In their commitment to 100% Spanish fashion and design, for the second time, Mó and designer Alejandro Palomo have come together to create an exclusive capsule collection of sunglasses and prescription glasses that will be on sale from mid May.
MÓ & PALOMO The designer has again chosen mó to design his second capsule collection of glasses. “A beautiful romance with mó emerged from our first collaboration. Having the opportunity to create our first glasses from scratch was a dream for everyone. The launch of the first collection was a real gift, for both the mó and the Palomo teams, because we did not imagine reaching such a wide audience”, declares Alejandro Palomo. “In addition, the mó design team gives me tremendous freedom, they want to innovate with me, and they don’t hold me back at all, they always support me no matter how crazy my ideas seem”, adds the designer.

THE INSPIRATION The new PALOMÓ glasses constitute the “second part” of its first capsule and are inspired by the “Summer of Love” atmosphere of his clothing collection: freedom, the desire to live and share to put aside current concerns. “In the case of the first collection, we worked with a fine metallic structure, to create exceptionally light winter glasses that you could wear on a grey day and give more personality to your look. However, for this new capsule, we wanted to do the opposite exercise, which is what I usually do with my clothing collections. I wanted to get something denser, pasta, something very contrary to the above. The result is a capsule of cheerful, very colourful, summery glasses. “ What’s more, each pair of glasses is inspired by the personality and style of friends and people close to the designer.

COLORS & MATERIALS This new collection is essentially made up of acetate models worked of different thicknesses to recreate a robotic effect. “The crystals are all translucent so that the eyes are almost visible. I like being able to look into the eyes of the person I am talking to”, confesses Palomo. The colour range of this new collection is more classic than the previous one. It focuses on amber, green or yellow tones with crystal finishes. These are more earthy tones, reminiscent of summer, of the sand on the beach, to give more weight to the glasses. Tortoiseshell and pink, Alejandro’s favourites, were a must for this capsule. The temples have become the hallmark of PALOMÓ’s identity. For this reason, the 3 original “windows”, seen on the temples of the first collection have been brought back, to interact with shapes, transparencies and proportions. Monocolour lenses have been chosen: “We have tried to make the colour of the lenses give a different character to each pair of glasses. 4
M O D E L S The new PALOMÓ capsule collection is made up of 5 models of unisex glasses: 3 sun and 2 prescription glasses in 2 colour variations each. An element common to both collections acts as a unifying thread between all the models: the lenses fitted to all the temples of the frames, with the engraved logo of the collection, “as if they were rear-view mirrors, so you always see everything out of the corner of your eye”, describes Alejandro.

I R E N E
Irene, has been one of Palomo’s right-hand people for 4 years. It is an acetate model designed with dynamic lines that create a screen effect. It is available in two colours: a tortoiseshell finish, with translucent green lenses that contrast with the acetate; and in crystal amber with matching lenses, to accentuate the screen effect. “Irene are oversize summer glasses, fun, very sexy and with a very seventies air”, says Alejandro.

C U R R O Curro Verdugo is one of Palomo’s best friends, a fashion lover, with a sophisticated style and a fine silhouette. For this reason, the Curro model is a “tiny” version of Irene, in which the horizontal lines and the futuristic look are accentuated. It is available in one combination of tortoiseshell with a warm lens, and another, in green with matching lenses.

P E T R A “The Petra model is inspired by my friend Pedro, with whom I started the Palomo brand 5 years ago. It perfectly reflects his flamboyant personality.” Petra is the largest model, in which panoramic and dynamic lines converge, creating an original “mask effect”. Petra is available in two crystal shades: amber and green.

M A N U E L A “Manuela is my mother, a very sophisticated woman who has always worn spectacles. She is a schoolteacher and I wanted to dedicate a silhouette to her that would remind her a bit of the teachers of the 60s, but with a futuristic air”, Alejandro tells us. Manuela is one of the prescription models; it has a gentler shape and sinuous lines. The windows of the temples are circular in the two prescription models, providing more subtlety to the designs. Manuela is available in tortoiseshell and crystal amber.

“Ana is my cousin and my left-hand person and has been working by my side from the outset. She also wears spectacles, so I had to dedicate some glasses created ad-hoc for whether or no”, Alejandro declares. Ana is the second prescription model in this collection. It has a very trendy rectangular silhouette. Its front, made of thickly profiled acetate, contrasts with the circular windows on the temple. It is available in tortoiseshell and crystal pink, colour which, according to Alejandro, could not be missing from his collection.

THE CASE The case that accompanies the glasses in this new capsule collection is inspired by the shape of a jewellery box, referring to the importance of it holds. It has a removable strap so it can be carried as a bag or clutch. “We wanted to go a step further with the case. We wanted to create an accessory that could be part of the look. It is the perfect size for keeping glasses, keys, purse, mobile in and being “ready to go”, Palomo affirms. Its brown, grainy leather texture finish make it the perfect complement that completes any look.
