey ensuring we provide integrated holistic care, from the first contact and throughout their care.

RESPECT

Create a fairer society where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Ensure we recognise the right of all patients, visitors and employees to be treated fairly and considerably in access to service and employment, irrespective of age, gender, marital status, religious belief, ethnic background, nationality, sexual orientation, disability and social status. Encourage all staff to value the possibilities in each other and explore the opportunities that difference brings. Create a climate where everyone feels empowered to raise concerns and act on them appropriately.

Ensure Equality & Diversity is central and significant to what we do

EXCELLENCE

Create a transparent, honest and open culture where learning from significant events is everyone’s business. Demonstrate strong clinical leadership and role modelling. Hold each other to account, as defined in our Trust Values. Actively listen, learn and act upon our staff surveys and exit interviews; ensure we feed back the learning. Promote coaching, mentoring and preceptorship for new graduates. Support innovation and embed a QI culture across all areas and staff grades.
